 Outreach Support Offer 2015-16

H

eartlands Academy is a mixed 11-19 academy situated in the Nechells area of Birmingham. It has been rated three times outstanding by Ofsted and is a Teaching School. As a Teaching School, we offer high quality training and development to new and experienced staff. We have considerable experience in providing support to a number of schools, both primary and secondary, via our expert team of Lead Practitioners, Senior Leaders and our staff who lead our support services. The Academy Principal, Mrs Glynis Jones is a National Leader of Education and has wide ranging, successful involvement in supporting the leadership of schools in challenging circumstances at both primary and secondary level. Over the past year we have offered support in all aspects of teaching and learning, leadership development, ancillary services including HR and data management, and reprographics services. The majority of our outreach work is focused in the West Midlands area but we do offer support further afield should this be required. We are sponsored by E-ACT but our support is by no means exclusive to the E-ACT family of schools. All our work is agreed in partnership with you and support is targeted and recorded effectively to show outcomes and impact for both pupils and staff. Our support work is monitored throughout the year and your feedback is a key part of this process. We offer a number of courses throughout the year which are always reviewed accordingly in response to feedback from participants. A representative from the academy is always willing to visit to discuss your needs and consider how our support could best benefit your school. To make enquiries regarding outreach support please contact Vicki Till, Associate SMT Outreach on 0121 464 3931 or email V.till@heartlands-academy.org.uk.

 Mathematics Collaborative Network Our innovative teaching practices have led to the Mathematics Department becoming a recognised hub centre for the West Midlands as part of the ‘Pearson Mathematics Collaborative Networks’. This initiative was first introduced in May 2013 and now works with a number of schools and colleges throughout England. We have exceptional teachers who aim to develop students as independent and logical mathematical thinkers by introducing them to engaging questions and ideas. We feel that the department’s excellent results year on year, are a true reflection of the direct impact we have on our students’ learning. As a regional network leader, Heartlands Academy can facilitate: • the sharing of best practice • ensure teachers are kept up to date with curriculum developments • provide opportunities for teachers to discuss and create new learning strategies There have recently been significant changes to the A-Level Maths syllabus, therefore, our meetings will focus on strategies for implementing the new curriculum. We are also able to offer sets of resources created by teachers for teachers to help deliver the new GCSE Maths (9-1) specification, each focusing on a different aspect of the changes.

Secondary & Primary  LAMDA Training

Graded Examinations in the Speaking of Verse and Prose We offer the expertise of our Head of Drama, Andrew Henshaw, a trained examiner for LAMDA. Training is delivered via weekly visits to your school to prepare pupils to sit these external examinations at Heartlands Academy at three points in the academic year. It is very important that a member of staff is present at the session so that pupils undertaking the exams can be supported beyond the weekly visit.

About the qualification LAMDA graded examinations have official accreditation as part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). The graded examinations in the speaking of verse and prose can be offered to pupils aged five years and over. The aim of these examinations is to develop:
