Understanding Feeding Bras and Maternity Bras There is a sea change in the life of a woman as a new mother. She has to adjust and modify everything according to the needs of the newborn. And one of the most crucial factors is feeding. With conventional methods, a mother has to remove the bra completely to breastfeed the baby. However, a feeding bra/nursing bra or maternity bra can change all this. A feeding bra/nursing bra has a specialized design with flaps on the cups.

These flaps can be easily opened giving the baby access to nipples, without the need to remove the bra. The term maternity bra usually means the bra worn during pregnancy, but for general effect can be used interchangeably for feeding bra/nursing bra.

Choosing the Correct Bra A feeding bra/nursing bra must be comfortable and flexible. It must be easily operated, even with a single hand as the other hand may be busy holding the baby. Always make sure that there is extra space available in them, as the shape of breasts tends to change during milk production and emptying. An underwire bra is a strict no for lactating mothers. Other than these, it must have non-slipping and broad stripes for support. It should also be made up of smooth materials like silk or cotton for extra comfort.

The Correct Time to Buy The size of the breasts changes over the period of pregnancy and lactation. So it becomes quite confusing as to when must one buy their feeding bra/nursing bra or maternity bra. Unfortunately, there is no specific way to tell which size up to which the

breasts may grow. For some mothers, the size increases rapidly, while for some, it may not. However, it is advisable to always buy a bra with a bit of extra room to accommodate the growth of the breasts. How Many Bras to Own? The minimum number of such bras one should have is two to three, as there can be leaks or spilling accidents while feeding the baby. So there may be a frequent need of changing the bras during the day. There should always be an extra bra in the bag on a trip outside home. These bras must also be easily washable. Maternity Bra vs. Feeding Bra/Nursing Bra A maternity bra is usually designed to be worn during the pregnancy. It can comfortably accommodate the growing size and changing shape of the breasts. Most maternity bra manufacturers make them adaptable to be used as a feeding bra/nursing bra too.

Being a new mother is a wonderful experience. And it can be multiplied manifolds just with a few good choices and certain aspects in mind, like comfort, functionality, fit and fashion.
