A Night Out with

My Montana Wedding

For the very first time, My Montana Wedding assembled a select focus group of brides slated to marry in 2015. These lovely ladies were asked to select the cover for this year’s magazine, and we think they did an amazing job, they also contributed invaluable information to help make our publication even better. This is how it

happened. We began the evening with an elegant ride in a Wild Horse Limousine to the Tamarak Brewery in Lakeside. Once seated, we indulged in amazing food and conversation with these four lovely women, who are planning their weddings right now. After a lengthy discussion about the three possible covers, they decided on Marianne Wiest Photography’s beautiful photo of a couple in a familiar Montana field. The most magical light you have ever seen, pushed this photo over the edge to win the cover. In our association, we are surrounded by immeasurable talent, and our brides know it. Our four beautiful women appreciate the quality of vendors the association offers. They also are aware that My Montana Wedding endorses these companies, and that they, the brides, are in good hands. We could not agree more. Thank you Molly, Alexandra, Shay and Grete for helping us choose this year’s cover and for being amazing My Montana Wedding brides!

O

n the last run of the day, Christianne and Kris plopped down in the snow to rest.

That was when Kris decided to propose! Ten months of planning began.

M

As they looked into places to hold their wedding, Kris requested mountains in winter. They left Edmonton, Canada for the Lodge at Whitefish Lake. Tradition was important to Christianne, so something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue had to be part of the wedding. Christianne’s mother cut a heart out from old jeans belonging to the bride’s dad and sewed it into the wedding dress. Her mother-in-law gave Christianne Kris’s old hockey jersey name tag, which was also sewn into her gown.

Besides a perfect wedding ceremony, Christianne and Kris also treated their guests to a popcorn bar. Popcorn came in the color of the wedding, and the bride and groom’s names were printed on each bag.

The couple invited ninety-five guests and close to everyone came…in the winter… from Edmonton.

Q: We forgot to sign the marriage license on the wedding day; what happens now?

A: When you take it to the Clerk of Court, you can sign it at the desk. They cannot accept unsigned marriage licenses.

• A Circuit Court or Associate Circuit Court judge (who are prohibited by a Montana Constitutional provision from receiving any compensation for the service). • A religious society, institution or

organization in Montana of which either marriage party is a member, in accordance with the organizations regulations and customs. • Within ninety days after the marriage ceremony, the person solemnizing the marriage must complete the marriage certificate issued with the marriage license and return it to the office of the issuing Recorder. Lack of witnesses does not render a marriage invalid. However, two witnesses can submit an affidavit that the marriage ceremony took place if the certificate is lost or destroyed and the person who solemnized the marriage is unavailable.

Q: I am going to Paris for my honeymoon, what name should I travel under?

A: Passports take 4-6 weeks to receive a name change. Plan on traveling under your maiden name and bringing all of your identification that has your maiden name such as a driver’s license.

Q: We are eloping to Montana for our wedding and we will not have witnesses with us. Is that going to be a problem?

A: In the state of Montana, you are not required to have witnesses.

Q: How soon before our wedding should we be applying for a wedding license?

A: The process takes about half an hour and you can apply up to180 days prior to your wedding.

Q: How much is a wedding license in Montana? A: $53 USD, certified copies are $7.00 each. Q: Our dog must be unhappy about our upcoming nuptials because he ate our wedding license! What do we do to get a new one? Our wedding is in two weeks!

A: As a courtesy, the Clerk of Court will make a duplicate; however, you will need to re-pay the $53.

Invitations

by Heidi Roedel - Utmost Graphics, LLC

Feeling overwhelmed just looking at the checklist of things to do before your wedding? One way to minimize pre-wedding stress is to break the list down into small, manageable tasks. For example, you and your fiancé should come to an agreement about the number of guests to invite. Do this at least six months in advance. With that number in mind, sit down together and create a final guest list. You may also want to consider sending a “Savethe-Date” postcard to your guests.

12

My Montana Wedding

Creating Your Wedding Invitations After finalizing your guest list, it is time to get serious about creating and ordering your wedding invitations. Ideally, you should have your customized wedding invitations printed three to four months before your wedding, which requires the two of you to spend a fair amount of time making your wedding invitations perfect.

Engagement Session: A MUST Have by Kiralee Jones - Oh Snap! Photograhy

Marianne Wiest Photography Many wedding photographers these days include a creative, stylized engagement shoot as part of their wedding photography packages and they are trendier than ever. Whether artsy, chic, romantic or humorous, engagement photos are as unique as each couple and their photographer, for that matter. You have seen engagement photos all over the magazines, wedding blogs, and Pinterest: photos of couples who have coordinated attire, and are laughing and kissing. It is the opportunity to capture the love you have for one another and share it with the world. Your engagement will be over before you know it, but your engagement photos preserve your memories

Boudoir Session: The Perfect Gift for your Groom by Kiralee Jones - Oh Snap! Photograhy

The wedding boudoir photography trend has been on the rise for a few years now. It is a session that many wedding photo graphers will include in their wedding photography packages, and is meant to be given to the groom, as a gift either before or after the wedding. The kind of photographs captured at your session will depend on you and your photographer, but

they are meant to be flirty and sensual, and most of the time, a lot is left up to the imagination. When you choose your photographer, he or she will capture you as you are at that moment. These elegant images will live for years to come in a personalized album meant for your groom’s eyes only.

arrived in Kalispell from Canada, with the premise of Christmas shopping only to meet Kaitlyn face-to-face and fall madly in love. . . . It went both ways. So began the odyssey of planning in a short five months a wedding to remember. The bridezilla moment never appeared, and Kaitlyn credits that to a groom who just wanted to make her happy.

Honoring tradition, Kaitlyn and Jordan held to elements that suited both bride and groom: the Wedding March by Jonathan Firey and time-honored wedding vows, both very important to the bride. “The thought of stepping onto the aisle and the wedding march starting gave me goosebumps.” Jordan’s father married the couple and he really delivered for the couple by writing a ceremony that completely “. . . knocked our socks off.”

Kaitlyn’s advice? “Remember that it is YOUR day. Don’t try to make anyone happy, but your groom and yourself. Do exactly what you want and how you want—and it will be the best day of your life.”

Bouquet Trends

for Montana Brides by Darci Greenwood - Beargrass Gardens Floral & Events

A bridal bouquet is a very personal and individual component for a bride on her wedding day. It will represent who she is and her style. For years following her wedding day, she will look at photographs, her children will look at photographs, and even her grandchildren will look at photographs of her holding these very special flowers. It will make up her history, a piece of her life story. It is the image that is generally most viewed: The Bride with her bouquet.

Wild at Heart

Vintage Inspired – the vintage trend introduced itself several years ago and is still going strong. This look works perfectly with lace gowns and a casual outdoor ceremony. This particular bouquet has a vintage vibe with a rich Montana country feel. Loose and flowing, with many different floral elements, ranging from garden roses and hellebores, to vines and berries.

Classic Romance Many brides desire a timeless bouquet, one that will always be looked upon as stylish and classic. This particular bouquet is mostly white with small touches of blush, making it so romantic and feminine. Always classic and always in style.

Oh Snap! Photography

Berrylicious

Fruits and berries have become a popular element to wedding design. Designed with a rich, royal color combination, it is perfect for the Bride that seeks a more dramatic and playful bouquet. Inspired by the colors of all things fruity.

Oh Snap! Photography

Earthy Green

Succulents are still considered widely popular in the wedding design world. Once just a trend, now possibly a floral design staple? Time will tell. This bouquet is made up of many different sizes and varieties of succulents, different botanicals and several types of herbs. Oregano, rosemary and mint have also become design elements used often in bridal bouquets and centerpieces.

Bridal Trends for 2015

by Kelly Kirksey - Kelly Kirksey Photography The main focus of your wedding is the magnificent bride, dressed in a magnificent gown. No two brides are alike, so as you plan your day, trust the bridal experts to understand your unique style. From dramatic backs to fit-and-flares, your perfect gown makes a statement. Just step inside the door at one of the elite bridal boutiques to take advantage of the expertise available locally. Three of our local consultants share their visions of the leading bridal fashions for 2015.

Kelly Kirksey Photography

Xclusive Events and Formalwear Shanelle says: “The 2015 Wedding Gown shopping season has officially begun. This year we are seeing many new designs, and the standouts include gowns with a much more fluid shape, which makes for effortless elegance.” “We are welcoming amazing custom necklines and a lot of sheer panels. Beautiful couture and light-weight fabrics have taken the market by storm. They are fabulously easy to wear and they make every bride feel stunning.” “Overall, the 2015 bride is bringing the simplicity of true love back. Everything from the gown to their stylish

kind extraordinary style.”

J Scott Couture Jacklyn says: “For 2015, lace remains as one of the most sought-after trends in bridal gowns. However, traditional lace gets a modern makeover with some fantastic new details. Exquisite floral appliqués, three-dimensional lace, and sheer illusion necklines and sleeves are the perfect complement to this year’s ‘dramatic back’ wedding dresses.” “Whether they are plunging open backs, demure illusion lace with buttons, or heavily adorned with crystals, these backs are spectacular. Sleeves are a lovely alternative to bare shoulders. From full length illusion to dainty lace cap sleeves, you will be seeing many additional options to strapless gowns.”

Mimi’s Bridal Melissa says: “The ever poplular lace gown is still hot for 2015- wider straps are appearing more often as well as plunging backs with spagetti straps, cut out lace embellished cap sleeves, keyhole backs with button closures, deep v necklines and long sleeves are back!” “Dresses patterns include smart shapley styles like the mermaid, sheath and fit-and-flare with that hint of hollywood glamour and a romantic essence - these styles are great for all body types and yes, you have to have curves to make that wow statement!”

Brayden planned carefully. After receiving a blessing from Elisheba’s father, Brayden asked for her hand after work that Monday. She said “yes”, and they began planning their wedding.

Wanting to begin their journey as a married couple sooner rather than later, Elisheba and Brayden chose August 2014 for their nuptials, and Sky Ridge Ranch as their site. “It had all the elements of Montana that we love. Beautiful view. . . flowing creeks. . . amazing pond.” Plus, the old barn with new elements didn’t hurt matters.

With a modern country elegance theme, the couple incorporated galvanized metals, burlap, old barn wood, and etched Mason jars, with white linen, crystal and Mercury glass. Little bags for the candy buffet were also provided.

M Montana mountains as they exchanged vows.

From a well-orchestrated proposal during a backpacking trip, to a magnificent wedding in Shayla’s family home, this couple carefully planned their nuptials from Colorado, with a lot of hometown help from family and friends. They were married May 31, 2014.

The special site for the ceremony was enhanced by a cross on the altar, designed by Shayla’s father, and by her mom, who incorporated childhood photos, signs, and Bible verses about love for the reception, also held at the house. The couple put together a slideshow of their adventures together and of their younger days which ran during the evening.

everything was finished. Melanie said, “We starting getting so involved in the little things that we were losing sight of the whole point of getting married. For us, getting married is not about the party. It’s not about a show or the favors, or the food. It’s a commitment to each other, not to the crowd.” That is when their original decision to elope was cemented.

Melanie and Cody were wed August 10, 2014, at Lake McDonald—Mile marker 7! Traditional elements did play a large part in their wedding. Melanie’s mother made her dress, and sewed a piece of her own wedding dress in her daughter’s. Melanie’s dad made a ring box from wood used in chairs built by her grandfather. Her jewelry was from her grandmother, and blue was in her shoes. Each tradition was touched by members of her family, making the day that much more special.
