Know More about Your Health through Urine

..................................................................................................... You don’t have to send a urine sample to a lab to get a hint about your health. There are urine signs that can be noticed without testing. Indicators like color of urine, amount, foam and even taste “disgusting yet was used to check whether or not a person is diabetic” can all be used to conclude certain aspects about one’s health. Check out the following urine variations and their meanings: 1. Pungent Urine A strong smell of urine might be caused by taking certain medicines or eating certain foods. For instance, urinating after eating asparagus may result in a recognizable stench because of the decomposition of methyl mercaptan, a sulfur compound. However, care must be taken regarding constant ammonia-smelling urine as it might indicate a urinary tract infection. 2. Colorless Urine Having transparent urine is usually a sign of drinking too much water or taking a diuretic, a medicine that helps the body in disposing of extra water. If the former is the cause, you need to drink less water to avoid health threats.

3. A Shade of Yellow Urine with a pale straw color indicates that you drink sufficient amount of water. However, when urine tends to have a darker shade of yellow, it means that more water intake is needed. 4. Honey Colored When urine turns to an amber, yellowish-brown color, consider it a sign of lack of hydration. 5. Brownish Shade Brownish shades of urine usually indicate dehydration yet they are of concern because they may sign for kidney or liver problems. Certain foods and drugs can also turn urine brown. Foods include fava beans, rhubarb and aloe. Drugs include antimalarial ones, antibiotics and laxatives. Consult a doctor if you don’t suspect that dehydration, eating certain foods or taking certain drugs is the reason for your dehydration. 6. Reddish Shade Although a pink to red shade of urine might be caused by a non-alarming cause like food coloring, it is important to see a doctor because it might mean blood in urine. Blood in urine is alarming because it can result from urinary tract stones or infections, prostate problems or tumors.

7. Orange Eating too much carrots or drinking a lot of carrot juice can make your pee orange. Other causes include medications and supplements like vitamin C; warfarin, a blood thinner; and some laxatives and chemotherapy drugs. Orange urine may also suggest bile duct or liver problem. 8. Green or Blue Urine Such colors are quite shocking to find in the bowl but they might be just due to food colorings or medicines like indomethacin, amitriptyline and cimetidine. Green urine might be just a result of eating asparagus but it might indicate a urinary tract infection. There is a genetic disorder called familiar hypercalcemia which makes people having it to produce blue urine.
