The charity’s mission is to raise funds to help improve the experience of patients, their families, visitors and staff at Kettering General Hospital and its peripheral sites by enhancing patient care and facilities.

Kettering General Hospital has been proudly serving its community for over 150 years. Like all hospitals, it aims to provide an outstanding service which surpasses all expectations – this is where the charity can help!

It exists to provide those extras that are over and above what is provided by the NHS. Through the KGH Charity Fund we raise important income to support exceptional care and strive to deliver a truly enhanced service.

Through generous donations we can fund:

• Medical equipment • Creature comforts • Environmental improvements & enhanced facilities • Research • Staff training and development

Our mission is to see an improvement in the health and wellbeing of the community through the services provided by Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

We want to continue making a positive difference to our hospital, which ultimately benefits patients now and in the future, but we need your support to do this.

While many things have changed over the years, the kindness of our community has not.

We are so incredibly grateful of every donation received (no matter how big or small).

Thank you.

The Importance of Hospital Radio

Alot of people might question the relevance of hospital radio when it comes to keeping us entertained but the truth is that other than the visiting hours, the hospital can be a very disorienting and a lonely place for people.

Whatever category you are in a hospital environment whether a staff member, patient, volunteer or visitor there is a probability of becoming bored at a certain time throughout the day.

Although in this technological era almost everyone has access to digital devices that are incorporated with a variety of choices like music, films, games and social networks.

Now you could argue that the patient can simply keep themselves entertained with their digital devices, as the hospital has free WIFI.

However, with these devices, there is no human interaction; meaning loneliness and boredom can creep in, that is where hospital radio comes in.

According to the report analysis shown by the Hospital Broadcasting Association, “21% of stations have evidence that they make the patient feel like an individual’’.

Sean Dunderdale, media manager for the Hospital Broadcasting Association, also

According to the report analysis shown by the Hospital Broadcasting Association, “21% of stations have evidence that they make the patient feel like an individual’’.

affirms that hospital radio is still relevant and provides something that is missing in commercial radio.

He said: “It is the essence of what radio is about, “It is the essence of what radio is about, being a public service, offering a more being a public service, offering a more personal connection with listeners. For personal connection with listeners. For people who are in the hospital on their own people who are in the hospital on their with no visitors, the radio is like a friend.” own with no visitors, the radio is like a Therefore, Hospital radio is about engaging friend.” Therefore, Hospital Radio is with you, the patients. about engaging with you, the patients.

What makes Hospital Radio unique then?

Well, from the perspective of a volunteer, I would say the most distinct thing about KGH Hospital Radio is that it is more than just a means of entertainment. It is more about interacting with the patients and staff.

Building one to one relationships with the listeners and concentrating on their personality by letting the patients request their choices of songs makes a positive impact on their wellbeing. Just chatting with the volunteers can help the patients get their minds off their pains and aches which can help improve their physical and mental wellbeing. So, without any hesitation, why not request your favourite song now? You can listen to KGH 24 hours a day, 7-days a week and feel more connected. By, Temenu Franca
