Less CPP N2: Porcelain vs Lava Lights Porcelain vs Lava is a series of wall lights and chandeliers with LED lighting. The shape of its components is obtained with the technique given by our Catenary Pottery Printer Machine, taking into account the variables of amount of porcelain layers, translucency, reinforcement of the porcelain components with lava and the baking temperature, to obtain the final shape of each component. These lights include an anchor point for each porcelain piece, so it was necessary to strengthen the area. In this process, we asked ourselves what would occur if we put together a porcelain biscuit and lava into the oven. The result was that lava drains slowly over solid piece of porcelain, where the shape, gravity and temperature permit (almost like a candy). Finally, thanks to the slow cooling process, the lava contracts gradually without breaking the porcelain but holds it completely, achieving a collaborative material with zones of greater mechanical resistance within the piece. The project is part of the exhibition “New Territories Lab” in the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) of New York, taking place between November 2014 and April 2015. gt2P is a studio involved in projects of architecture, art and design, established in Santiago, Chile. We are in a continuous process of research and experimentation, promoting new encounters between the technologies for projecting and the richness of the local expressed in traditional materials and techniques.

O Lamp I created a handmade shell for light that is now ready to hatch! O Lamp is made with recycled paper, and just like an egg it holds a new life. The shell protects the light contained within which in turn seeps through the paper’s breaks. O Lamps create emotional sceneries, shadows and atmospheres wherever they are placed: on bookcases or over a desk, on the floor, hanging from the ceiling, the same lamp for multiple solutions. You can personalize your O Lamp in size and cable color giving birth to your own unique object. Designer: Fabio Romenici Photography: Fabio Romenici

Cloud The Cloud is an interactive lamp and speaker system, designed to mimic a thundercloud in both appearance and entertainment. Using motion sensors, the cloud detects a user's presence and creates a unique lightning and thunder show dictated by their movement. The system features a powerful speaker system from which the user can stream music via any Bluetooth compatible device. Using colorchanging lights, the cloud is able to adapt to the desired lighting color and brightness. The cloud also has alternative modes such as a nightlight and music reactive mode. On one hand, "Cloud" is an Arduino-controlled, motion-triggered lightning & thunder performance. On the other, it is a music-activated visualizer and suspended speaker unit. Acting as both a semi-immersive lightning experience, or as speaker with visual feedback, this nightlight/nightspeaker hybrid introduces a new discourse for what a nightlight could be. Richard writes: "Advances in physical computing and interaction design hardware over recent years have created a new breed of smartobjects, which are gaining more and more traction in the design world". Baggy Lamp A sculptural lamp in limited edition, where each one is different from the other. Any shape can be created, and anyone can make their own interpretation of it, like with the clouds in the windswept sky. The colored metal mesh and tranparent fiberglass solidifies the shape. A dichotomous image that plays with the feelings of the viewer and encourages him to interact. A soft hardness or a hard softness? The viewer has to approach the lamp and touch it to understand the material misled by sight. The personality of the lamp transforms with the presence of light, dematerializing when turned off and coming to life when switched on. Skull Light This lamp has a very strong emotional identity. The skull, carefully shaped by hand gives an absolute uniqueness to the piece. Each one is different. The use of raw materials such as copper coated, galvanized wire mesh gives it a preciousness in stark contrast to the rough concrete base. A dim light illuminates the sculpture, highlighting the quiet existence of the always present significant symbolism of the skull. A project in a limited edition of 50 pieces, that was a forerunner of the trend of skulls that exploded a few years ago in the world of fashion, design and art. Meltdown Chairs

123

PP Tube #1 The PP Tube #1 Meltdown Chair is created by heating and pressing a seat-shaped form into a stack of common plumbing tubes. The ends of the tubes melt and fuse together as they come into contact with the heated form leaving a pattern of irregular holes on the surface of the moulded seat.

Designer: Tom Price

These are produced in a limited edition of 12 in white, and 12 in black. They form part of a series of chairs created using the same technique with different materials.

PE Stripe The PE Stripe Meltdown Chair is made by pressing a heated metal chair-shaped form into a stack of colourful woven plastic rugs. The rugs begin to melt as they come into contact with the heated form, then set in the shape of the seat as they cool, creating a contrast in colour, form and texture.

Bronze #1 The Bronze #1 Meltdown Chair is made using a "lost-plastic" casting technique. The original form for the chair, made from polypropylene tubes, is encased in a thick ceramic shell and then melted out to create a cavity into which the molten bronze is poured. Once cooled, the ceramic shell is broken away to reveal the bronze form within. The back and underside is left "raw" and patinated black. The seat is polished to a bright mirror finish.

Cable Tie

Fleece The Fleece Meltdown Chairs are part of a series commissioned by Arts Co for the exhibition, 'From Now to Eternity', and are made exclusively from discarded polyester fleece clothing.

The Cable Tie Meltdown Chair is created by heating and pressing a seat-shaped form into a woven ball of approximately 10,000 black nylon cable ties. The ties begin to liquify as they come into contact with the heated form, then set in the shape of the seat as it cools, creating a contrast in form and texture to the remaining ties.
