SAFETY, DESIGN and PASSION SHOEI helmets take their form from state-of-the-art technology combined with nearly 60 years of helmet building experience, using the most advanced materials available. With safety, comfort, and passion in mind, SHOEI product development always takes customer feedback, demands of the market, and new trends into consideration. Although safety and functionality always play the dominant role, the design aspect is never neglected. This special combination of perfect functionality, unique design, and unsurpassed quality standards are testimony to the passion that SHOEI has for motorcycle riders worldwide.

PRODUCTION and QUALITY ASSURANCE For all the energy and passion invested into the development of a product, the same level of care and due diligence must be achieved during the production process. A number of unique, state-of-the-art processes combine to yield the unrivaled quality that only SHOEI helmets are known for, and each helmet must pass several rigorous inspections throughout the production process before being awarded the famous SHOEI hexagon. The actual production of a single SHOEI helmet takes up to five days.

AIM+ (Advanced Integrated Matrix Plus); Proprietary technology integrates a multi-ply matrix specifically designed to meet both SNELL M2015 and DOT standards. Hand-laid interwoven layers of fiberglass with lightweight organic and high performance fibers. SHOEI’s strongest, lightest, most elstic shell provides optimal impact absorption. ROBOTIC LASER CUTTING gives each helmet its final shape. All protrusions created in manufacturing are cut off, and the openings for the shield and ventilation systems are cut into the helmet shell with robotically-controlled lasers. Once this process is complete, all helmets are thoroughly inspected to ensure that they have the correct material thickness and weight. SHOEI’S PAINTING AND GRAPHIC APPLICATION processes are second to none. Though some of our production steps have been automated today, it is absolutely critical that many processes are still completed by hand. Combining meticulous handwork and automation in production ensures optimal quality, and each SHOEI helmet still boasts a premium-painted finish with hand-applied decals before being sealed with additional layers of clearcoat. SHOEI applies up to five layers of paint to each helmet.

FINAL ASSEMBLY of each helmet is done with care and precision, including the installation of ventilation sliders, shield seals, impact absorbing EPS liners, and comfort interiors. Each helmet passes a detailed final inspection before being passed on to the consumer. AERODYNAMICS

Motorcyclists live in a stream of moving air, which is precisely why every SHOEI model undergoes extensive aerodynamic testing in SHOEI’s very own wind tunnel. In addition to the shell, the aerodynamic efficiency of spoilers and vents are also analyzed in SHOEI’s wind tunnel for optimal performance. As a result, every SHOEI helmet boasts an aerodynamic design that increases air flow and reduces noise, buffeting, and lift, ultimately increasing performance and overall rider comfort.

VENTILATION

An integral part of the development process, SHOEI’s ventilation systems direct cooling, moisture-drying air into the helmet, and utilize areas of negative air pressure to the rear of the helmet to draw warm, damp air through the outlets and into the outside environment. Perfect shape and placement of vent inlets and outlets, along with air channels buried within SHOEI’s Dual-Layer EPS Liners, are the basis for optimum ventilation, and are a significant part of what separates SHOEI from the competition.

QR-E BASE PLATE SYSTEM SHOEI’s QR-E Base Plate System is one of the most advanced shield attachment mechanisms in the world. The simple shield release makes it easy to change your shield as conditions dictate. Also, widely appreciated is the convenience of SHOEI’s shield fine tuning adjustment dial. Each time the shield is lowered, the spring-loaded base plates pull the shield back to contact the window beading evenly, ensuring a wind and waterproof seal.

The CWR-F shield, featured on SHOEI’s X-Fourteen helmet, sets a new standard in shield aerodynamics; like the Qwest helmet’s CW-1 shield, it is both taller and wider than the CX-1V it replaces. Both shields protect riders from 99% of the sun’s damaging UVA and UVB rays, and the CW-1’s three dimensional injection-molding process ensures distortion-free vision. All four shields work in conjunction with SHOEI’s optional Pinlock® system to deliver fog-free vision in even the most challenging conditions. The RF-1200’s and RF-SR’s CWR-1 shield offers all these features, plus innovative ribs on the top and bottom edges of the shield that improve rigidity and eliminate bending occuring from wind pressure, as well as opening and closing. The Pinlock®-ready CWR-F and CWF-1 shields provide a flat surface to accommodate tear-off sheets, while still ensuring a tight seal between the shield and the helmet’s window beading. Tear-off posts on the flat shields allow for tear-off tension to be adjusted without tools, making it easier and quicker to adjust racing tear-offs. REPLACEABLE REAR FLAPS

Ask any engineer in the racing paddock, and they’ll tell you that one of the most important considerations in motorcycle design - the difference between winning and losing - is aerodynamics. The state-of-the-art wind tunnel facility at SHOEI’s Ibariki factory is an integral part of the helmet development process, and it was here that the aerodynamic performance of the X-Fourteen was born. Placing an emphasis on aerodynamic optimization in racing’s numerous riding positions, SHOEI engineers achieved the most aerodynamic and stable X-Series helmet yet. The X-Fourteen showcases an advanced shell shape, along with a completely redesigned Rear Stabilizer. The Patent-Pending Rear Stabilizer system features a standard set of Rear Flaps that can be replaced with an optional, narrower set of flaps to help fine-tune resistance and aerodynamic performance depending on rider preference and track demands. In addition, strategically placed ridges along the top of the shell and chin bar allow wind to stream off the helmet with minimal resistance, ultimately reducing drag and improving stability. Add to the mix a removable Lower Air Spoiler that can be affixed to the chin bar to further improve aerodynamic stabilization, and you’re left with the new standard for high-speed performance.

Form & Function Redefined GT-AIR II DESIGN CONCEPT Released in 2013, as SHOEI’s premium touring full-face helmet with an internal sun shield, the original SHOEI GT-Air established this type of helmet as a functional and stylish alternative appreciated by many riders, owing to its convenience and aggressive, refined design. SHOEI has now released the all-new GT-Air II, a helmet that evolves the GT-Air’s functionality, performance, and design primarily for touring use to a new, higher level of experience. The SHOEI GT-Air II integrates the optional SENA SRL 2 Bluetooth communication system seamlessly into the concept of this helmet. The GT-Air II is also equipped with a CNS-1 face shield and baseplate system; allowing the face shield to open slightly more in its “cracked open” position to reduce fogging of the shield at low speed. The GT-Air II also uses an all-new extended QSV-2 inner sun shield for improved coverage of the rider’s face in bright sunny conditions. Inheriting the functionality, performance, and design of the GT-Air, the GT-Air II further enhances the performance of the internal sun shield, full-face helmet.

AIM SHELL CONSTRUCTION

• Light Weight & Optimum Rigidity

Utilizing a multilayered structure of strong glass fiber and organic fibers, SHOEI’s AIM (Advanced Integrated Matrix) shell construction ensures a high-performance shell structure designed exclusively by SHOEI. AIM shell construction makes for a helmet that is light weight, yet rigid in elasticity. The GT-Air II offers proprietary technology that integrates a multi-ply matrix specifically designed to meet DOT standards. SHOEI is uncompromising in their position to maintain a uniform level of safety with every one of their products, while pursuing optimum shell rigidity and lighter weight.

UPDATED CNS-1 SHIELD & QSV-2 SUN SHIELD CNS-1 Shield

• Improved Performance

The GT-Air uses the proven SHOEI CNS-1 face shield. The base plates for this face shield have been redesigned for improved opening performance in the “cracked open” position. Based on SHOEI’s landmark QR-N base plate, this updated design adds a new opening position for keeping the shield slightly more open in this first open (or “cracked open”) position, thus giving a rider more ventilation options. The gear teeth of the base plate have been redesigned to make the face shield’s first open position have a taller opening, improving ventilation to a rider’s face in foggier, moist conditions. The GT-Air II’s redesigned base plate also moves the face shield’s attachment point back on the shell, positioning the shield closer to the rear of the helmet. This new location adds a gap between the rear edge of the baseplate and the indentation on the attachment. This design change improves the shield’s adjustment range, and makes opening and closing the face shield easier for the rider. The GT-Air II includes a built-in sun shield, the QSV-2. The sun shield tucks neatly away beneath a non-intrusive shell built into the helmet’s liner and can be lowered with the easy control of a sliding switch.

PINLOCK® FOG RESISTANT SYSTEM A Pinlock® EVO lens comes as standard equipment on the GT-Air II to help prevent shield fogging. This anti-fog lens system ensures a clear field of vision, even when riding in high humidity and/or cold weather.

The GT-Air II’s interior uses a hybrid fabric construction offering both a moisture-absorbent, quick-drying material and soft-raised fabric. The moisture-absorbent, quick-drying material is located in area that contact a rider’s cheeks and brow where sweat tends to stick while riding. Soft, raised fabric is located where a rider’s skin tends to rub when wearing or removing the helmet. This design update offers improved rider comfort. Red stitching is used on the leather areas on the bottom of the GT-Air II cheek pads. Red stitching is also used on the leather and mesh fabric areas on both sides of the eye port, accentuating the design. SHOEI’s stainless steel Micro Ratchet Chinstrap offers quick and secure closure.

• Bluetooth Communication System

Based on the exclusive SHOEI RIDER LINK (SRL) system designed for the SHOEI NEOTEC II by SENA, the new SRL2 Bluetooth communication system has been developed specifically to integrate with the GT-Air II. For the GT-Air II, a wired microphone is utilized for the communication system, which connects to the SRL2’s connection socket. Similar to the original SRL system, the GT Air II’s system is equipped with an attachment base that integrates easily with the helmet’s shell design and the GT Air II integrated wire routing channels throughout the helmet. This design makes the SRL2 easy to install and to charge the unit.The SRL 2 offers long battery life and talk time, SPEAKERS Bluetooth 4.1 technology, advanced noise control, and a built-in FM radio with 10 presets and automatic scanning for convenient connectivity while riding. SRL2 may also be controlled via a smartphone app available from the Apple App store or MICROPHONE The Google Play Store. EMERGENCY QUICK RELEASE SYSTEM (EQRS) The GT-Air II also utilizes SHOEI’s EQRS (Emergency Quick Release System) which allows emergency medical personnel to easily remove the cheek pads from the helmet of a rider involved in an accident, making the helmet more removable in emergencies.

The GT-Air II is available in six sizes (XS-2XL) using three shell sizes to optimize both the fit for the rider and stability of the helmet at speed.

Slim & Light One of the most important features of a quality helmet is that you hardly know it’s there protecting your head. SHOEI has reduced the weight of the RF-1200® by using a slimmer design and building a distinct line into the side of the helmet that also serves as an accent. As a result, the SHOEI RF-1200® is lighter than any other Snell certified helmet in the current SHOEI lineup.

Shell Construction The slim design of the SHOEI RF-1200®, with its distinct accent cut line, widens the bottom of the helmet to help ease the process of putting the helmet on or off. Further advancing the comfort of the AIM+ shell is the industry leading four shell sizes that the SHOEI RF-1200® comes in. Extensive wind tunnel testing helps SHOEI realize a practical aerodynamic shape that limits the lift and shake that high speeds commonly create while riding. The slim, aerodynamic design developed through wind tunnel testing lessens the load on the rider’s neck and creates a more comfortable riding experience.

FULL-FACE HELMET Quietness The SHOEI RF-1200® has achieved a new level in the reduction of wind noise. Through advancements in the aerodynamic shape, improved interior liners, and an improved shield system, the rider will enjoy a very quiet and comfortable riding experience. The 3D-shaped interior of the RF-1200® has achieved a balance of a comfortably soft fit and a firm, stable hold. The removable cheek pads utilize soft polyurethane foam, covering six layers of hard polyurethane to reduce shaking. The bottom of the cheek pads feature a high volume design, filling in the distinct and aggressive accent line of the shell of the helmet, comfortably forming to the riders neck and blocking wind from entering the helmet. The multi-layer cheek pads also improve the range of motion in the neck, thus helping the rider to check traffic behind him or her.

Shield System The RF-1200® features a shield system that continues to offer the rider the best in optical performance. The CWR-1 Pinlock® shield features ribs on the top and bottom of the shield to improve rigidity and eliminate bending of the shield caused by wind pressure or the opening and closing of the shield. Independent beading on the top and sides of the helmet help to keep the seal of the shield tight and eliminate any excess air. In addition to the CWR-1 shield, SHOEI has developed an updated base plate for the RF-1200®. The QR-E base plate is spring-loaded and pulls the shield back onto the helmet’s window beading, sealing it tightly with strengthened springs to guard against wind and rain. The addition of a new fivestage rotating dial allows for fine tuning of the base plate for easy shield sealing adjustments.

Ventilation Rigorous wind tunnel testing and development has resulted in the improved ventilation of the RF-1200®. A large lower three position vent, three upper air intake vents, and four uniquely positioned upper exhaust outlet vents combine with the Dual-Layer/Multi-Density EPS liner to allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through tunnels created in the EPS liner, while also allowing for a more compact, lightweight design. ©2019 Helmet House, Inc

Design Concept When SHOEI first introduced the NEOTEC in 2011, riders worldwide realized not all modular helmets were created equal. With its lightweight, highly aerodynamic shell, advanced noise reduction, and optimal vision protection, all combined with an ease of use (critical to a modular helmet), SHOEI had indeed achieved new heights in head gear design. But that was just the beginning. Now, with the NEOTEC II, SHOEI has not only improved on already outstanding features, but also introduced design advances to bring their premiere modular design into a whole new era.

Ventilation Performance The NEOTEC II’s improved ventilation system has been wind-tunnel tested for cool air intake and hot air expulsion. Large upper and lower vent shutters offer greater ease of use with gloves. The expanded three-position upper air intake helps increase ventilation performance and adjustability. All-new exhaust outlets flank the upper air intake vents for improved hot air clearance.

Aerodynamics Helmet aerodynamics have been wind tunnel-tested, and optimized to accommodate varying riding positions. The NEOTEC II’s shell-integrated spoiler is now reshaped and repositioned to further reduce lift and drag. The helmet’s top air outlet also serves as a spoiler when riding in the upright position. Chin bar aerodynamics are improved by the newlydesigned “Aero Deflector”.

Micro Ratchet Chin Strap The Micro Ratchet Chin Strap is a 100% stainless steel interlocking mechanism which offers quick and smooth closure and opening, comfort, and is easily adjustable.

Noise Reduction

The NEOTEC II’s enhanced shell shape has been designed to improve noise control. A new airtight window bead, along with the face cover’s “Vortex Generator” lip, help reduce noise and manage overall airflow. SHOEI also developed new “Noise Isolator” cheekpads that deflect wind, as well as reduce unwanted noise. NOTE: Optional cheek pads without noise isolator available — see page 71.

CNS-3 Shield System The newly-designed CNS-3 shield comes equipped with the Pinlock® EVO fog-resistant system, protects from 99% of the sun’s damaging UV rays, and provides improved air/water sealing and noise reduction. 3D injection molding ensures a distortion-free view throughout the entire field of vision. Flip-Up Face Cover The NEOTEC II’s Flip-Up Face Cover is designed to convert instantly from a full-face to an open-face configuration with the simple push of a large lock release button located at the chin. The Face Cover holds firmly in the open position with the help of the all-new 360º Pivot Locking System, which assures a safe, secure closure when the cover is in the down, locked position. Lightweight Face Cover/face shield rotate with smooth precision on a variable eccentric axis, yielding the seamless versatility of a two-in-one design. 360º Pivot Locking System

QSV-1 Internal Sun Shield SHOEI’s NEOTEC II includes a built-in QSV-1 sun shield that offers instant relief from sun glare with the use of a large, easily located switch. The distortion-free view blocks 99% of the sun’s damaging UV rays, and exceeds ANSI Z80.3-2010 standards for non-prescription eyewear. The helmet’s outer shell forehead area is raised slightly to accommodate the internal sun shield. This allows the integrity of the helmet’s inner EPS liner to remain intact.

CJ-2 SHIELD QSV-1 SUN SHIELD The J-Cruise comes equipped with a CJ-2 shield, featuring a slight contour or “air dam” along the bottom to reduce wind entry. When down, the shield is kept firmly in place with an improved, easy to use shield lock mechanism. The CJ-2 shield includes built-in pins for a Pinlock EVO® fog resistant system (sold separately), and offers 99% protection from harmful UV A & B rays.The shield base has also been improved; a simple “down & press” action seals the shield into a secure dual-ridge window bead, further reducing wind and rain entry. The J-Cruise also features SHOEI’s exclusive QSV-1 retractable, built-in sun shield. Built to the standard of high-grade sunglasses, the QSV-1 not only reduces glaring sunlight, but also eliminates visual distortion, ensuring an optimal view while riding.

DESIGN CONCEPT SHOEI’s Hornet X2 is a hybrid of a premium road and off-road helmet. The shape of the mouthpiece and chin bar area is designed to improve air intake and ventilation performance, while giving the rider additional air space needed to accommodate heavy breathing during off-road riding. Improving on the traditional off-road mouthpiece, the Hornet X2 provides additional protection in the event of adverse weather. A multi-stage lower vent shutter allows riders to fine tune airflow for most riding conditions.

FOUR SHELL SIZES The Hornet X2 features SHOEI’s exclusive Multi-Ply Matrix AIM+ shell construction. The shell is incredibly strong, extremely lightweight, and comes in four shell sizes to ensure a custom fit for heads between sizes XS-2XL.

EMERGENCY QUICK RELEASE SYSTEM +

Using technology from SHOEI’s racing helmets, the Hornet X2 is equipped with the Emergency Quick Release System (E.Q.R.S.)+ that allows emergency medical personnel to easily remove the cheek pads from an injured rider’s helmet, thus allowing the helmet to be safely lifted from the head without creating unnecessary neck strain.

MOTION ENERGY DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM The proprietary, SHOEI-exclusive Motion Energy Distribution System (M.E.D.S.) features a dual-layer, multi-density EPS liner that, in addition to preserving the lightweight, impact-absorbing characteristics of SHOEI’s traditional EPS systems, has been specially engineered to reduce rotational acceleration energy to the head in the event of an accident. Anchored by a larger center column, the inner layer of the dual-layer system swings during impact, allowing its three strategically-designed perimeter columns to absorb the energy. The end result is a significant reduction of rotational forces to the rider’s head without sacrificing an ounce of quality or performance.

DUAL-LAYER / MULTI-DENSITY EPS LINER In addition to absorbing and reducing rotational energy thanks to the all-new M.E.D.S. technology, the VFX-EVO’s dual-layer, multi-density EPS liner provides enhanced impact absorption by utilizing varying densities of foam in key area around the rider’s head. Channels between the EPS layers allow cooling air to travel unrestricted through the helmet, further enhancing the VFX-EVO’s superior ventilation characteristics. MULTI-PLY MATRIX AIM+ SHELL Proprietary technology integrates a multi-ply matrix specifically designed to meet both SNELL M2015 and DOT standards. Hand laid interwoven layers of fiberglass with lightweight organic fibers and high-performance fibers. SHOEI’s strongest, lightest, most elastic shell provides optimal impact absorption.

SHELL DESIGN Through a new state-of-the-art shell forming technology exclusive to SHOEI, the VFX-EVO incorporates the aerodynamic advantages of a spoiler into its shell, and consistent shell thickness guarantees the proper strength and weight of each and every helmet. V-470 VISOR The all-new V-470 visor has been specially designed to flow with the styling and funtionality of the VFX-EVO’s aggressive new shell shape. With a massive field of vision and optimal roost protection still top priorities, the V-470 has been engineered to utilize the highest point of adjustability as its standard “home” position. Though aligning seamlessly with the shape of the shell when at the highest point, the V-470 also features a new flange mechanism to easily find the home position (even while wearing the helmet), and also helps to prevent unexpected movement during aggressive off-road riding. Made of a high-grade polycarbonate, the V-470 screws are extremely durable, yet capable of sheering off in the event of an impact to help prevent unnecessary forces to the rider’s head.

3D MAX DRY INTERIOR SYSTEM The VFX-EVO is equipped with a fully removable, washable, replaceable, and adjustable 3D Max-Dry Interior System. HOW PHOTOCHROMICS WORK Photochromic technology allows visors to automatically and seamlessly change from clear to dark in sunlight. The process works when photochromic dyes embedded into the lens or shield react to UV light, changing levels of darkness with the sun. When UV light is removed, a chemical reaction driven by ambient heat reconverts the activated photochromic molecules to their original, clear form and the lens fades. The amount darkening is a function of the competition between the activating and fading chemical reactions, the equilibrium condition established between them, and the specific photochromic molecules and the lens substrate. The more activated photochromic molecules that are present, the darker a lens becomes. PRODUCT DETAILS AND UV PROTECTION Transitions® adaptive sunwear products have a range of light transmission levels, all optimized for the specific activity the product is designed for. Specifically, the SHOEI® Transitions® adaptive shield: • Non-activated — virtually clear • Activated — darkens to a 15% light transmission level at 72º Fahrenheit and 23º Celsius • Full activation in two minutes • Fades to 50% transmission in two minutes • Like all Transitions® products, the shield blocks 100% of UV rays

TEMPERATURE

Like all photochromic products, temperature can cause fluctuation in performance. UV rays activate the photochromic molecules through a photochemical process — this makes the shield darken. The fade back reaction is actually driven by heat — so in extremely hot temperatures, the photochromic molecules are actually fading back while they are activating — this prevents the shield from fully darkening. Transitions® lens technology is the most advanced in the industry, and is the least temperature sensitive, but there will be some performance variables depending on the temperature.

CREATED EXCLUSIVELY TO INTEGRATE WITH THE SHOEI NEOTEC II & GT-AIR II Optimal Integration Designed jointly by Sena and SHOEI, the SHOEI Rider Link (SRL) is a sleek and low profile communication system tailored specifically to the SHOEI NEOTEC II and the SRL2 for the GT-Air II. The SRL systems are virtually undetectable from the outside of the helmet, and function with a simple 3-button control, or via a Sena smartphone app. COMMUNICATION IS OUR GAME Connectivity Simplified A dual Bluetooth chip allows for up to 8 intercom connections as well as simultaneously listen to music and talking to other riders via Intercom using Audio Multitasking. When audio comes through the Intercom, music will automatically decrease in volume, and return to a normal volume when riders stop talking over the Intercom. Simply pair the SRL or SRL 2 with your smartphone to stream music, listen to GPS directions, and take and make phone calls.
