Profile:

My name is Tom Elsey and I’m a second year Graphic & Communication Design at the University of Leeds in the UK and I’m currently looking for a position within a design agency for a ‘Year in Industry’. As part of our degree, the University offers students the chance to undertake a year’s worth of employment, work experience or work placements within the fields of art, design and advertising. In order to take part in this, students must find themselves at least nine months of work, be it at one or a number of agencies and the work must be related to their course. This is obviously what I hope you can help me with. Here is what I would like to offer you in return: I’m a passionate and creative person with a real desire to learn and develop myself and my skills. I believe that I can offer a real drive and level of enthusiasm and originality to anybody, whatever the task I am entrusted with. I’m fully competent in all relevant design software, as well as being able to work by hand and I have experience of both real-world and University-set work, as well as being used to working individually and as part of a team. I hope all of this will be shown by my work, examples of which can be seen on my website ate www.headofawolf.co.uk.

Design History: Education Having studied both Fine Art and Graphic Design at high school, I began studying for my degree in Graphic & Communication Design at Leeds in September 2007. After completing nearly two years of the course, my work has moved on considerably and I have been able to add a number of pieces to my portfolio that I am very proud of. Work Experience In 2007 I undertook a two week placement at London Based digital agency Golley Slater, where I worked on putting together their portfolio amongst other projects. Personal Projects & Real Briefs Outside of University work, I have created promotional material for the Wychwood Brewery and HiFi Nightclub, the commission for which I won through a Don’t Panic! design competition. As well as this I have also submitted work for Yeah! magazine and conducted an investigation for Check-In Architecture, recording an interview in Madrid with the designers behind the Train Bombing Memorial.
