feeding the future PROSPECTIVE BUILDING EXPANSION GLYNN COUNTY
HELPENDHUNGER.ORG
STATEMENT Hunger is a real issue in our nation, our state and in Coastal Georgia. There are more than 40 million people in the United States that struggle with food insecurity, 1.5 million in the state of Georgia and 175,540 right here in Coastal Georgia. We work diligently to feed the hungry by distributing nutritious food to non-profit agencies and at-risk elderly and youth. Our programs include Brown Bag for the Elderly, Grace’s Kitchen, Kids Cafe, Mobile Food Pantry, and Partner Marketplace Distribution. These programs are designed to provide hunger relief to those most vulnerable. In Glynn County alone, we have partnered with 38 non-profit agencies. We have provided the food for 880 weekly backpacks and more than 1,570,100 meals in 2020. Utilizing IRS regulations, the value of the food provided to food insecure families is $2,590,666. Expanding our Brunswick facility would allow us to provide food assistance to even more of those in need in Glynn County. Your partnership in our “Feeding the Future” campaign will enable America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia to feed people, build community and create the possibility for thousands to live meaningful lives, out from the shadow of hunger and food insecurity.

proposed plan
The proposed $4 million plan would allow us to purchase a new, 53,000 square foot facility equipped with loading docks. We would also be able to outfit this space with a new Kids Cafe Kitchen and Volunteer Center. These new additions and space will allow us to increase our capacity to serve more of those in need in Glynn County.
NEW FACILITY
KIDS CAFE KITCHEN
A larger property has been identified for purchase that will increase our facility space to 53,000 square feet. The property is already equipped with adequate loading docks for our trucks and large rig deliveries.
A kitchen will need to be built, which will allow for nutritious Kids Cafe meals to be prepared and packed for delivery to children at risk for hunger. This kitchen facility will include new coolers & freezers to increase capacity.
VOLUNTEER CENTER The warehouse will be outfitted with a Volunteer Center in order to invite the public into our space and allow groups of all sizes to assist in daily activities such as sorting food donations and packing emergency food boxes.
EQUIPMENT Transitional costs will include purchasing new equipment, such as pallet racking, forklifts, pallet jacks, pallet wrapping machines, and scales for the new warehouse.
REFRIGERATION New coolers and freezers will be added in order to increase our capacity to receive and store fresh, perishable, and frozen foods.
