Are You Cut Out To Be A Freelancer?
Freelancing definitely has its perks. It allows you to earn a living by using your unique skill set while providing you with ample control over your worklife balance. However, it also comes with a number of challenges, and not everyone is suited for it. To make it as a freelancer, it’s important to have the following: • Discipline. Freelancers need to have the ability to stay motivated and on task without prescribed schedules or superiors hounding them for deliverables. In most cases, they also need to have the ability to work alone. • Multiple skills. As a freelancer, you may need to take on tasks outside those associated with the service you offer. It’s not uncommon for a freelancer to also become their own bookkeeper, marketer,
advertiser, networker and manager. Make sure you have the ability to oversee every aspect of your business that will be under your control. • Savings. Working as a freelancer tends to involve a degree of financial risk. Moreover, it can take some time before a new business starts to turn a profit. It’s therefore important that you have financial cushioning in place while getting your operation off the ground. • A client base. It’s a good idea to have a few solid clients lined up before permanently setting up shop. To get established, many freelancers start by offering their service while working a full-time job. When their side business picks up, they transition to making it their primary source of income. Finally, before you quit your day job, make sure
you’ve written out a detailed business plan. It should include a marketing strategy, a pricing system, financial projections and a full market analysis.
3 SIGNS YOU ACED THE INTERVIEW Following a job interview, it’s natural to reflect on how it went. Although you can never know for sure whether you’ve landed or been short-listed for the job, here are three signs that indicate things went well. 1. THE INTERVIEW RAN LONG If the interview went over the scheduled running time, it’s usually a positive sign. Extending the interview means that the employer wanted to learn more about you and didn’t mind sacrificing his or her time to do so. 2. THEY TRIED TO SELL YOU THE JOB Interviewers will almost always tell you what the job entails. However, if they list the perks of the
210 CGB Drive Naples, IL. 62665 217-441-8006
position and highlight how it would be a good fit for you, you can assume that you stood out. 3. YOU WERE INTRODUCED TO STAFF MEMBERS If the interviewer took the time to show you around the office and introduced you to some of the staff, it may be a sign that they want you to join the team. It’s true that tours are sometimes routine, but you can usually get a feel for whether it seems like a formality or a meet and greet. It can be useful, as well as instructive, to assess how an interview went. However, try to avoid the impulse to over-analyze the experience as this will likely cause needless stress. After all, the matter is now out of your hands.

Tips For Turning Your Hobby Into A Career
Are you planning to turn your part-time hobby into your full-time job? Taking this step can be both challenging and exciting. Here are some tips to help you get your new business off the ground. • Make a plan. It’s a good idea to begin your new venture by writing out a business plan. This will help hone your vision for the company and give you a clear idea of how to proceed. • Build a network. Con-
nect with potential customers and people in your industry. The internet is a useful tool for networking, and social media platforms can be used to spread the word about your business. • Innovate. Even if everything is running smoothly, you should never stop innovating and making improvements, whether it’s to your product, your marketing strategy or your company structure.
• Persist, but also pivot. Starting a business requires drive and commitment. Persevering is important, but you also need to know when to change course. The ability to adopt a new business strategy when necessary is one of the most important qualities an entrepreneur can have. Finally, make sure to seek out and listen to feedback. Don’t expect to get everything right from the get-go or to spot every problem yourself.
3 Kinds of Questions to Avoid Asking in a Job Interview
When your job interview wraps up, you’ll likely be asked if you have any questions. While it’s a good idea to inquire about the position, here are three things you should avoid asking the employer about.
1. OPPORTUNITIES FOR ADVANCEMENT Inquiring about opportunities for upward mobility or the time frame for a promotion during the interview is likely to make a bad impression. Besides, you can’t expect your prospective employer to know your abilities, and therefore your chances for earning a promotion, until you’ve actually demonstrated them through job performance. 2. PAY, BENEFITS OR TIME OFF You should absolutely discuss salary, benefits Join our team and make a difference! and vacation time with your prospective employer. However, you shouldn’t do so until you’ve actually been offered the position. Otherwise, you’ll come off as presumptuous. Of course, if the employer broaches these subjects, it’s a different matter. That said, if you don’t want to waste time interviewing for jobs that can’t meet your salary demands, you can and should state your expectations in your cover letter.
cases asking about what the company does looks bad. Always attend interviews armed with as much information about the position as possible. By avoiding asking these kinds of questions, you’ll improve your chances of landing the job.
3. THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW THE ANSWER TO Never ask a question that you could have found the answer to with a simple internet search. This can cause you to come across as lazy, unprepared or unserious about the job. 4 Tips For Becoming A Star Employee
Being a first-class employee earns you praise, promotions and raises. Here are four things you can do to stand out at work. 1. Take initiative. When you take steps to contribute to the success of your company, you set yourself apart from your peers. Put forward ideas and seek out challenges. Bring solutions instead of problems to your boss and see if you can take work off his or her plate. 2. Keep learning. Take a keen interest in your professional development and look for opportunities to acquire new knowledge and skills. This could be through classes, training courses, workshops or conferences. Also, be eager to learn from your co-workers, especially those with more experience
than you. 3. Seek feedback. Take criticism about your work gracefully and proactively seek out feedback on your performance. Constructive criticism can enhance your performance by showing you where you have room to improve. 4. Build relationships. Having good relationships with your co-workers facilitates collaboration, creates networking opportunities and helps you feel more happy and secure in your job. Remember that professionalism is important too. Treat all your co-workers with courtesy, respect and kindness. Finally, always make sure to do your best work. By adding value to the company, you’ll make yourself invaluable.
