Talking with Terrell
From food to cars, the talented Mr. Edwards tells us his favourites
WORDS BY LINDSAY BROMMELAND PHOTOGRAPHY BY TATYANA SEMENOVA
Terrell Edwards describes himself as a crooning showman - a modest summary considering his resume: singer, songwriter, producer, motivational speaker, and self produced game show host. He has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry and warmed the stage for Jay Leno.
What brought you to Edmonton? I was living in Atlanta, working with my writing partner. I went on a cruise to the Bahamas and met someone from Edmonton. We started travelling back and forth. During the time I was in Edmonton I met some incredible people. The spirit of the place kept me around. You have opened for Jay Leno a few times.
Are you still based out of Edmonton? Yes, though I am in the States quite a bit. I’ve just kind of flipped it. I spend more time in Las Vegas and California now, so being here is actually better [than Atlanta]. From here, in 3 hours, I’m there [California]. From Atlanta, it took me 8 hours sometimes because a dream car? or A5 — I think that’s a really slick car. Not too fancy,
of connections.
Nickelback or The Tragically Hip? The Tragically Hip, just because they were a little more on the organic side. Watching them perform just made me think a little bit more.
What is your favorite cover song to sing? The Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody”. I “Terrell-orized” it (laughs). And “A Change is Gonna Come”; it's relevant right now to Black Lives Matter, Covid, all that. People are hoping for a change! Where is your favorite place to eat in Edmonton? I’ve got to be honest - it’s Cactus Club. I hate to say that because one of my buddies owns Earl’s, which is right up there with it. I also love Sabor. Chris Mena, one of the owners of Sabor, is in my Rat Pack Vegas Show.
Have you gotten a chance to chat with him? What’s he like? He is one of the nicest guys I have ever met. I’m not saying that because he’s Jay Leno, I’m saying that because he is just a genuinely nice guy.
He is famous for his car collection. Do you have A car that’s paid for! In my 20’s and 30’s I had the opportunity to splurge, so I’ve done my thing with cars already. Now, if I’ve got no debt, I’m happy. The next car I’m going to buy is a Cadillac or an Audi A4 There are 2 songs, one is on my Unchained album,
just classy.
What does Luxuria mean to you? Luxuria is the ultimate class and the ultimate comfort. Class is not always synonymous with comfort, so luxuria is class and comfort.
