We live in a generous and kind community – Editor’s Note
Editor's Note
Ioften think about how lucky we are to live in this community. I’m not talking about the city or the weather - by community, I really mean people. Recently, I met a few people that are new to Edmonton, including the talented Assistant Conductor of the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Cosette Justo Valdés. One of the first things she listed as her favourite parts about Edmonton are its people: kind, generous, welcoming.
The Edmonton Oilers have embraced little Ben Stelter, a 5-year old cancer fighter, and the special relationship they’ve developed with him is so heartwarming. Seeing Ben doing morning skates with McDavid, Draisaitl and the rest of the team has been a highlight for all of us. It seems like the whole city of Edmonton is following this incredible friendship, cheering for Ben and for the Oilers together. This is one of the most inspiring things we’ve seen; another statement of kindness and the big heart of people around us.
Gord Steinke, one of the most familiar faces amongst TV news anchors, announced his retirement in April, and we are thrilled that we had an opportunity to talk to him about his career highlights, what’s on the bucket list and what his new adventures look like.
After a long wait and a canceled concert due to the pandemic, Jesse Cook is finally coming back to Edmonton. In anticipation of his upcoming concert, our managing editor Beryl Bacchus had a great opportunity to talk to him and learn more about this guitar virtuoso.
If you follow Modern Luxuria on social media, you may know we are looking for Edmonton’s best dressed – make sure you nominate yourself or someone you know, if you feel you fit into this cool category. Fashion remains one of our favourite areas to cover, whether it’s personal brands and styles or local boutiques. We are always on the lookout for those who love fashion as much as we do.
We hope you’ll enjoy the May edition of Modern Luxuria, as much as the beautiful weather, time with your loved ones, and the many generous and kind people we’re surrounded with.
