Thesis: In a year full of new lessons and different visions of the world; a quite influential day came when I entered to the realization I was no longer the little girl I portrayed to be in my head. I saw my cousin view the streets I grew up on as I once viewed. I saw the twinkle in her eyes that reflected innocence. Innocence that I longed to regain, innocence that allowed me to feel pure happiness without knowing the emotions of dull sorrow. As I watched my cousin in her blooming steps of complete and utterly enjoyment I started to foresee old memories. Memoires of compassion in every sight I saw, every thought that allowed me to create the most exzotic imaginations, to the eager reach of my fathers protection.

Body #1:
It was a luminous day where the slightest touch of a ray in the line of the sun could hug you from any direction. The air was sweet with the aroma of kettle corn to the bitter taste of salt from the crashing waves along the shore. On this day I was struck with the strong sensation of deja vu in a very real childhood sense. My cousin and myself were strolling down the main street of a family town called Springfield. The town that seemed to never change when everything else did, to revisit Springfield it was like I was revisiting childhood all on it's own. When in the moment of my hand holding his pinky in that my fingers were too small to intertwine with his, I felt as if I had a shield to protect me from any

Short Stories and Poetry There are many different forms of writing that all fall under the name literature. These different ways to create literature are often categorized into specific genres. Some of the genres have more in common with each other than others. Two genres, theshort story and the poem, share many similar aspects. Both the short story and the poem can successfully send powerful messages or tell complex stories in a very short amount of words. Both genres contain carefully manipulated language that quickly yet effectively establishes the meaning of the short story or poem. Point of view is a prominent aspect in controlling short stories and poetry. The works are thus often told in the first...show more content...

William Faulkner's "A Rose of Emily" (p. 443) begins immediately with a startling statement about Miss Emily's death. Faulkner creates a first sentence that describes how "our whole town went to her funeral" (1), using of course the first person form of "we" (28, 43, 46, etc...) The narrator is most likely one of the townspeople who represents the point of view of the entire town. Through the use of plural first person narration, the author makes the reader feel as if though they are part of the story, grasping his or her interest more quickly. Faulkner employs this first person narration in the first sentence of his story, thus immediately capturing the reader's attention. The reader's engagement in the story also adds to its emotionality. By feeling as though he or she is a part of the story, the reader often feels sadness, joy and other emotions with the characters of the story. When the townspeople were "surprised when Homer Barron...was gone" (46), the use of "we" (46) forces the reader to feel the same confusion and shock that the townspeople do. The first person helps to enrich the variability and appeal of the short story. This use of first person to strengthen the feeling of the

In today's world, there are many social issues, like poverty, vandalism and unemployment. However, prejudice has become the most dramatic one. Prejudging people for their appearance is a common practice that humans perform. People are not only ridiculed for their color, but also by their religion, sex or age. Therefore, I consider that racism, ageism and sexism are the three major problems in our society and we need to cease them immediately. Much of our world's history were based upon racism. In the 1600's, white men used Africans as slaves and treated them as they were not human. "Colored" people were not even allowed to use the same drinking fountains as white people. Fortunately, in the last threedecades , race...show more content...
The most popular watched sport in America, NBA basketball, is played by over 87% of the African decent. Nevertheless, racism is still a issue that will never completely go away. Ageism is also a worrying problem in our society. Though many people think that this is not a serious problem, people are being harassed about their age everyday, whether they are "too young" or "too old". I have dealt with this problem myself, as many other teenagers have. When I walk into some stores, I am asked to leave my purse at the counter and I am often followed around by employees. They watch every move I make to make sure that I will not steal anything. I know that theft is a dilemma that many businesses have to deal with , but when it gets to the point of being untrusted due to your age, it is completely ridiculous and inappropriate. Men and women have never been equal in the world and that is what we call sexism. For example, if a man and a woman who have the same knowledge ask for the same job, the boss will probably pick the man. Even though they both get the job, the man will maybe have a better salary than the woman. People always believe that men work better than women but no one can give a satisfying explication to support that thought. Fortunately, sexism is decreasing constantly but it will never diminish to the point of complete equality. We can never judge someone by their

English 101 has been such an adventure. I know that sounds corny, but I just couldn't help myself. When I decided to do a short–term English class, I thought it would be fun and challenging; My expectations were correct. I will list the challenges I experienced which creating the creative project, what I learned from the beginning of class to the end, and what I need to work on in the future. This English adventure started on post 1 and 2 and ended at the multi–modal project. When I first did post 1 and 2 ,I was excited because we were incorporating fallacies to our discussions. I previously learned more about fallacies and ethos, pathos, and logos from a previous communications course and I appreciated the review. I found that it was challenging to respond properly to posts created by other classmates. My initial response was always to support each and every classmate by telling them that they did an awesome job. I had trouble analyzing their work without agreeing with every claim. The multi model project brought tears to my eyes and I do not mean tears of joy. At first I loved my ideas and was excited about the outcome, but my stress and nervousness...show more content...

Why should anyone want to study English? Why not French or Spanish or even Mandarin Chinese? Is English so much more interesting than any other language? Why spend time studying a language and not mathematics or science? Well, there are some very good reasons for that.

At present, the world tries to take care of that problem by massively learning English as a second language, a choice that has its roots in the history of this language. "It's too late to be studying Hebrew; it is more important to understand even the slang of today." Since the end of World War II, English has been taught at most West–European schools, even at most schools in the world. English is predestined to be the international language par excellence.
Communication has never been more important to the world than it is now. Just think of the Internet. When you surf the Internet you immediately notice that the main language is English. Again we can see the influence of English in the world. Today, already half of the Europeans use English as their first or second language. "English has borrowed from everywhere and now goes everywhere." English may not be the language with the highest number of speakers in the world, but it is definitely the most important. You can reach a lot of people when you are able to communicate in English. If you like to go working abroad, learning English is a very good preparation. There are so many large countries where English is the official language, just think of Great Britain, Ireland, America, Canada... Even in our daily routine, English is all around. It already starts when you switch on your PC and meet with English `commands, prompts, errors and messages' – the new type of computer slang. English is
For me, learning a language is a complicated process. It is different from learning other subjects. It involves a lot of practices and follow up. When I talk about my personal experience, I would say that I have a rich experience in learning English as a second language. English was taught to me for ten years starting from grade seven till graduation from university. After graduation, I felt that I should improve my language skills. Therefore, I did a lot of efforts personally to increase my fluency. Until now I still learn the language. Indeed, learning a language takes a lifetime.
I started learning English as a second language when I was in first intermediate. I still remember my first classes and my first teachers. I remember that my teachers changed frequently in the first year but all of them have much in common. All of them used grammar translation method. They used to write bilingual lists of words on board, then we, as students, were asked to copy these lists and memorize them by heart. All teaching concentrated on reading and writing skills, but there were no activities concentrating on speaking or listening. In addition, grammar rules were taught in that stage of learning the language as mathematics equations, and we were asked to memorize the rules as we...show more content...

Most people would probably just say "No", but I have real problems with saying "No" and more often than not half my food is devoured by these hungry beasts.
Once break is finished I work until the real lunch time and then I hang around the common room or go to the library and do
A.Introduction

It is not uncommon to say that grammar instruction plays an important role in language teaching. Regarding the status and importance of grammar teaching, a variety of opinions have been made. Batstone (1994) states that "language without grammar would be chaotic: countless words without the indispensable guidelines for how they can be ordered and modified" (p. 4). More vividly, Wang (2010) makes two similes. She compares grammar to the frame of a house, which is a decisive factor to ensure the solidness of it. Additionally, she regards grammar as a walking stick, whose function is to help and support students to learn English. Thus, the nature of grammar instruction manifests its own significance as it helps students...show more content...

B.Evaluation of Miss Wong'sTeachingApproach
B(1). Teaching philosophy
It is teachers' beliefs rather than their knowledge that have a greater influence on their instruction (William & Burden, 2000). Meighan suggests seven kinks of teachers' beliefs about learners: resisters, receptacles, raw materials, clients, partners, individual explorers and democratic explorers. Unlike the first three concepts which focus on teachers, the last four require learners' active involvement (as cited in William & Burden, 2000). In Miss Wong's teaching approach, a PPP model (i.e., Presentation, Practice and Production) is generally adopted. She firstly presents target grammatical structure of passive voice. Then students do some exercises along with teacher's answer checking. However, it seems the final production step is omitted, resulting in students' lacking opportunities to apply the knowledge into other contexts. From her instruction, we can see Miss Wong tends to regard her students as receptacles that are required to absorb the items she transmits. What the instruction concerns is whether students can transform sentences from active to passive or vice verse from a structural level, which is a typical example of a
My Writing Experiences My experiences in writing have been minimal. I have only learned the basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things like that. Since I have been taking college English, I can tell my writing has improved a lot. My goals are to write papers and not have to reassure myself that maybe I need to do more research or have more data or even have to rethink my whole topic over. I would love to have the knowledge to be a tutor someday and teach other people how to properly write papers, paragraphs, essays, and maybe even books. To have excellent skills in writing will definitely be a great advantage in my nursing profession. In nursing, I will have to do lots of charting on my patients. Until the 18th Century, the main crop in France was wheat. This was because people mainly ate bread, and very little meat, if any, was eaten. The End of the Road
It all started to go downhill when my boyfriend started speaking to another girl behind my back, sending text messages and meeting up with her for a 'chat' as he used to say. After Daniel's death I didn't leave my room for about a week, I didn't want to face the world, I didn't want to talk to anyone, I just wanted to be alone with my thoughts. For a long time, one thing had always been the same: my love for English. It had always been a flame burning within me, something that could never be completely distinguished. I've had my share of both good and bad English teachers, from both I have gained important

To my seventh grade English teacher:
Thank you. At the time, I despised all the activities you made my class do. I despised the months we spent going over commas. I despised the books we were forced to read. Little did I know how many of these thing would be used in the future.
I am now an expert in the usage of the comma. Those months spent doing comma practices at the start of the class finally paid off. I appreciate Shakespeare in a way I would never have if it wasn't for you. I remember struggling through A Midsummer Night's Dream as the thought of giving up swam through my head. At the end of the book, you had us divide into groups and act out scenes. Surprisingly, I had a great deal of fun. Everyone went full out with costumes and props. I also understand symbolism and have learned how to persevere through particularly mundane books. We read Animal Farm in that class. The fact that a story about farm animals could stand for real life effects blew my mind. Additionally, for every paper of mine you 'lost' and that I would later find right where it was supposed to be, I learned to be more assertive.
My love for English stopped twirling in the breeze and, for the first time, began to flicker.
Most people grow up dreaming about becoming an actor, singer, or a professional athlete. They want to be famous, for people to know their name, and they also probably want to make a large amount of money. While getting into one of those professions is slim to none, there is a career that can offer some of the same exciting opportunities. A graphic designer is an interesting job because it allows creativity and artistry, combines designing with business and marketing, and gives an opportunity to become well–known in the field. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has confirmed that this type of work in the graphic design world has been becoming increasingly popular by stating that in 2010, about thirty percent of all graphic designers were self–employed (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics). As with all jobs, free–lancing does have its advantages as disadvantages. An advantage is that free–lancers have an opportunity that most other graphic designers do not, and that is to make an incredible amount of money if they create an extraordinary piece of art. They do not have to share their money with anyone if they make a good sale. (Gordon). Another advantage is that there is no one telling them what they have to create, no one is holding them back from their possible success. They are in charge of their own reputation, may it be good or bad (Gordon). A disadvantage is that there can be long stretches of time where business cannot be found, and that can cause some free–lancers to have to work more than one job (Gordon). Free Lance is very risky and most people prefer a job with a guaranteed, steady, income than the insecurity of free–lance (Gordon). Whether working on one's own, or involved with a business, it is very important to have the proper experience before setting out for a job. Art classes would be a good

My Experience throughout English 101
As writers, many students write to the expectations of their professors and not to their fullest potential. Throughout English 101 I had been writing only to please my professor or to fill the basic requirement to pass English. I always felt that my writing ability was never enough for my professors throughout the previous years. They always wanted clear and concise essays, which for some reason was unreachable by me. However, starting college and taking English 101 helped me with my weaknesses and changed my technique of writing essays. My experience in English 101 taught me to write to my fullest potential and to write what I felt; rather then writing what was required.

Also, by revising my essays I felt that I had the chance of writing with a broader sense.
Another weakness that I had coming into English 101 was my way of reading. I remember having to read an essay or book 3 or 4 times before I could ever sit down and write about it. I was looking and at the words all wrong. However, my professor introduced a technique of reading critically. "A critical analysis, on the other hand, takes a viewpoint and attempts to its validity;" (Trimble, 95) In Trimble's quote he is trying say that a critical analysis helps a reader understand what the author is really trying to point out. This was the same approach that was taught to me by my professor. This type of analysis helped me understand better what the author was trying to convey and it also helped me explain it better in my essays.
Additionally, another weakness that I had when coming into English 101 was that I was a selfish writer. Like Trimble said, "His natural tendency as a writer is to think primarily of himself– hence to write primarily for himself." (Trimble, 4) I was a writer who only cared about impressing one type of audience my professor and not writing to prove a point or expand my knowledge to several other audiences.
