Fall is finally here and we are
FIND COLORS FROM LIGHT TO BRIGHT
definitely ready for jeans, flannel,

tones? In this issue of HWI you will find a feature on color palettes for the season, but really they are so
wonderful they can be used throughout the year. With Pinterest and Social Media it is so hard to narrow down the tone you want to set for your wedding. Here we have borrowed fabulous weddings from local photographers to bring you some of the hottest color palettes of the season and year, and how they can be incorporated into your wedding day. We know here at Heartland Wedding Ideas you are already overwhelmed with the planning process and sometimes picking colors that pair well with each other is challenging. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with many different options. Our new obsessions are located on page 19. You know how obsessed we are with Flowers Crowns, but now there is a new head piece that has taken the front seat. Also, we give you an option for a new workout friendly wedding band, as well as an alternative way to celebrate with your bridesmaids other than the typical shower or bachelorette party. As always, we are featuring three weddings in
“It’s My Big Day”. Make sure to read all the stories, see how the grooms proposed, and the brides biggest piece of advice to ALL you future Mrs. out there. We are so excited about this issue of Heartland Wedding Ideas and as always visit our website for links to wonderful vendors in the industry, as well as, inspiration from our previous issues. You can also shop our custom Tee’s at heartlandweddingideas.com. Cheers to happy planning and of course a happy life!

Just because your dresses are garnette, doesn't mean your roses should be too. We love seeing this bright sassy red to add some spark to a maids bouquet.
Photos // Everlasting Love
We start to see jewel tones as the weather cools and people want to feel warm, cozy and FABULOUS. Jewel tones are trending away from cool tones like teal into warm reds and deep purples. In this palette, the main color is a beautiful garnette, offset with very light creams, even a touch of brighter pink here and there. Just because you picked your ONE favorite color doesn't mean you can't accent it with tones of that color. It keeps a single color from looking like too much.

Things your parents used at their wedding is back, like printed napkins or matchbooks. So many cute designs, it's fun to make it part of your day.

You've found some great colors, but what goes with what? Should it be a main color or an accent color? Can it be use it in the bridesmaid dresses or just a part of their bouquet? Do I match everything?!?! There are so many ways to marry up (no pun intended) great color combos, you may be surprised when and where these brides used their wedding palette.

WED DI NG COLOR PALETTES It's hard to imagine, but adding one color vs. another can totally change the color palette. Adding a bright pop of yellow can take these colors to the playful side, where adding a few muted neutrals make the navy the subtle but sophisticated hero. Either way we adore them.

When using florals in your wedding design, sometimes it's hard to decide if green is another color or not. Good news! It can go either way. Green always brings in a natural, neutral tone, but you can easily elevate by using more greenery or bright vibrant leaves.

The shade of color can make a difference for sure, but that doesn't mean you can't use more than one bright color in your wedding. If you use your punches sparingly, they really shine. Why not mix things up and give each bridesmaid a different and gorgeous color dress. It makes each girl unique in her own way. Here it's all tied together with the navy and blush, two neutral-ish colors that offset the vibrancy of the yellows and reds.

WED DI NG COLOR PALETTES We were surprised and delighted when we found this wedding. The main color being a lovely shade of lavender, but then the bride brings in unexpected pops of blush, salmon and coral that look amazing together! It's so great seeing palettes that try something new and different. This combo turned out stunning.

JAMI + ALEX
Jami never imagined the night she was out celebrating her 21st birthday that she’d meet the love of her life Alex. Looking back on the night it was definitely fate, as he was actually there with her cousin Amanda and her husband, but she didn’t know at the time that the cute boy who gave her a smile as she walked in would be the love of her life. Alex proposed to Jami at a family get together, because he knew how important family was to Jami. Instead of pushing her in the pool like she thought he was going to do, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. 28
HEART LANDWEDDINGIDEAS.COM
The inspiration for their wedding theme came from great love stories. Jami has always been obsessed (we can relate), so she decided to tell the love story of her and Alex through these details in their wedding. She collected books to use as her centerpieces. Every book had something to do with love or weddings. And she paired each collection of books with a framed quote from a well-known love story. When Jami was choosing her vendors she went with her “gut-feeling.” She said that every single vendor she chose went above and beyond for her and her special day. Her photographers, The Wedding Format, even hand built a wooden swing for her engagement pictures. Jami’s favorite part of the planning process was trying to come up with ideas that would shock their guests and make them feel welcome. She wanted them to feel like the day not only celebrated her and Alex’s love story, but the part everyone had played in it. By planning this way, her favorite part of her wedding day was how personal the wedding was to both of them. They made

sure that every detail was theirs, down to the signs that were made from pictures of them, pointing their family and friends in the right direction. The couple placed personalized thank you notes at every guests spot at the reception. They handed out shots of fireball on the dance floor, because Alex and his friends call themselves the Southside Snakes and that's their drink of choice. Jami says it best when she talks about her wedding, “We didn’t box ourselves in with wedding rules. Our ceremony was relaxed yet classy … and it was 100% us.”

MEGAN + WADE Megan met the man of her dreams, Wade, over Thanksgiving break when she was hanging out with his sister. They spent the evening chatting and after jokingly inviting him to lunch the next day, he actually showed up and the rest is history. Wade proposed to Megan after a whole day of activities he had planned. After all of the that, the couple decided to go home and get ready for dinner. When she came out all of the cards that Megan had sent Wade in college during their long distance relationship were on the counter. She couldn’t believe he had kept them all! He asked her to read through them and then meet him in the backyard, where he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife.
r u o y re u t p ! a e c d i r city p
Megan and Wade used Pinterest like a lot of couples do to help plan their wedding. Megan chose her bridesmaid dresses first and then designed the flowers and decor around the purple she had chosen. She loved the pop of gold she had seen all over Pinterest, so she decided to incorporate that as well. Megan’s favorite part of her wedding was choosing her vendors and planning the “big-picture” of their day. She read reviews online and stalked each vendor’s Facebook page to make her selections on which ones would help her pull off the celebration. She wanted to make sure that she trusted all of them, so she wouldn’t have a single thing to worry about on her big day.

HEART LANDWEDDINGIDEAS.COM
Although, it was hard to choose her favorite moments of the wedding she said that the couple had such an amazing time dancing and spending time with their guests at the reception. They loved seeing all of the people they both love so much gathered into one room. The most intimate and special moment to Megan and Wade was their ceremony, because that's what the day is all about. Megan’s biggest piece of advice to brides and grooms planning a wedding, “It’s no joke when people say the entire day flies by. I wish Wade and I would have discussed how we were going to handle the reception. We both wanted to talk to everyone, but hardly spent much time with each other. It was the best day of our lives, but it was a total whirlwind.” The couple was very thankful they had a videographer to help them remember all of the small moments.

ALEXIS + ALEX
heart ckline! e that n
Alex and Alexis were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend and although it took Alex two weeks to call, they have been inseparable ever since. When Alex decided to propose to Alexis, he decided to incorporate part of a trip they had taken to South Korea a few years ago. South Korea has “love lock trees” where people in love place padlocks, similar to the “love lock bridge” in Paris, to show their love for each other. You are suppose to throw the key away when it’s locked to forever symbolize your love. But the couple had other plans. They took the key back to Des Moines with them and two years later Alex took Alexis to the Court Avenue Bridge, where they threw the key off together, right here in Des Moines. As soon as that happened Alex got down on one knee and forever locked in his relationship with Alexis. 32

few of her and Alex’s favorite things. They had grilled cheese stations, an ice cream truck and of course their dog Bentley all a part of their wedding. She chose her vendors through word of mouth, with the cake tasting being her favorite part of the planning process. During the wedding her favorite moment of the day, although there are so many to choose from, was the first look. It was the only time that day, they got to spend just the two of them and of course the photographer caught the special moment. Alexis’ biggest piece of advice when it comes to planning your big day is, “Just breathe. If something doesn’t go as planned no one will notice. Enjoy every moment, because it does go by in the blink of an eye. This is the only time in your life where
