HEATHER POYNER INTERIOR DESIGNER

My passion for design stems from a feeling of peacefulness, joy, and a sense of belonging when stepping into a well-designed space; but a beautifully designed space is much more than a pretty room. There are many complex relationships between functionality vs. charisma, unity vs. variety, and even between the user vs. the space. I take pride in my ability to recognize these complex relationships and in my ability to implement a creative and successful solution to exceed the client's

expectations. Thank you for taking the time to view my work as a student during and after my enrollment at Northern Arizona University from 2017-2020. I look forward to working for a firm where I can implement my exceptional technical skills

and

bring

my creativity to a team of professional

ACCESSIBLE

ART COLLECTOR

Lin is a woman who has used a wheelchair her entire life. Her most important need is a space where she can independently live with ease. All amenities need to bee fully accessible, and her wheelchair must fit through all openings.

The interior aesthetic and atmosphere must be centered around her impressive art collection. This includes the proper security measures and proper space allocation for each piece. The art should be the central focus in every room.

RESIDENTIAL DESIGN

SUSTAINABLE Incorporating all facets of universal design into this project; materials should be sustainably sourced and should be made from high recycled content to greatly reduce negative enviormental impacts with thoughtful design choices.

AUTOMATION Technological advance has greatly improved the quality of life for most wheelchair users. Many amenities such as lighting and thermostat should all be integrated to be used by the sound of Lin’s voice, with all amenities connected.

Old exposed stone was a simple and utilitarian Grecian wall that served the purpose of keeping interiors cool by acting as a thick barrier from the exterior. Deep cobalt blue and white are undoubtably reminiscent of the Greek homelands. These colors represent both the national flag and the beautiful sea and sky. The Ionic Greek column is one of three important columns. It is a staple of Greek architecture and can be incorporated in both a classic and modern way.

Natural materials that have been used & repurposed, such as reclaimed wood, were used in Grecian architecture for many centuries. This is a wood accent.

Concept A brand new FLOSSophy and approach to dentistry. As soon as clients walk through the front door, the atmosphere is calming and relaxing. At FLOSS, the client will feel as though they stumbled into a day spa instead of a dentist office. The ambiance is accentuated by the feeling of privacy and adequate acoustics. The use of negative space, pearly tones, and organic shapes is reminiscent of a white

smile.

will

subconsciously believe their teeth can be as clean and white as the overall design of the office.

CONCEPT SKETCHES

FLOSS Dental reception and waiting area. Crisp, clean, and minimal ornamentation brings the center focus to the organic ceiling design. The juxtaposition between the curvature of the ceiling, and the stark, dark wood tones of the bench seating grounds the entire room design. A tranquil water feature with Zen stones adds to the ambiance both visually and acoustically.

The design for FLOSS is both purposeful and streamlined. Every design choice has a function and is neat in aesthetic. The treatment rooms have ample built-in upholstered benches for guests to wait with the patient. Each room also has a recessed ceiling mounted TV for patient’s to enjoy and keep their mind off of unpleasant procedures. Amenities for the dentist include ample storage, sufficient elbow room, and accessable tools located in each treatment stall. Dark grey tinted glass partitions separate each stall from the hallway and provide both acoustical qualities and provide privacy, while allowing for sunlight and keeping an open feel in the hallways.

The Fibonacci Sequence is a natural phenomenon which can be found in all facets of nature, science, art, and math. These perfectly symmetrical patterns exude a calming and balanced harmony which has been reflected in the architectural envelope of the Chandler Enviormental Center. This particular plant is the Crassula, a native succulent commonly found in the Arizona Desert.
