Swelling of the gums is quit a common problem, it can be caused due to many different factors like pregnancy, vitamins deficiencies, gum Infections or inflammations and gingivitis, when the gums swell they will look red and bulge out, that may cause irritation or even a painful sensation, when the gums swell they can also bleed more during brushing the teeth or flossing. You can sooth the pain and swelling by having basic oral hygiene and simple home remedies, the following are some remedies you may find helpful in reducing the swelling of the gums, however if the symptoms presist for longer than two weeks make sure you visit your dentist. 1- Gargling With Salt Water. Salt water is a good remedy to temporarily sooth the pain, bring down the swelling and inhibit the growth of the harmful bacteria that may be causing the swelling in the first place, add one tablespoon of salt to a glass of warm water and gargle with at least five times a day, keep it in your bathroom and whenever you are going there just rinse your mouth with the salt water.
2- Black Tea Bags. Black tea has properties that are able to reduce inflammation, and maintain the oral health due to its antioxidants properties, it can also sooth pain and bring down swelling , add two black tea bags in a cup of boiling water, let it steep and cool down, rinse your mouth with the solution three times a day, or simple apply a wet black tea bag to the swollen area of your gums for five minutes. 3- Clove Oil. Clove oil is common for oral issues, it has antibacterial properties that help to kill harmful bacteria that contribute to many oral problems, clove oil also has natural pain killing properties that will help you sooth the pain and feel better, take a mouthful of clove oil and shift it around your mouth for five to ten minutes then spit it out and rinse your mouth with warm water.
