the byzantine empire

The Byzantine had conquered all the land, They had been victorious at the start, The more land conquered the weaker they stand, Creating a country that falls apart. Justinian; a smart and proactive man, Once an emperor of the doomed kingdom, Created a program for land to span, Making the country a lot more fearsome. As time flew by, the country grew diverse, With vast land, the empire had grown more weak, With Huns attacking, the kingdom got worse, Invaded, they fell before they could speak. Although, the Byzantine fall was not in vain Now we do not have to suffer their pain.

Two borders separated and incensed Religion, the thing that begun it all Also people screaming the law is bent Who was right, Orthodox or Catholic They both believed in something different Catholics believed in the vatican And now the law that was insufficient Although it had its failure there was wins For instance civil and criminal laws So sing about it, maybe violins It was a great state but it had its fall A kingdom from greatness to broken walls

The old great prophet named Muhammad dies There is no heir to lead the Islam Empire We have to get through this period of cries Our nation has certain things to require The biggest prospect is his own father in law Then he takes his a new role with three others He is prepared with his caliphs that saw, The Qu’ran differently than the other brothers The three brothers split the muslims in two The Sunni muslims become really strict Though the Shi’ite worship like Sunni do And they all have read the same exact script Islamic people are judged as one whole It is awful and it affects their soul

Muhammad was a prophet of the god Allah. Claiming he had heard the voice of god, he founded Islam. Although, years after his death, the Islamic religion had split. With now two opposing types; the Sunni and the Shia. The Sunni know to be more strict on precedents, and is much larger than the Shia.

New group in large numbers after helping farmer Muhammad find “his lamb”

A new group has risen in our city of Mecca, and it looks like most of us want in. This group, going under “his lamb”, claims they have followed a farmer, now deceased, named Muhammad in the name of “his lamb”. We scored an exclusive interview with Abu Bakr, Muhammad’s father in law, and successor through inheritance of Muhammad’s lamb. H : Shouldn’t you guys call yourselves “his sheep” now that Muhammad’s lamb is all grown up? A : According to the first pillar, “his lamb” is immortal. H : What makes his lamb so special? A : His lamb is special because Muhammad was visited by Allah himself, who gave Muhammed his lamb. H : Who is Allah? A : Allah is the person his lamb worships. H : How does his lamb worship?

10

A : We pray five times a day for a short while for a special connection with god. As you can see, we have one freaky young sheep on our hands. We asked the local followers of “his lamb” where Muhammad’s lamb was, and, with a confused look on their faces, they pointed to themselves. When we asked the question once again, they smirked and pointed us out to a stock of lambs, and told us to take our choice. We picked a lamb that looked a little brighter than the others, one that they might idolize. H : What do you think about war? L : Baaaaaaaaaaad. H : How do you plan on expanding your followers? At this point, the lamb started munching on some nearby grass. We tried one more question. H : What do you think about the Roman Christian Army, which is fighting for religion? We saw the lamb suddenly buck and roll around in the mud. The handlers told us to finish the interview, so we left back to our office at this point. But as for this new group, pure insanity, or pure genius, no one knows. All we know now is to watch “his lamb” and see what happens next!

Charlemagne

13

He shows no fear, he shows no mercy. The infamous ruler, Charlemagne, was killed from an inflammation of the tissues lining the lung and chest cavities. Charlemagne was known as the mightiest ruler in all of Western Europe! He fought off the Pagans, Saracens of Spain, and the mighty Saxons! He showed no mercy in these battles. In fact, Einhard, the the King's secretary wrote that with little hesitation the ruler rounded up 4,500 rebellious leaders of the Saxon’s and decapitated them within one day! Not only was he the the mightiest, but he had carried a lot of wisdom in that head of his. Charlemagne is known for his support for education. The Holy Roman Emperor even created schools to educate children of royal officials to work in church or palaces. These schools taught many subjects, such as; mathematics, grammar, and even logic. He strongly favors education, that he even uses the loot/money he obtains from other raids to pay scholars to work in the schools. There was a rumor that he even kept a writing journal under his pillow, to practice writing! Not sure if you’ve noticed, but there has been a spread of music around our nation. If you live in areas on the borders of this Frankish Nation, you may have been hearing an increase in music. This is because our ruler, Charlemagne, wanted to make you feel apart of our nation! He

stated that he wants to encourage the spread of the central culture into areas far out in the empire. As a result, he has sent minstrels to wonder manor to manor performing songs. His reasoning is because he feels it will make the people that live away from central Carolingian feel as if they are also a part of the empire. His actions had even shown to result in a more united empire! Sadly, with the great holy emperor’s death, we now face a terrible conflict. Charlemagne has three sons with the potential to rule over the kingdom, but none of the three have stepped down to let one of them take reign. As a result, it was decided that the Carolingian Empire is going to be divided into three kingdoms. His younger son, Charles the Younger, getting reign over Neustria, the eldest son, King Louis, the Pious, earning Aquitaine, and the second son, King Pepin, who gained Italy. Skeptics state that the outcome of this separation will not lead to a healthy empire. They also state they predict the fall of the empires in the reign of the new Kings. In fact, they believe that this division could possibly lead to potential civil wars/disputes between the three brothers. Sadly, that means that with the mightiest emperor’s fall only comes the fall of his own kingdom.

The Black Death

16

To Whom It May Concern, Today is December 21, 1349 I found out my father had caught the plague. He has been coughing and spitting, what my mother has said to be his own lungs. Everyone who has died so far has died within a day or two of showing symptoms. Everyone who has tried to care for the ill has eventually caught the plague themselves. When we found out about my father's condition he came straight to our house and just collapsed to the floor. I knew the rest of my family and I have a great chance getting ill. My mother tried to stop him from reaching our house and getting close to my sister and I. To think that we were going to try to move away any because the living conditions are unbearable. There are dead bodies everywhere in the town, the smell has become very foul, and people have started to lock themselves in their houses. So I am writing this letter to leave a legacy for my family and communicate how powerful this disease is. From, Edward Smith 17

November

1, 1348, Port of Sicilian, Messina

This is the first time in a long time that I have written in this stupid diary but my mother says I have to because my Father is getting sick and she wants me to record it. I'm getting kind of scared, he came from the docks coughing yesterday and every hour it is getting stronger and stronger. This morning my father could not even stand. My mother said he’s alright but to stay away from him. At this very moment he’s laying down in his bed and my mother is attending to him. For some reason the kids are not coming outside and there is less people in the streets and when there is, they are covered and sheets and walking fast. In the other room beside me my little sister has started coughing. I hope she gets sick too so that I don’t have to get close to her. My mom just went to the market to buy some fish and bread so it’s the perfect time to talk to my father without no 18

interruptions. I just came back from the living room and he’s breathing so heavily it’s like I can hear his lungs and he’s bleeding from his nose, I guess my mother will clean that up when she get’s back, I told him he’s going to be alright and he said he knows. My mother is picking the scales off the fish right now and she looks real pale, Hopefully she doesn’t get sick. Go to your room and lock your door is what my mom just told me, she ran towards my father and he’s bleeding from his mouth. Unidentified Date I’m starting to look like my dad, and I my hands feel almost too weak to write. Goodbye.

I looked for the murderer, hiding in sight, I searched for the sign that he was attacking, so many locations have I searched tonight, but never once have I heard anything hacking. I felt in my body, pain caused by a stab, I reached over, there was only a red, shiny flood I traveled from Sicily to Paris, then I was drab, for the only thing that would end life was blood. I felt my knees buckle, weak with some pain, I asked for the water, water a flavour I craved, I had my comrades leave, it was their gain, because from lethal pain in sight, they were saved. I felt the plague take over, as I did myself in, but as my comrades corralled me, they took in my sin.
