Itchy skin is an annoying common problem that we may experience due to many different causes such as allergic reactions, insect bites, eczema, dry skin, sensitive skin and even can e triggered by using certain soaps and detergents. The main thing you should do when you experience itchy skin is try to resist the urge to scratch or pick up on the itchy area, because scratching can further worsen the problem by causing injuries and skin infections, below are presented some of the most effective homeremedies to help you calm down the itchiness and prevent you from scratching your skin. 1- Cold Water And Ice Applications. Your brain receive the coldness sensation by the same nerve fibers as itchiness and for that reason placing ice applications on the itchy area can sooth the itchiness almost immediately, you can either place a few ice cubes in a plastic bag and apply it directly on your itchy area or run some cold water for as long as you can. 2- Aloe Vera. Aloe Vera is a great friend for the skin, it contains vitamin E, anti-inflamatory, antifungal, antibacterial and many other components that helps relieving minor burns, inflammations, infections and itchiness. The best way is just to apply a slice of aloe vera plant directly on the affected area but if you don’t have an aloe vera plant you can use the ready gel that’s available in drugstores. 3- Oatmeal. Oatmeal is another great soother for irritated skin, it contains a lot I of antioxidant components that helps calm down itchiness and nourish the skin. Use colloidal oatmeal for best results but if you don’t have then consider using whole grain oats or


unrefined oats that you can grind yourself at your home for more benefit. Mix one cup of unrefined oats with your warm bath water and lay in there for ten minutes at least, make sure not to use hot water as it could further worsen your itchiness. mix oat flour with honey to make a paste and massage that paste on the irritated area of your skin. 4- Juniper Berries. Juniper berries are rich with many powerful anti-inflamatory compounds that help to provide an instant relief for itchy skin. – mix ground juniper berries with organic, unsalted butter and beeswax to form a soft paste, apply to your skin when ever to feel the urge to scratch it. 5- Cloves. Cloves contain eugenol which is a powerful essential oil that has an instant effect to numb the nerves endings and in result relief the itchiness, use cloves essential oil to massage the itchy area of your skin. 6- Lemon. Lemon is another home remedy you can count on to relieve itchy skin, lemon contain anesthetic, antiseptic, antibacterial and anti-irritating properties that make it very useful in calming down itchiness. – Use a cotton ball, dip it in lemon juice and wipe the irritated area with it, however be cautious not to apply lemon juice on fresh wounds, broken skin or scratches. 7- Baking Soda. Baking soda is used in a wide range to treat itchy skin, you can form a paste by mixing three parts of baking soda with one part of water and apply directly on the itchy skin or just mix one cup of baking soda with your bathing water, however never use baking soda on broken skin, fresh wounds or scratches. 8- Essential Oils. Essential oils are used in many medical conditions effectively including providing relief for itchy skin, in a spray bottle mix one table spoon of one of the essential oils that we will lost to you below with 20 ml of water, spray directly when needed.
