SEASON PROGRAM SPRING

You can find this program in Danish online at www.alsion.dk

Dear Audience

You really have something to look forward to! Right now, you hold a guide in your hands that will lead you directly to another six months of cultural experiences on a very high level, which we are sure you will enjoy. This year, you will again be able to see Simon Rosenbaum as host of the popular Solisterier at Café Alsion. Also Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester, the Southern Jutland Symphony Orchestra, is of course ready with a full range of distinguished concerts. For instance, you can experience a so-called Crime Concert, in which the Danish actor Torben Zeller will be visiting us as narrator, and there will be a CD recording with the popular King’s Singers. The Schaufuss Ballet will visit Alsion with their perhaps most popular performance, Satisfaction, which is based on the music and story of The Rolling Stones. You will also be able to enjoy the passionate opera Tosca, the beautiful Strauss Gala as well as a tribute to Johnny Cash. You can have fun with Danish lifestyle expert Christine Feldthaus, the notorious City Singler, which supposedly have become even cheekier, and with Danish comedian Lars Hjortshøj and his “Danish Collection”. The whole family can experience the one and only Hr. Skæg, known to most Danish children from his television progam on DR1 and Ramasjang. We can also look forward to two exceptional performances: the visit of Wulanmuqi Art Troupe from Inner Mongolia in occasion of the Chinese New Year, and nothing less than a spectacular opening concert of this year’s FolkBaltica Festival with Steffen Brandt, Eivør, Harald Haugaard, Tip Toe Bigband and more. Finally, we can look forward to “Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival” coming to Alsion this year, so you can experience the Festival Orchestra with pianist Fazil Say, who has just been appointed European Cultural Ambassador. Their visit at Alsion closes with the great NDR Sinfonieorchester with Meastro Herbert Blomstedt as conductor and Peter Zimmermann as violin soloist. So there is plenty to look forward to - and we are looking forward to seeing you! John Bøgelund Frederiksen, Head of Culture, Sønderborg Municipality

FEBRUARY Johann Strauss Gala Concert

The Symphony Orchestra Paris Theme Concert

Chinese New Year Wulanmuqi Art Troupe

Unlike any other orchestra, “K & K Philharmoniker” has cultivated the heritage of the Johann Strauss dynasty, and for the fifth time, Viktor Litvinov (Kiev State Opera) will guarantee an extremely humorous as well as beautiful and nostalgic performance of the Austrian K & K Ballet with his imaginative choreography.

7 February, 8:00 pm Already in the 1700’s, Paris was one of Europe’s music metropolises - and this concert with the Symphony Orchestra is a tribute to the city that has shown the way to great musical diversity. Therefore, all works selected for this evening have their roots in the wondrous universe of Paris. Free concert introduction at 7:00 pm.

A colourful visit of the spectacular Wulanmuqi Art Troupe on the occasion of the Chinese New Year, which we again will celebrate in Sønderborg this year. The show is a combination of music and dance from China and Inner Mongolia, where the troupe was originally formed. Since 1965, Wulanmuqi has won no less than 240 prizes and awards around the world.

FEBRUARY / MARCH

Christine Feldthaus Can you stand...

Tosca Top-Class Opera

27 February, 7:00 pm

28 February and 1 March, 7.30 pm

The Symphony Orchestra Double Concert

...the heat in the kitchen? Listen to “Miss So F *** ing Feldthaus” sharing her vision of how life might become a little bit more fun! Get a tender push from a lady who wears her hat as she pleases – and who dares to embrace everything from youth tyrants to those who believe that smokers and other “politically incorrect people” do not get to heaven.

The stage is set for some magnificent nights with Puccini’s masterpiece “Tosca” performed by The Danish National Opera and “Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkster”. Tosca captivates with its passionate music and its intensifying drama about the desire for love and power. The opera will be sung in Italian with Danish subertitles, and there will be an introduction on both nights at 6:45 pm.

8 March, 8:00 pm This concert is an unusual rendezvous of two instruments where the viola and the clarinet make magic together in Bruch’s Double Concert for Clarinet and Viola. The clarinet will be played by John Kruse, solo clarinettist of the Royal Danish Orchestra, and the strings will be played by Norwegian Lars Anders Tomter. Free concert introduction at 7:00 pm.
