SEASON PROGRAMME SPRING
Dear Audience 2012 is here, and we are ready for yet another fantastic season at Alsion Concert Hall. We are looking forward to hosting a great variety of artists, such as the world’s best chamber orchestra with the tricky name Academy of St. Martin in the Fields led by Swedish virtuoso trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger, who is also a solo player, or the highly respected St. Petersburg Radio and TV Symphony Orchestra. At the other end of the spectrum, the Danish comedy quartet “Ørkenens Sønner” will put on their juicy, saucy and perfectly musical show, and you can meet the kings of Danish stand-up, Casper and Frank. If you think only men can be funny and charming at the same time, we can highly recommend “City Singler 2”, a hilarious show with Danish actresses Trine Gadeberg, Sofie Lassen-Kahlke, Anne Louise Hassing and Kaya Brüel. With soloists like Annarita Gemmabella, Sabine Meyer and Michala Petri, “Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester”, the Southern Jutland Symphony Orchestra, is presenting great symphonic experiences again. You can also experience them in a totally different way when they perform some of the absolute classics of symphonic rock. We are also presenting the opera Don Giovanni, Strauss-Gala, “Slesviske Musikkorps” featuring Jette Torp and Erann DD, Peter Schaufuss’s modern staging of the ballet classic Swan Lake and a whole lot more. Last but not least, do not miss our traditional community singing at Café Alsion every first Saturday of the month. We are looking forward to yet another year with great experiences at Alsion Concert Hall.

VIENNESE JOHANN STRAUSS GALA CONCERT
THE MERRY WIDOW
28 February, 8:00 pm
29 February, 8:00 pm
The Middle Ages were anything but dark! In the 1200s, a range of songs in Medieval Latin and Middle High German were written down, and stored in the Benediktbeuren Monastery in Bavaria. In 1937, these cheerful, happy and sometimes frivolous texts about love, booze and eroticism were set to music by Carl Orff.
Once again, Alsion’s audience can look forward to first class interpretations of the most beautiful melodies from the Vienna of the Strauss Dynasty. K&K Ballet presents excellent Viennese music, an enchanting soprano and the traditional, if not obligatory, pieces “Donauwalzer” and “Radetzkymarsch”.
Experience Lehar’s enchanting operetta in a new staging. The rich Hanna, recently widowed, is much courted by fortune hunters. The host of a party at the embassy would like to get hold of her millions. He gets his work-shy secretary, Earl Danilo, to court to Hannah. This is how the confusion starts.

Bartók is rarely found on concert programmes in Denmark. His Piano Concerto No. 3 was his last piece, and by his death in 1945, it was not yet finished. It is light-hearted, cheerful and soft, and an enchanting memory of one of the dominant musical figures of the 20th century.
Everyone who has experienced a Danfoss Orchestra Spring Concert knows why people stand in line for hours as soon as the tickets are released. The orchestra has gradually distinguished itself as one of the region’s most popular concert orchestras. The musicians bubble with enthusiasm and make it all happen.

Experience the two comedy stars acting as themselves. Gone are costumes and fiction. Left are two people who tell a story about friendship, differences, conflicts and chasing the next joke. They are vulnerable and without distance. They surrender themselves to the audience, and they are honest, but first and foremost funny.
A tribute concert to one of the greatest musicians in the history of modern music, Paul McCartney, who will turn 70 on 18 June 2012. The concert is organised in cooperation with writer and musician Per Wium, and will feature highlights from the Beatles era, as well as a selection of great hits from Paul McCartney’s solo career.
The monumental Symphony No. 8 is the crowning of Bruckner’s life’s work and a triumph for the late-romantic symphonic structure. In this symphony, Romanticism culminates in abundant splendour and different layers of meaning. Mihkel Kütson is conducting Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester and Schleswig-Holsteinisches Sinfonieorchester.
