That’s right lady loves, florals aren’t just for spring anymore we can wear them all year around! Sticking to floral prints on dark bases will keep you on trend this fall.

Not so fast—if there’s one Summer trend that shows no signs of wilting, it’s the floral print. Taking on a distinctly moodier refrain, this cooler iteration of flower power has everything to do with getting the best of both worlds. With just one look at the Fall 2012 runways, you’ll instantly notice that a new batch of darker floral prints have cropped up. Rag & Bone showed off a slick tapestry floral in tailored coat silhouettes, Erdem sent out a graphic lace-infused bouquet design on everything from ladylike sheaths to structured suiting, Valentino put an overtly romantic spin on floral-embroidered gowns, and Christopher Kane made his flowers as bold and as oversize as the collection’s rich color palette. Rest assured, your favorite floral prints have been given a new seasonal lease on life. To prove our point, we’ve handpicked some of the moodiest versions to shop now. Sticking to floral prints on dark bases will keep you on trend this fall. Whether you are looking for a full on floral look for a special event or keeping things chic with smaller more subtle pieces as I prefer, one thing is for sure–wearing florals will help make you look less dull over the hibernating months. Florals are a print I’m actually super picky about. Although I love it for its femininity I find a lot of it either tacky or just not my cup of tea. That being said I do own a piece
of two. When I saw these flower print pants, I was unsure of how I felt about them. Don’t get me wrong, they are super cute and very on trend, but I am not the girliest girl you’ll ever meet and often stay away from frilly, cutesy clothing in favor of structured, edgy pieces that make me feel polished and powerful. Alas, something still drew me to these and I decided that I could style them in a way that was unexpected and very much “me”. Let’s break this down for you: Flomo patterns are tight, tiny floral prints layered over a blurredcamouflage look (basically, what you’d wear if you were trying to blend into a field of wildflowers). Spotted at rag & bone, Erdem, and Yigal Azrouël, floral camouflage is the modern twist to traditional fall prints. To achieve full flomo, forget the soft-’n’-sweet, ethereal florals of summer, and instead, capture the rich, dark brooding tones of autumn accented by a bold, vibrant pop of color. If you are daring enough to flash some flomo this fall, let’s make one thing clear: Camouflage helps you blend in. Flomo, on the other hand, is for making a statement.

Floral Prints have always been in Fashion Industry; i cannot say this is a new trend but I am sure that this trend is going to be more dominant this year. Floral denim pants are cool! We all dreamed of being Kelly Kapowski (remember the popular girl from Saved by the Bell?) in the early 90's and now that dream is a reality with the return of slim floral denim! This is one of those trends where on first thought you will say, “not over my dead body” and then after your initial repel will be thinking, “I’ll buy two!” The prints on this season’s floral jeans are actually ooool-tra flattering and slimming!! My obsession over florals increases everyday, I had to take my floral trousers out for a ride. I wore this outfit to uni the other day and I must say, I had a lot of eyes on me, whether for a postive or negative reason, I dont care! This was definitely the simplest way I could rock these trousers! The weather that was very nice but has obviously plummeted again! I'm not much of a summer lover, but this year I'm actually looking forward to the season I dread most!

3. Use Accessories
Once you chosen a floral print, wear clothing in coordinating colors to create a cohesive look. This method is also a good way to put together multiple outfits using the same item. Pay attention to pattern's colors, choose one or two, then work around your choices. From the small details to the most prominent shade, any color in the print is fair game. Because floral prints typically come in multiple colors, you’ll have multiple styling possibilities.
Wearing accessories is one the most tried and true ways of wearing any kind of pattern, and the same can certainly be said for floral prints. Even just one accessory is enough to brighten up an otherwise plain outfit. Larger items such as tote bags, hats and scarves can add some major color to a look, while jewelry and belts can bring in a light dose of floral fun. It’s a good idea to have several flower patterned accessories in your wardrobe, because you’ll never know when your outfit will need a little extra something. Even if you don’t plan ahead, a floral accessory is an easy way to add instant style.

2. Use the Same Color Palette
With so many types of floral prints to choose from, it’s important to choose a pattern that works with your personal taste and style. If you prefer styles that are simple and sophisticated, try looking for a print that features small, miniature flowers. A finer print is not only appropriate for the office and work place, but is a great way to bring in a feminine touch. If you're the type to rock statement patterns, a print featuring larger flowers will work best for you. Look for bright colors, vibrant designs and eye-catching details.

4. With Neutral Colors As with any other print, it is practically impossible for a floral print to not look good with a solid neutral shade. These colors include black, white, gray, taupe, ivory and beige. Using neutrals is another styling option to use when you aren’t wearing colors found in the actual print. It's also a good "safety" styling method when you aren't quite sure what to wear, but would like to add florals to your ensemble.

Pairing flower prints with your favorite style of heels is a great way to wear florals with sophistication. Kitten heels and wedges are both ideal options, as these types of heels are modest enough to be worn in both office and party settings. High heels and boots also look especially flattering with floral prints, especially if you're going for a more sultry yet fun look.

A bohemian shopping destination since 2003, Williamsburg’s Artists and Fleas has established a Manhattan outpost for the autumn and 2012 holiday season. The artisan and vintage goods emporium’s Chelsea Market Fall and Holiday Pop-Up brings a curated collection of makers’ wares, independent designs and found fashion and home goods to the upscale shopping mall. I love how the partnership injects some handcrafted authenticity, Brooklyn hipness and funky variety into the Chelsea complex, while also lending a sleek Manhattan chic to the outer-borough offerings.

The first store I hit and it ended up being the best; if I’d known this would have the biggest selection at the best prices, I could have saved myself a lot of walking, although the article might have suffered. With three rooms of treasures, Beacon’s Closet does a brisk trade both selling and buying vintage clothing in a friendly atmosphere playing good music. It’s a bit of a glorious muddle in the main room, with circular racks full of garments organized by color that have been packed in just a tad too tightly, but that’s all part of the fun. They also operate a Park Slope branch for those who just can’t get enough.

After building up a small-but-loyal fanbase through her flea market sales and Etsy store, jewelry designer Tracie Howarth opened this storefront on Bedford Avenue in March 2010. Half of the stock consists of pre-made designs by Howarth and other local designers, while the other half offers a dizzying array of beads, charms, chains, and clasps for creating DIY jewelry. Spools and bowls of color-coded threads and beads cover the walls and tables, including an array of rare vintage trinkets.

This Williamsburg vintage shop, hidden beneath the BQE, touts an impressive selection of button-down shirts in seventies prints, breezy summer dresses, and broken-in boots. The brick walls are adorned with vintage signs, movie posters, and the crème de la crème of the shop’s concert tees, and the entryway is framed by glass cases of jewelry, barrels of printed scarves, and a few decorative surfboards. Unlike its West Village sister store, Stella Dallas, 10 Ft. Single offers garb for both sexes, devoting equal space to mens and womenswear.
