INSTITUTION | AHMEDABAD MONSOON | 2018 Site Location: Gomtipur shaala no. 3-4 Site Area: 2100 sq.mt Project Requirement: Learning spaces Admin area Library Activity space Play Ground Staff Room Community Open Space
The program intends to give total freedom, with logical reasoning and practical solution for the proposed built form. The AMC is looking for an alternative design for the municipal school which will be instrumental in changing the way one looks at municipal school building through variety of exploration possible to impart the spatial characteristic. The context in which the school design would be explored demands an overall understanding of local community and the users profile. 11
The concept was to give various scales of open spaces and to maintain the hierarchy of open spaces. Various volumetric intervention gives the formal character of an institution. Use of Shallow vaults give the sense of calmness versus that of conventional concrete slab. The idea of central open space allows maximum interaction and meets the demand of open space in neighbourhood.

A Nubian vault is a type of curved surface forming a vaulted structure. One of the key advantages of the Nubian vault is that it can be built without any support or shuttering. The earth bricks are laid leaning at a slight slope against the gable walls in a length-wise vault. The same principle can be used to build domes. To understand the construction technique small scale replica of 2.5m height and 2m span was constructed. (Group of 7)
