THE FASHION PACK have their eyes glued to Milan, but for quick, clever, real-world styling tricks, the coming season is all about New York. No wonder the first city on the circuit was recently named the world’s most fashionable capital (sorry, Paris) by online-traffic monitors. Setting the tone for fashion-watchers, the action on the street proved as influential as what was happening inside. On the runways, it was the Aussies who proved it’s not what you wear, it’s how you wear it. If it feels like NY’s moment sped by in a stream of blinkand-you’ll-miss-them Insta vids (Wang’s survivalist gear, Prabal Gurung’s Burger King-crowned streaker and Opening Ceremony’s choco wall), let’s revisit the looks you don’t have to spend six months on wait-lists to wear.

Vallance made her New York debut, passing up her usual ultra-feminine floatiness for masculine tailoring (made ladylike by way of mesh, embossed florals and flirty hemlines). Get clever with layering by stacking multiple pieces in the same shade. Your takeaway? A mix of different textures is the trick to creating subtle dimension.

Lee’s fourth international season showcased his Australian heritage, taking inspiration from British convicts, the Outback’s nastier creatures (snake prints in a heavenly shade of blue) and Crocodile Dundee. Trade in long dungarees for an ankle-grazing version – extra points for cold-weather fabrics like wool – and switch up tees for long sleeves.
The NYC-via-Sydney label sent a simple palette of pink, red, camel and black down the runway – covering the style spectrum from modest-polish to after-dark glamour. The effect was effortless, with fluid-draped wool coats and liquid-satin slips… and those long gloves are begging to be paired with an LBD at your next fancy occasion.
