Press Release
RIGA, JUNE 2023 [XX. MONAT 2018]
A historian church with modern door closers; The St. Peter’s Church in Riga, Latvia.
The GEZE door closers are well known in most parts of the world. In the Latvian capital Riga, this is no exception. In many buildings around the city center, the doors are held open or closed with GEZE door closers. This also goes for the historian St. Peter’s church. In the center of the city, this majestic building rises it’s tower above most of the roof tops.
The church is indeed a historian wonder. First mention of the St. Peter's Church is in records dating to 1209. Since then, the church has been damaged and rebuild a number of times, due to both fires, wars and lightning strikes. The lasts damages were caused by Artillery fire which destroyed the church in June 1941.
Conservation and restoration began 1954 with research by architect Pēteris Saulītis. The work was carried out from 1967 to 1983 under the direction of Saulītis and architect Gunārs Zirnis. The church was returned to the ownership of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia in April 2006.
Today, the church is open daily for public visitors, who can enjoy the city view from the top of the tower. Masses and concerts often fill the church and a look into the cellar under the large church witness a feeling of the long and complicated history of the building.
Walking towards the church, three heavy doors welcome you to enter into the building. The doors are equipped with GEZE door closers. The door closers, which are available in a multitude of colors, have been produced in a cobber-like color, matching the old feeling of the church and at the same time adding a stylish and innovative design to the historic look and feel.
The TS 5000 series is a complete range of door closers with guide rail systems for single and double doors. The TS 5000 series is suitable for use on internal and external doors and is of course approved for use on fire doors. The special eccentric gear ensures low opening resistance. However, in the St. Peter’s church the heaviness of the door itself of course provide a natural resistance in opening of the door. All functions of the GEZE door closer can be adjusted from the front of the door closer, allowing for quick and easy maintenance of the equipment.
