When Josh started to think about proposing to Jessica, he went back to their first date at Centro in downtown Des Moines. With the sculpture park close by, he knew this would be a great location to propose. And to make it even more special, he arranged for their families to secretly witness it all, along with a photographer. After they finished dinner, Josh held Jessica’s hand as they walked across the grass to the park, where he proposed. She was completely surprised, and as their families came up to congratulate them, it truly made it one of their most special memories together. HEART LANDWEDDINGIDEAS.COM

As the couple started planning their big day, they knew they wanted it to be classic and simple. They wanted to incorporate black but didn’t want it to be overpowering. Jessica had an idea to have all white bridesmaids dresses to break up the black. She researched and researched, was she crazy for wanting white bridesmaids dresses with her white gown?!? We’re so glad she said “YES”! While color is back in fashion so is NO color. Going completely white, black, or somewhere in between, has been trending over the past year. And it really is classic in any season. As they started to work with their photographer Alyssa Leicht and planner, Anthony Marinaro of Out of Box Productions, both were able to help them find their wedding day vendors. “The Embassy Club was amazing in every way,” Jessica told us. “The staff was so uniform and very professional. Imra, the GM, made sure that everything was perfect, told us not to worry. They made us feel so special.” And the two weeks before the wedding went super smooth because of Jessica’s other wedding planner … JOSH! “He was so organized it was weird!” Jessica laughed. “He told all the vendors to contact only him and not to talk to me. I was so relaxed.” But in all seriousness, one of the biggest things Jessica told us is to hire that wedding planner! She has no regrets and Anthony helped them through so much of the process. “The added help Anthony provided was top notch. He worked directly with vendors on our behalf and it was comforting to know that everyone was on the same page.” Jessica told us.

Chelsey&Wesley
The couple often enjoys walks together with Chelsey’s dog London. So Wes decided to ask Chelsey to take a walk after work, and she suggested the Art Center rose garden, he thought it was perfect time to propose. Unfortunately, the park was packed with others enjoying the evening. As a result, Wes decided to wait until later that night. They made dinner, had some wine, all while listening to Frank Sinatra. “He asked me to dance. It sounds cheesy, but this wasn’t uncommon.” Chelsey told us. Toward the end of That’s Amore, he got down on one knee and asked. “Through a mixture of laughter and tears I managed to say yes. The day was perfect. Genuine and completely us.” Chelsey’s dress was handmade by Dornink, and inspired by her grandmother’s wedding dress. “I love that she wore a short dress,” she told us. And Dornink had all the perfect accessories, art deco handbag, a clip for her hair and made her veil. She also wore a gold cuff bracelet that had been passed down for generations in her family.

Chelsey and Wes wanted photography that matched their personalities. When they met Anna Jones, they knew she was perfect, with her editorial style. “She documented our day with a journalistic approach that we are so grateful for. Our pictures tell the story.” Invites and paper were important to Wes because of his degree in Graphic Design. The couple worked with Karen at Ephemera, who nailed their style with dreamy floral prints, that were incorporated throughout the day. Lori, with Baratta’s, was a lifesaver for Chelsey and Wes. As their big day approached, it was not looking to be a beautiful day for a mostly outdoor wedding. Lori help the couple find a solution, and asked Lucca, an East Village restaurant, if their if their upstairs space was available. It was! And Lucca was so gracious in letting the couple bring all the rentals and food they had already committed to. The night was filled with 60 of their closest family and friends. With such a small group, many people spoke, telling stories and well wishes the couple will never forget. Chelsey tells us, “You can have an amazing wedding without going into debt. Make a list of the most important things to you. First, it should be each other. Remember that.”
