The Photography Awards were presented to individuals with the top youth exhibitors in the Beginner; Intermediate; Advanced; Best Enlargement 5x7; Best Enlargement 8x10; Best of Huron County; Best of Special Effects and Best of Technology Photography sections at the Huron Community Fair. Best of Show photography exhibitors in the Beginner section was Jaxton Kosinski of North Huron 4-H Club; Intermediate section was Annie Bowman of Boots and Bling 4-H Club; Advanced section was Natalie Phillips of Country Fun 4-H Club; Best Enlargement 5x7 section was Dalaney Bates of Sebewaing Jets 4-H Livestock Club; the Best Enlargement 8x10 section was Morgan Klosowski of 4B’s 4-H Club; Best of Huron County section was Annie Bowman; and Best of Technology was Easton Durr of 4B’s 4-H Club.

HarJo’s Ben Franklin Store awarded a rosette to the top youth exhibitor in the Craft section at the Huron Community Fair. The Craft award went to Vivienne Wheeler of Laker 4-H Club.

4-H Clubs were invited to perform at the Huron Community Fair 4-H Club Explosion formerly known as the 4-H Talent Show, on Sunday, July 31, at the Hagen Show/Sale Barn. The evening started out with Lauren Furne of Harbor Beach 4-H Club dancing to Trolls “Can’t Stop This Feeling.” A musical skit “Jailhouse Rock” was performed by Avery Gentner, Audra, Eli, and Liam Maurer of Country Corners 4-H Club. Brooke Depcinski of 4-H PEP Spirit Riders and Challengers 4-H Club lip-synced to “When You Say Nothing at All” by Allison Krause. A musical skit “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” was performed by Avery Gentner and Audra Maurer. Country Corners 4-H Club members – Avery Gentner; Andrew and Finn Gusa; Audra, Eli, and Liam Maurer; Lily and Sophia Messing; Madyson and Mason Schumacher ended the show by performing a musical skit “Take Me Out to the Ball Game!”

Thumb Anesthesia presented a rosette to the top youth exhibitor in the Fine Arts section at the Huron Community Fair. The Fine Arts award went to Jeff Ignash of Laker 4-H Club.

The Corn Stalks award winner was to Fischer LeGault of Happy Gals & Guys 4-H Club; and the Corn Sample award winner was Grant Guza of Country Corners 4-H Club.

Thumb Anesthesia presented a rosette to the top youth exhibitor in the Cultural Arts section at the Huron Community Fair. The Cultural Arts award winner was Megan Messing of Country Corners 4-H Club Patti Errer and Family presented a rosette to the top youth exhibitor in the Decorated with Frosting section at the Huron Community Fair. The Decorated with Frosting award winner was Fiona Phillips of Country Fun 4-H Club.

The induction of the 2022-23 Huron County 4-H Ambassadors took place following the 4-H Club Explosion at the Huron Community Fair in the Hagen Show/Sale Barn. 4-H Cloverbud Ambassadors were introduced and recognized: Blake Abbott of 4B’s 4-H Club; Blane Booms of Kickin’ Dust 4-H Club; Roman Klee of 4B’s 4-H Club; Cael and Keira Puvalowski of Happy Gals & Guys 4-H Club. The honor of Intermediate 4-H Ambassador was given to Kynzie Morell of 2022 HURON COMMUNITY FAIR YOUTH AND ADULT AWARD WINNERS Growing Go-ers 4-H Club. The honor of Junior 4-H Ambassador was given to Ava Morell also of Growing Goers 4-H Club. The honor of Senior 4-H Ambassadors went to Ellexia Puvalowski of Happy Gals & Guys 4-H Club; and Dori Stuever of Boots and Bling 4-H Club. The 4-H Ambassadors will be representing 4-H at various 4-H activities and events throughout the year. Congratulations to all the youth and adult award winners, who participated and exhibited, at the 154th Huron Community Fair. This year’s Huron Community Fair youth and adults award winners are listed here: The Ceramics award winner was Wyatt Schumacher of Country Corners 4-H Club. Kari VerEllen in Loving Memory of Jean Ferriby presented a rosette to the top youth exhibitor in the Ceramics section at the Huron Community Fair. Independent Bank of Bad Axe awarded a rosette to the top youth exhibitor in the Clothing - Senior (ages 15-19) section at the Huron Community Fair. The Senior Clothing award winner was Audrey McNabb of the Laker FFA Chapter. The Huron Community Fair Board and the Huron County Corn Growers Association awarded rosettes to the top youth exhibitors in the Corn sections at the Huron Community Fair.

Don & Donna Wheeler awarded a rosette & plaque to the top youth exhibitor in the Recycling section at the Huron Community Fair. The Recycling award went to Carter Kosinski of North Huron FFA Chapter.

The Huron County Master Gardeners presented rosettes and cash awards to the top youth exhibitors in the following sections: Home Garden, Flower Garden, Flower Arrangement, and Indoor/Outdoor Plants at the Huron Community Fair. Home Gardening was awarded to Carter Kosinski; the Flower Garden award went to Parker Ritchey of Superheroes in Training 4-H Club; Flower Arrangement was awarded to Megan Messing; and Indoor/Outdoor Plants award went to Stephanie VerEllen. A huge THANK YOU goes out to GreenStone Farm Credit Services for giving youth an extra premium for their Honor Roll projects; Corteva AgriSciences of Harbor Beach for their monetary contribution to youth who exhibited still projects in the 4-H/FFA Building which included: Field Crops; Horticulture; Food & Nutrition; Clothing; Arts and Crafts; Woodworking; Special Education Exhibits; etc.; Huron Community Fair Board for everything they do for the youth of Huron County; and Robert Clancy Contracting; David & Lori Bean – Michigan Kenworth; Kustom Truck & Trailer, Inc.; AIS Contractor’s Equipment & Supplies; Leslie Tire Service, Inc.; and Michael & Rhonda Johnson – Michigan CAT for the generous donations raised from sponsors in the Red Neck Truck Race for the Huron County 4-H Program. For the Adult Open Class Division of the Huron Community Fair, a rosette & plaque are awarded to the top two adult exhibitors in the Adult Craft section. This year, the 1st place (plaque) award went to Kari VerEllen; and 2nd place (rosettes) awards went to Darcy Lipskey and Peggy Lloyd. The 1st place plaque is sponsored by Linda Schumacher. A rosette & plaque was also awarded to the top adult exhibitor in the Adult Yarn & Miscellaneous section at the Huron Community Fair. This year, the 1st place (plaque) award went to Sheila Grifka. The 1st place plaque is sponsored by Don & Donna Wheeler.

PROSPECT FEEDERS - The Grand Champion Prospect Feeder was awarded to Lindsey Learman; and the Reserve Champion Prospect Feeder went to Collin Depcinski of Lucky Livestock 4-H Club. The Grand Champion Prospect Dairy Feeder was awarded to Elliott Siemen of Harbor Beach FFA Chapter; and the Reserve Champion Prospect Dairy Feeder went to Grace Trost of Country Kids 4-H Club.The Senior Champion Prospect Feeder Showperson was awarded to Lindsey Learman; Intermediate Champion Prospect Feeder Showperson went to Riley Siemen of Harbor Beach FFA Chapter; Junior Champion Prospect Feeder Showperson trophy was awarded to Keltie Deer of Happy Gals & Guys 4-H Club; Beginner Champion Prospect Feeder

SWINE - The Grand Champion Market Gilt winner was Dalton Geiger of 4B’s 4-H Club; and the Reserve Champion Market Gilt went to Dalaney Bates. The Grand Champion Barrow winner was Dalaney Bates; and the Reserve Champion Barrow went to Dalton Geiger. The Grand Champion Swine Showperson was awarded to Dalton Geiger and the Reserve Champion Swine went to Dalaney Bates.

HORSES - The Grand Champion Horse Showmanship trophy went to Stephanie Stone of Broken Arrow 4-H Club; and the Reserve Champion Horse Showmanship trophy went to Audra Maurer. The Grand Champion English Equitation trophy was awarded to Audra Maurer; and the Reserve Champion English Equitation trophy went to Stephanie Stone. The Grand Champion English Pleasure trophy was awarded to Audra Maurer; and the Reserve Champion English Pleasure trophy went to Stephanie Stone. The Grand Champion Western Equitation trophy was awarded to Audra Maurer; and the Reserve Champion Western Equitation trophy went to Stephanie Stone. The Grand Champion Western Pleasure trophy was awarded to Avery Gentner; and the Reserve Champion Western Pleasure trophy went to Stephanie Stone.

The Huron Community Fair Board and Michigan Sugar Company awarded a rosette to the top youth exhibitor in the Sugar Beet section at the Huron Community Fair. The Sugar Beet award went to Landon Volmering of Kickin’ Dust 4-H Club. The Huron Community Fair Board and Star of the West Milling Company awarded rosettes to the top youth exhibitor in the Wheat section at the Huron Community Fair. The Sheaf of Wheat award winner was to Elianah Shupe of Country Kids 4-H Club. Hessling Construction, LLC, awarded rosettes to the top youth exhibitors in the Woodworking Apprentice (ages 8-11), Handyperson (ages 12-14) and Craftsperson (ages 15-19) sections at the Huron Community Fair. The Apprentice was awarded to Carter Plester of Happy Gals & Guys 4-H Club; Handyperson went to Abbygail Plester also of Happy Gals & Guys 4-H Club; and Craftsperson was awarded to Krista Geiger of 4B’s 4-H Club.

SHEEP -The Grand Champion Market Lamb was awarded to Seth Schumacher of Animal Kingdom 4-H Club; and the Reserve Champion Market Lamb went to Olivia Wolschlager of Happy Gals & Guys 4-H Club. The Grand Champion Pen of Market Lambs was awarded to Seth Schumacher; and the Reserve Champion Pen of Market Lambs went to Olivia Wolschlager. The Senior Champion Sheep Showperson was Seth Schumacher; Intermediate Champion Sheep Showperson went to Ellexia Puvalowski; Junior Champion Sheep Showperson was Elle Armbruster of the Laker FFA Chapter; Beginner Champion Sheep Showperson went to Olivia Wolschlager; and the Novice Champion Sheep Showperson was Leah Irion of Laker FFA Chapter. The Grand Champion Sheep Showperson was Seth Schumacher; and the Reserve Champion Sheep Showperson went to Madelyn Laskowski.

DAIRY - The Grand Champion and Reserve Champion of Dairy Show trophies were awarded to Gretchyn Gentner of Sew-N-Hoe 4-H Club. The Senior Showperson trophy for ages 16 & over was awarded to Leah Irion; the Junior Showperson trophy for ages 10-12 went to Gretchyn Gentner; First-Year Dairy Showperson trophy for ages 13 & over was awarded to Ellie Stafford of Laker 4-H Club; First-Year Dairy Showperson trophy/halter for ages 8-12 went to Rylee Rawlings of Ivanhoe Crop Hoppers 4-H Club. The Grand Champion Dairy Showperson trophy was awarded to Leah Irion; and Reserve Champion Dairy Showperson rosette went to Gretchyn Gentner.

Linda Schumacher presented a rosette to the top youth exhibitor in the Scrapbooking section at the Huron Community Fair. The Scrapbooking award went to Audra Maurer of Country Corners 4-H Club.

Patti Errer and Family presented a rosette to the top youth exhibitor in the Special Education 4-H Craft section at the Huron Community Fair. The Special Education award winner was Stephanie VerEllen of Harbor Beach 4-H Club.

Thumb Anesthesia presented a rosette to the top youth exhibitor in the Miscellaneous Yarn & Thread section at the Huron Community Fair. This award went to Lindsey Learman of Happy Gals & Guys 4-H Club.

JLA SWEEPSTAKES CONTEST - The Junior Livestock Association Sweepstakes Contest consists of the top eligible showperson from each of the following projects: dairy, feeder steer, horse, market steer, sheep, and swine. The representatives from each project were as follows: Dairy Leah Irion; Prospect Feeder – Lindsey Learman; Horse – Stephanie Stone; Market Steer – Alivia Bischer; Sheep – Madelyn Laskowski; and Swine – Dalton Geiger. The Junior Livestock Association Sweepstakes Showmanship Contest winner was Stephanie Stone.

BEEF BREEDING STOCK - The Grand Champion Overall Individual Animal was awarded to Dalaney Bates; and Reserve Champion Overall Individual Animal went to Amy Zurek of 4B’s 4-H Club. The 1st Place Winner of the Heifer Class Under 1-Year was awarded to Amy Zurek; the 2nd Place Winner of the Heifer Class Under 1-Year award went to Madelyn Laskowski; and the 3rd Place Winner of the Heifer Class Under 1-Year award was awarded to Morgan Klosowski. The 1st Place Winner of the Heifer Class Over 1-Year was awarded to Dalaney Bates. The Senior Champion Showperson was awarded to Dalaney Bates. The Junior Champion Showperson award went to Khloe Krohn of Happy Gals & Guys 4-H Club. The Grand Champion Heifer Showperson was awarded to Dalaney Bates; and the Reserve Champion Heifer Showperson award went to Madelyn Laskowski.

In the light of the setting sun, the Huron Community Fair was filled with revving en gines on Tuesday, August 2. The KOI drag race started with student races on small dirt bikes and ATVs. Then, the adults came up to the starting line in bigger dirt bikes and trucks that blew by with a mix of black exhaust and flying dust. Spectators, friends and family from all over the county, cheered on their favored racers.

With the storm going on for most of the afternoon, a handful of people inquired on the post with the fair reassuring that the event would still happen. The rain had let up around an hour before the first race took place.

With the weather hindering the midway activities for most of the day the weather cleared up enough for the Huron Community Fair to still hold it’s grandstand event. At 3:30 p.m. the Huron Community Fair Facebook page posted that the event would still run rain or shine with lighting being the deciding factor if they would cancel.

The rodeo had bull riding, cowgirl barrel rac es and then the participants invited children from the community to take part in mutton busting to see how long they could hold onto lambs as they run around.

Fair continues with rodeo and more The Huron Community Fair ended Thursday night with the Super Kicker Rodeo. With the midway closed for most of Wednes day due the the weather, Thursday had the sun out for the community to enjoy fair rides, bingo, livestock and the grandstand event in the Super Kicker Rodeo.

The Huron Community Fair finished out the week on Saturday Aug. 6, with the TTPA Tractor Pull brining members all over the Thumb to pull thousands of pounds across the grandstand in one of organizations many events this season. The Huron Community Fair ran all week and finished the summer season with rides, food, livestock and events for the whole community.
