Shorts made by talented high school students from around the world will compete for category prizes in the categories of Narrative, Documentary and Animated ($500 cash prize each). These category winners will then compete for the $2,000 Summer White Lynch Memorial Award. Tickets for this program are FREE!
HOW CAN I HELP?
Connect us to a teacher or school that might like to get involved! Email boxoffice@heartlandfilm.org for more information!
Show your support for the next generation of filmmakers by attending the FREE High School Film Competition Program screening on Saturday, July 23, at Newfields!
THE HIGH SCHOOL FILM COMPETITION
When she received the news that there was nothing left to do but wait to die, it inspired a Random Act of Kindness that became a movement over social media which spanned over local communities, states and overseas.
SUMMER WHITE LYNCH MEMORIAL AWARD
High School Film Competition shorts compete for the $2,000 Summer White Lynch Memorial Award, underwritten by Gary D. & Marlene Cohen.
Summer White Lynch lost her battle to triple negative breast cancer in June 2014.
A RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS
Gary D. and Marlene Cohen wanted to give back by bringing her spirit to the Heartland Film award, both to honor her and to encourage others to be inspired to do something kind for a random stranger.
THE JENNI BEREBITSKY LEGACY AWARD
The Jenni Berebitsky Legacy Award honors longtime Heartland Film friend, Jenni Berebitsky, who was diagnosed with Lou Gehrigʼs disease in March 2009 and passed away in August 2019.
The documentary short film “Grateful: The Jenni Berebitsky Story,” which centers around her life, won, among other tributes, the Audience Choice Award at the inaugural Indy Shorts International Film Festival.
Regarding the award, Jenni remarked, “It is no easy task to create a piece of art that is both meaningful and entertaining. I am honored to play a role, alongside Heartland Film, in this award that encourages filmmakers to follow a dream and inspire audiences around the world.”
