So, You’ve Been Wondering...
If
you’ve been receiving cards in the mail or seen these signs around Hazel Dell, you may be wondering, “What’s going on?” It’s about fearlessness. No longer do you have to wonder what the Bible is about. We are going to give you tools to chisel out how God’s truth and love is expressed through His Word and what that can do to change EVERYTHING. It’s simple: We believe U Can understand the Bible. We also know that right now at HDCC, some can, some can’t, but with coaching and assistance, ALL can understand the Bible! We want you to be unashamed of your ability to understand the Bible because we believe life is better, more fulfilling, and ultimately much more successful when we follow God’s will for our lives. “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15)
“It’s simple: We believe U Can understand the Bible.”
A great place to begin your quest to understanding God’s Word is our Wednesday Encounter program that starts on Sept. 11. Our studies will help if you want to learn how to study the Bible, if you are looking for a refresher course on the message of the entire Bible or if you are interested in taking a next step by focusing on a specific topic of the Bible. We even have studies geared toward improving your marriage or parenting skills. And every elective is built with the goal of equipping you to handle the Bible as a workman skillfully handles the tools of the trade.
“There is no reason for you to feel ashamed of your ability to understand the Bible.”
So if you are looking for a place that will help you understand and live out the lifechanging truths of the Bible, Wednesday Encounter is the place to begin. In this publication, you can learn more about the new studies that begin Sept. 11. There is no reason for you to feel ashamed of your ability to understand the Bible. Let us help you become unashamed because you know how to read, understand, and live God’s Word. Serving Him and you, David Smith, Discipleship Pastor
UNASHAMED 2013 Class Electives Letters To Strangers A Study of I & II Peter
The one who walked with Jesus throughout his entire ministry and who preached the sermon that initiated the beginning of the church sends a couple of letters to those of us who are “strangers in this world” (I Peter 1:1). In these letters he has much to say about the Christian life and the expectations that God has for us as we live it, and the encouragement to be on top of our game in this world because the Lord is certain to return.

This class will help you connect Biblical people, places, and events in a way that will help you understand the whole story. Why Encounter?
A
s people of Hazel Dell Christian Church, we’ve come together to sharpen each other, to grow together as disciples of Christ, and to grow in our individual lives. We believe this creates a community of believers who are impacted in every area of their lives, not just on Sunday mornings. Wednesday night Encounter has made that impact for people in Hamilton County. It’s a way to dive deeper, to get connected with community, and to grow in our faith and relationship with Jesus. For these reasons, we want to introduce you to some people whose lives have been impacted by Encounter. Each of us has a beautiful story to tell and these are no different. We hope you are blessed and encouraged by each of them.
Spotlight: Meet Alyssa Rogers What attracted you to Wednesday night Encounter?
“I had been participating in an Adult Bible Fellowship class on Sunday mornings. I saw all of the benefits from attending that class: building great relationships, being opened up to insightful perspectives, gaining a better understanding of God’s word, and having a sense of feeling closer to the Lord. I knew that if I felt this invigorated after being a part of the ABF class, Wednesday night Encounter could only be just as beneficial...and by golly, it has far exceeded my expectations.”
How has Encounter benefitted your life?
A
lyssa has been attending HDCC since August 2011. She is 25 years old and has been married to her best friend Brian for almost three years. Alyssa is a self proclaimed military brat who’s used to moving around the country. Ironically, she’s never ventured west of Indiana....not even on vacation. Alyssa is obsessed with Michael Jackson and claims it’s a worldwide fact!
“I love that I am given the opportunity to choose from a few studies so I can find something I’m truly interested in. I feel like there is always at least one instructor who has tapped into my life prior to setting the curriculum because there never fails to be a class that pertains to something going on in my life at that moment. As a result, I have been able to use what I’ve learned and execute it within my current situation, as well as future circumstances. Additionally, the insight from the other class members has always helped me get a better understanding of God’s Word. Being fairly new in exploring my faith and getting closer to God, I really appreciate

Would you recommend Wednesday nights to others? “Yes! Yes! YES!”
What generation of people do you think could directly benefit from Encounter?
“EVERYONE! There are people of all ages and spiritual backgounds in these classes. I think that is what makes them so beneficial. Everyone always has room to grow and can learn from someone else’s experiences...old or young!”
Do you feel Encounter is a connector between life and church?
“I definitely do! Going to Wednesday Encounter allows for a more intimate atmosphere when studying God’s Word. It also allows for those participating to relate more with the other church members that they may never meet by just attending Sunday services. Building these relationships are beneficial both inside and outside of church.”
Spotlight: Meet Claire Smart What attracted you to Wednesday night Encounter?
“We always look for things we can do together as a family. We have four kids that span 10 years. There was something offered for everyone on Wednesday nights.”
How has Encounter benefitted your life?
“Wednesday nights are a good mid-week boost for me. I can’t come too far off track in three days! There never seems to be time to fellowship on Sundays. The meal on Wednesday nights gives us that opportunity. Our kids get the opportunity to engage with others, lead classes, serve, and learn.”
C
laire Smart is married to David (pictured above) and mother of four, ages 16, 13, 10, and 6. Claire and her family have been coming to HDCC since 2010. About a month after they moved to the area, they found HDCC and have been attending ever since.
What is your favorite part of the night?
“There is a place for every age and stage. The Bible teaching from David Smith is great. We love discussing what everyone learned on the way home as well.”
Would you recommend Wednesday nights to others? “Definitely!”

Spotlight: Meet Steve McArthy “We were seeking fellowship and more involvement with the members of Hazel Dell and thought Wednesday night Encounter offered a good chance to make friends and learn valuable faith-based life lessons. We view it as an opportunity to gain knowledge and grow spiritually with others who share the same interest.”
Would you recommend nights to others?
S
teve and his wife Tina and twin sons, Kyle and Chris, have been attending HDCC since September 2010 and became members in 2011. All four members of his family accepted Christ as their Savior and were baptized in the same month! What attracted you to Wednesday night Encounter?
T
Wednesday
“An enthusiastic YES! Encounter has something to offer for all ages. It’s an opportunity to break up our work week and refocus on our faith. It’s also a great occasion to meet up with friends and other like-minded individuals for faith-based study and fellowship. Our 17-year-old twin sons have made friends and learned valuable life lessons from participating in the Wednesday night “Life Groups” for teenagers. Busy people can come directly from work. There is something for everyone.”
Spotlight: Meet Todd Hagemeier
odd Hagemeier, his wife Kristy, and their two sons have been coming to HDCC for about five years. Todd is the eighth-grade football coach at Westfield Middle School. How has Encounter benefiited your life?
“The biggest area I have benefitted from is hearing from others within the class I have been with and how they have used their faith to help others.”
What is your favorite part of the night?
“The lemonade. Just kidding...My favorite part of Wednesday nights is when I see a guy from a class I’m in and he checks up on me or I ask how he’s doing. I have also helped in the kitchen and cleaning up the tables from dinner. When I do this, I feel like I am filling a need our church has.”
