HWI JAN/FEB ISSUE

8-15 EDITORS' LETTER Happy New Year! Here at HWI we are excited to share some updates we’ve made as we strive to continue to create the best wedding resource for you, our readers. We're starting off the year with a larger issue brimming with more inspiration and impactful vendors. We've partnered with The Des Moines Wedding Show and this issue serves as a program and planner for the event. (Just flip!) Here’s what else you can look forward to in this month’s issue: Have you seen the newest venue in central Iowa?! Emerald Hills is surrounded by lush trees, views of the soothing lake and native prairie grounds. (35 acres to be exact!) Harper Hadley Events put together a stunning romantic editorial lookbook with A-list professionals that will have you swooning over this space. (pp. 8 – 15) Is it just us, or do you find yourself daydreaming of a pristine beach and a hot sun as our Heartland weather turns cold? You too?! Then you will enjoy our first destination wedding feature in this issue. See how local vendors pull off a wedding in the Bahamas that will have you wondering if you should just pack your bags and go! (pp. 23 – 27) Our ‘It’s My Big Day’ feature is located on private property that has the atmosphere we dream about, woods, tall prairie grass, barns, and wild horses! Kara Vorwald captures this couple in their natural element perfectly. Did you see the cover?! C’mon! (pp. 31 – 35) We would love to see your wedding, so don't forget to submit to It's My Big Day, find it on our website under “Contact Us”. We can't wait to share your beautiful day!

It may be winter outside, but with these bright colors and natural light, you can create a warm intimate feel reminiscent of dining al fresco in the summer breeze. DESIGN TIP:

Repeat similar elements to keep a consistent look, like using a large floral wreath on the wall and mini ones for your guests.

The BIGGER the better when it comes to floral wreaths.

HEATHER + RYAN FAMILY PROPERTY

OUR WOODL AND WEDDING VOWS

As Ryan drove Heather to dinner with his parents, he decided this was it – this was the day he was going to propose. After the couple parked, Ryan went to the trunk and took out a journal he had started mere months into their relationship. It was full of love notes and reasons why he fell in love with her. The final reason he wrote was, “Because you said ‘yes’.” As he read those words, he got down on one knee, gently revealed a beautiful ring and asked her to marry him. Memories instantly flooded back to the couple. It was the perfect moment, which ended with Heather saying “YES!”

32

HEART LANDWEDDINGIDEAS.COM

Ryan and Heather knew they wanted their day to be true to their relationship with family and friends surrounding them. A small wedding with an earthy, slightly bohemian style felt right. To make it more personal the couple created a lot of things themselves. The most meaningful touch, however, was Heather’s ring. The diamond came from her grandmother’s ring, and before that,

Heather loved planning the music. She pictured each part of the ceremony and what music would accompany it best. Ryan loved building things for the day, like the benches for the ceremony. Knowing they would keep those benches as a memory of their special day made his hard work even more meaningful.
