SPATIAL COLOR DIAGRAMS
I took a 2D graphic and developed it into multiple 2D line compositions and from there developed a 3D representation through a material assemblage and relief model. I then took the 3D relief model and placed vertical elements, spanning members, and horizontal plans. These elements were then used to lead the viewer and frame 4 pieces of art work in my pavilion. 2D G ra p h i c 3

INTERVENTION IN NATURE 1
NATURE VS. MAN-MADE
In Architecture there needs to be a mutual understanding between nature and man in order for us to co-exist with one another harmoniously. The purpose of this studio was to integrate the natural environment with the artificial. Beginning on a smaller scale I found a tree bark and repurposed it as my site. This exercise forced me to rethink the relationship between the randomness of nature and the precision of the man made. The final design was of a house intergrating with its landscape. The idea of unity is represented with the house carving into the site. 2

UH Manoa Charette 2nd Place PHASE 1
The school was approached to design a memorial for fallen officers killed in the line of duty. Hawaii is the only state that does not have a memorial dedicated to officers, so a non-profit organization spear headed the journey and got funding from high elected officials to start up the project. They wanted a design that embodied what Hawaii has to offer. We had to include two flag poles, a plaque explaining the memorial and to state the motto of the police department. The design of this memorial embodies the sense of protection that law enforcement officers provide the public. Transparent pillars surround central image-representing law enforcement officers protecting our island home. Individual pillars demarcate the name of the fallen, written on name plates placed within the depression. The pillars transition from solid to transparent material, allowing for light to penetrate from the bottom to the top. The light pillars have varying heights as well, giving each its own uniqueness. Dispersed within the 2’ Acrylic Rod light field are four rectangular columns, etched with the four valuesvalor, honor, courage, dedication. Stainless Steel Sleeve Seating areas are extrusions of the grid, creating a simple pattern that corresponds with the light pillars.

For the next process, I decided to cut down two levels to reduce the amount of space wasted and to keep with the aesthetic appeal with the surround buildings. To solve the problem of solar heat gain, I added brise soleil’s to the second and fourth floor and a lanai space on the third and fourth floor for natural ventilation.

Through investigation and critique of architectural theories about space and boundaries, I constructed a design initiative for the development of a Architecture Lab in Hawaii and Sweden. I created three different spaces for the client to experience. Each space had a specific function, an engage space, a retreat space and an architectural lab. A passive design system had to be included in the design process.

The next step was to choose a site on or above the 60th parallel. I took my first project and made modifications to some areas that would have not worked in a cold climate such as decrease the amount of surface area to heat. I also shorted the connection to the engaged and retreat space and lengthened the retreat space. In phase 1 of my model the architecture lab was more of a pavilion type lab. For the lab in Sweden I enclosed it and added PV glass panels to help collect heat and allow natural light.

ETFE FILM- Ethylene tetrafluoroethylene - high energy radiation resistance properties. -a fluorine based plastic. -ETFE film is self-cleaning (due to its nonstick surface) and recyclable. -able to stretch to three times its length without loss of elasticity -tears can be repaired with a patch or multiple sheets assemble into larger panels.
