CALDER VALE METHODIST CHURCH
Once again we say a big thank you to all our bakers, helpers and buyers at our last Pop Up Cake Stall. We raised a magnificent £400 for Macmillan Cancer Support. In October we welcomed Mr Paul Bowden and some of his son’s Lego men to introduce his ‘all-age worship’. As well as a reading of Julia Donaldson’s book ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’. Our all-age worship on Sun 7th Nov will be led by Rev Keith Borwick. Mr John Bell, from the Iona Community, joined us in October. On Saturday afternoon he spoke about, and we sang our way through, some of the Psalms and their relevance for today. On Sunday his theme was ‘Caring for the Earth’ which went towards his ‘Thought for Today’ on Radio 4 the following morning. Our Sunday services continue almost as usual (with care as the numbers of Covid rise daily). On Sun 14th Nov we will gather at the War Memorial in Calder Vale at 10:45am in readiness for the Act of Remembrance there. Our CAMEO (Come And Meet Each Other) group has started meeting again on the third Friday of the month at 2:00pm. On Fri 19th Nov we will share a cuppa, cake, and make a Christmas Card and, of course, there will be lots of chat. Do come along and join us. On Sun 28th Nov (the first Sunday in Advent) at 2:00pm we will have a family time (all ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult). This will be followed by the lighting and blessing of the Crib. Hopefully this year we will be able to share in mince pies and a drink. We are then in the run up to Christmas and hopefully more normal times. Whatever shortages there may or not be in the shops the Christmas message that Christ our Saviour is born will be the same.
