The Pick n Pay Wine & Food Festival Cape Town takes place on the water’s edge at the V&A Waterfront’s North Wharf from 3 to 5 April, where 35 estates across the Cape winelands will have their finest wines on offer for your tasting pleasure.
Whether you’re looking for that perfect pinotage, or even a vibrant viognier, you’ll have no problem finding it, along with a whole lot more. Swirl, sip and savour to your heat’s delight and once you’ve found your favourites, you can purchase them right there, at the same price you’d pay at the cellar door. You wouldn’t be blamed for thinking you’re on an actual wine farm!
Where there’s wine, there’s food, and a bounteous feast awaits at the Pick n Pay Fresh Food Market. Enjoy the oven-fresh breads, delicious cheeses and a selection of fruit and veg. Tasty steak boards, cheese platters, burgers, sandwiches, coffee and tea, a full range of snacks for the littlies and more, will also be available to purchase.
A highlight of the event is the hugely popular Pick n Pay Tasting Room, where expert wine makers and professional chefs will indulge your senses with award-winning wines, exquisitely paired with melt-in-your-mouth canapés. Not only a gastronomic experience of note, you’ll also learn how to impress your friends with your new pairing prowess! Seats for the 30-minute sessions are limited and sell out fast, so book early at www.webtickets.co.za.

OPERA LOVERS PREPARE FOR PUMEZA MATSHIKIZA’S DAZZLING DEBUT ON MARCH 22ND
The Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts in association with Old Mutual will, for the first time, welcome South African lyric soprano Pumeza Matshikiza to the Garden’s stage on 22 March.
Hailed as ‘one of today’s most exciting new operatic voices’ and considered a rising star of her generation by fans and professional critics alike, Matshikiza’s voice has won the hearts of audiences in opera houses across the globe.
This summer, Capetonians will have a rare opportunity to hear her perform live on home ground. “This city is home to me and the Cape Town Opera, as well as Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, were some of my first musical experiences, so performing at Kirstenbosch feels like a beautiful return to where it all began,” said Matshikiza.
Tickets cost R170/p - R220/p. Book now at any Pick n Pay or online at www.webtickets.co.za

THE SOUNDS OF SOUTH AFRICA COME TO LIFE AT THE CAPE TOWN CARNIVAL 2020
From marimba to marabi, uhadi to riel. The voices of our women to the footsteps of our ancestors. The beat of the drum, to the echoing calls for change. The Cape Town Carnival theme this year, “Incredible Journey: Sounds of South Africa” showcases the music, song, dance and art of our country. Each is so powerful and distinct; it connects us to our past, our future, our country and each other.
Since June last year, the crew and 2 000 performers from more than 50 talented community-based groups have been designing floats, making costumes, synchronising moves and perfecting melodies. Join us on 21 March at 19:00 on the Green Point fan walk to experience creativity and talent. Get ready for your imagination to be taken by surprise.
General access to the Carnival is completely free! Want a seat; purchase a bleacher-style terraced platform seat or the ultimate Cape Town Carnival hospitality experience.
The parade will unfold through various themed pods of grouped dancers, floats and puppets showcasing “Incredible Journey: Sounds of South Africa”.
These include:
Footsteps of the first artists - The oldest evidence of humans creating marks with meaning were found in Blombos Cave, South Africa. It’s proof that we’ve been a creative nation since the beginning of time. Our incredible journey begins by celebrating the world’s first artists which includes a giant eland sculpture inscribed with symbols and marks to suggest artistic expressions of the early Southern African peoples; sounds include a bow-harp, played by Glen Arendse of Khoi Konnexion, giving a feeling of being steeped in deep distant time.
DANCE! Energy in motion – a celebration of South Africa’s dance styles which includes a group that kicks up dust through the distinctly South African Riel dance form, along with gumboot dancers; groups for this pod include ATKV Riel champions, and gumboot dancing by Phatizwelethu, Masizakhe, Masi Creative Hub and IthembaLabantu.
