These 5 Tips Will Help You Curb Your Sugar Cravings Exercising and working is great, but it will only be truly effective when you maintain some control over your eating habits. Usually, when people starve, they look for sugary foods that are high in carbohydrates because they stimulate the release of the feel-good brain chemical serotonin. The problem doesn’t arise when you eat sugary foods, but it does when you overeat. Though, it is difficult to avoid sugar as it’s found in most processed foods, including yogurt, breads, juices, and sauces, the following tips will help you curb your sugar cravings: •

Eat a little treat: When you have a big craving, you can have a small amount of sugary food such as a flavored rice cake or a small candy bar while sticking to a 150-calorie threshold per day. By doing this, you will not feel as though you have missed out on much.

Chew gum: You might have heard Man Vs. Wild star ‘Bear Grylls’ saying that chewing gum curbs your hunger. Well, this is true. When you chew the gum, the brain perceives as if you have eaten. It’s just about playing a trick with the brain, but it really helps.

Prefer quality over quantity: If you really want to eat sugar then go for a high quality one and keep it small. For example, go for a decadent dark chocolate truffle instead of a large candy bar, and then slowly savor every bite to feel satisfied and follow that with a large glass of water. However, again keep it to the minimum and try to replace such foods with healthier ones.

Eat in between: Eating in between your meals will make you feel less hungry for the sugary foods. For example, eat a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner and in between those meals you can eat a fruit, small salad, or some carrots and celery with peanut butter to remain satisfied all the day long and not crave for sugar.

Eat High Protein Food: High protein food such as greek yoghurt, lean turkey and spinach curb your craving for sugary foods. They release satiety hormones that satisfy your hunger and you don’t feel the need to eat more food.

While the above mentioned tips will definitely help you to stay away from sugar, you have to combine them all with your willpower as well to get positive results.
