For Immediate Release November 5, 2015 Clay in Motion Opens at the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery Waterloo - The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery is pleased to present the inaugural FUSE exhibition, Clay in Motion - Recent Works by Heidi McKenzie. FUSE, a vibrant new initiative of the Gallery Shop at The Clay & Glass, is an ongoing exhibition series featuring selected works by Gallery Shop artists and special guests. Clay in Motion is comprised of two bodies of work, Anima and Maru. In the series Anima, bands of thrown and altered clay are coaxed into kinetic rhythms. Each piece drives toward resolution. Maru [circle in Japanese] is a series of interlocking toric vessels depicting community engagement and growth. Each piece is intensely personal, while at the same time seeking to express the universal experience of “living the dance.” Please join us in the new foyer exhibition space at the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery for the Opening Reception of the inaugural FUSE exhibition on Sunday, November 8 at 1pm. The artist will be in attendance and all are welcome. Heidi McKenzie is a Toronto-based ceramic artist. She comes to clay after two decades of arts management and production in the broadcast industries. Heidi holds an MFA from OCADU (2014), and Diploma from Sheridan (2012). She has exhibited nationally and internationally, including biennales and Romania, Hungary. Heidi’s studio practice engages issues of identity and belonging. A key element of Heidi’s work is “static motion.” She integrates both wheelwork and slipcasting in abstract portraiture and representation, often incorporating coloured clays to capture the complexity of subject and idea.
