Walking into The Art of Cake Café & Bakery you can’t help but notice the amazingly beautiful cakes and pastries in the display case. These custom made delectables are the genius artistry of Chef Gloria Bednarz.
It seems almost criminal to sit down and relax in the café’s stylish and vintage decor to bite into such perfectly made pastry — but then the flavour explosion in your mouth makes you glad you did.
Earlier in her career, Bednarz worked as a Pastry Chef Manager in high end hotel kitchens. An artist at heart, Bednarz longed for more than just producing the popular cookie cutter cakes and pastries seen in many dessert trays. She wasn’t happy in the corporate cooking world — she wanted to create beautiful, unique, and delicious goods that everyone gets excited about and come back for more. She decided it was time to open her own shop.
Bednarz bakes for weddings, events, and individuals alike. The Café is family run, including her Chef husband in the kitchen and son at the front counter. There are brunch and lunch menus to go with an assortment of delicious coffee and teas served in delicate china cups. Normally on Sundays they have a Traditional English High Tea which includes a three-tiered tea tray filled with finger sandwiches, sweets, and pastries, but for now, during COVID times customers can enjoy High Tea Take Away.
Between your choice of cakes, cookies, pastries, pies, cinnamon buns, and more there’s something delicious for everyone. www.theartofcake.ca
