Hi From Far!
18 22 1
Salutations! My name is Emerald Cloud, I am 21 years of age, a wife of a wonderful man, and an excited mother to be. My origin is of Philippine descent, but I reside in sin city Las Vegas. I enjoy the finer things in life such as, the air I breathe, the people I surround myself with, and the healing power of laughter. Although I am not one to be bound by religion, I do have many beliefs. I believe that many religions are flawed and supported by a lot of contradicting and selfish souls, I believe in the secret, which for all of you that aren’t too familiar with it, is the law of attraction. That everything in your universe derives from the positive or negative state of your thoughts, which builds a chain reaction of events that make up what happens in your life. I believe that money is the root of all evil, and that there are no excuses, just punishments for those who make excuses. I have gone through a lot in my years of living so far, but then again, haven’t we all? I’ve witnessed the cruelest of unfortunate events, from rape to murder, from feeding my addictions to degrading myself for money, from self discovery to self mutilation. All of these things bare memories of all kinds, and I treasure them because they are what makes me stand strong here with you today, they are the stepping stones in my abundant journey and I wear my scars with pride! I feel that this crazy beautiful world has taught me many lessons and forced me to do a lot of growing up at a young age. I was once a wild untamable spirit, who now has grown domesticated and settled with my life, but do not underestimate my fiery soul, because it never burns out. I am very grateful for many things in my life, one of which is to be well and alive and here with you today to tell my story, and share my wisdom. My ultimate goal as a HempStar, is to be bold, explore my limits of self expression, and to spread the word of truth, in all its forms to you readers, and hopefully become your muse.
Yours truly, Emerald Cloud 4
Josie Dee About Me I grew up on Long Island and now live in Colorado. I guess you could say I’m an East coast girl that became a Mountain girl. Living in New York I spent many summers traveling the USA on the back of a Harley Davidson. Many of those summers were exploring the West and it was on one of those bike trips that I fell in love with the Colorado Rockies and after a twist of fate I eventually moved here.
I began my career in Corporate America while pursuing a degree in Nutritional Sciences. Upon graduation I quit corporate America to start my own business as Executive Director of a Holistic Wellness center. In addition to nutritional counseling I taught classes on Nutrition, Health and Wellness and Metaphysics, as well as writer and editor of a successful sixteen-page newsletter. During that time I also became a Reiki Master/Teacher, began seeing auras (both of these involve our energy fields) and devoted my life to my spiritual path that includes sharing with others what I’ve learned. After years of teaching I sold my interest in the center and pursued my passion for photography that later evolved into digital art. After having a successful blog for two years in “Art and Photography” in which I remained number one, I was convinced by my fans to put my art “out there.” Two of my pieces ”Butterfly Effect” and “Angelic Reflection” recently won awards at www.guestsgallery.com for their “2009 Work of The Year” and their 2010 International Realism contest. I have also licensed one of my pieces for a book cover, and I am in the process of constructing my website to sell my art on-line and locally. Oh, you will also find my art in this and the previous issue of HempStar magazine. I am happily married living in the foothills of the Rockies on a huge mountain creek with my husband of twenty-fours years and our seven cats. Yes, seven! Most of them found us and not the other way around! I love animals, I love people (well, most of them), I love and enjoy the beauty of nature, and I hate injustices. That’s what makes me an activist. I’m a political activist first because that is where voices can be heard that introduce or affect laws and create change. I’m also an activist for animal rights, the environment, food safety, human, social and, civil rights, world peace – well, you get the idea. I am happy to be writing for HempStar and to share my knowledge of Metaphysics, Health and Nutrition, and to raise awareness to the critical issues our society is facing today. Oh, one more thing you should know about me – “I HATE CORPORATE AMERICA!” You can contact me at JosieDee@comcast.net

eing a mommy is just the most amazing thing in the world. It is having the feeling of utter attachment at the very same time as the need for independence. It is the feeling of most extreme and deep love as well as the highest point of overwhelming anger. It is all beautiful. It is absolutely inspiring and the most highly educational and learning experience. Observing and participating--first-hand--- in the life and development of a whole new human being, a blank disk, a clean canvas to be filled with conditioning, experiences, emotions, memories, opinions, and much more! I believe as a mom, you learn a great deal more than you teach; not only about your new human being, but even more about yourself. The whole process of pregnancy is absolutely enriching, joyful, anxious, and for some women, painful. A lot of women are blessed to have absolutely perfect pregnancies; no nausea, no aches and pains, no infections, a short/easy labor, no discomforts. But some women, on the other hand, have very uncomfortable pregnancies; kidney infections, extreme nausea/vomiting, extreme cramps and lower back pains, aching joints, sore nipples, etc. It was only throughout and after pregnancy that I started to truly know my own body, as well as a more holistic way of living. It was no longer just about me. Regardless of how a pregnancy goes, it is, for everyone, a great learning process, and a time for vast preparations; mental, physical, and financial (Oh yeah, that’s where it gets us!). But if you are like me, then you know money is NOT the most important and necessary thing for a new baby. Like I always say; all babies need is love and breast milk, the rest you can find on craigslist! Yes, that’s right; I can’t remember a time that I bought something brand new for my son (Ok, so maybe I bought one or two BPA free toys). But everything else he owns is second-hand. Go recycling!

I love being a mommy, but even better, I love being a green mom! This column is going to be here every issue so I can share with you my green mommy knowledge of economically living green in this busy world. I can’t wait to share with you! And if you have any comments, complaints, suggestions, or tips that you’d like to share as well; please email them to me at lotusblossom@hempstarmagazine.com. I’d love to hear from you!

H
ow’s the world looking to you lately? For me it’s looking pretty scary - the scariest I’ve
seen in my lifetime. I grew up in the late 60’s/early 70’s and while they were turbulent times the problems we are facing in our world today are far more catastrophic. We are at a tipping point in our society where our individual choices and actions can have a profound effect on future generations and the future of the planet. There is so much that is out of balance in our world that many people are feeling a sense of hopelessness, that things are spiraling downhill and out of control. The following is a brief list of the issues our society is facing today that concerns us all: •Two Wars •World Terrorism •World Unrest •Nuclear War •Government Corruption •Wall Street Corruption, Bailouts, Lobbyists •Corporate Takeover of World Governments
8
•Loss of Jobs •Economic Insecurity •Racism, Violence, Hate Speech, Religious Extremism •Immigration •Disappearance of the Middle Class
•Increasing Poverty and Homelessness •The Divide of Americans by Political Parties •Legalization of Marijuana
•Rampant Greed •Broken Government •Overpopulation •Environmental Deterioration •Climate Change •Animal Rights •Civil and Gay Rights •Infrastructure Deterioration •Depleting Resources •Food Safety
Wow! That IS a bit scary (except for the legalization of marijuana) AND overwhelming. It’s no wonder people feel powerless to be able to affect change. So what do we do? We become activists! Activism can be defined as intentional action to bring about political or social change. To be an activist is to believe in change and believe that our individual choices and actions have the power and ability to make positive changes or to avert catastrophe. For me as well as many others, it’s a reaction to injustices that inspires motivation for creating change. Activism embodies not only changing the world but by also changing ourselves. The more positive changes we make within our own lives, the more it will reflect to the outer world. We need to alter our daily habits and by doing this not only will we be doing our part to promote positive change, but we will also be setting an example for others to follow. The first steps in becoming an activist are: •Become aware of the problem/issue. •How are we as individuals part of the problem? •How can each of us be part of the solution? If we want to consider ourselves responsible individuals, we need to get out there and “Do Something.” We need to help others that are “Doing Something.” Look at the list. Which problem stirs up the most emotion in you? What injustice really pisses you off? Which one (s) are directly affecting your life right now? Most people don’t become activists until it affects them personally. Whatever problems/issues you are concerned about, there is something you can do. If every individual found one thing that they could do that would make a difference society would turn around. There is no right or wrong way in being an activist, it’s as simple as ‘getting involved.” We need to stop waiting for someone else to do something and become catalysts for the change we want to see. Activism had its roots in the sixties and I believe that the sixties activism worked and that our actions made a difference and that we affected history. Many of us “original” hippies are still around working to finish what we started and are hopeful that the younger generations will bring back the counter-culture movement and take up where we left off.
Next Issue- Genetically Engineered Food – Monsanto the real evil empire. Note: The problems we are facing today are directly related to the evolution/transformation of Humankind and the planet – but that’s for another article.

This is the first of a regular column of HempStar magazine focusing on important issues/problems of our time. Its purpose is to raise awareness and hopefully motivate people into taking action. Each column will focus on one specific issue/problem that directly or indirectly affect our lives and provide information needed to create the changes we want to see.

Letter to the Readers So I just want to say how greatly disappointed I am at our fellow medical marijuana patients and their responsibility (or should I say irresponsibility) about their meds around their children. Not all of you, of course. But I could not count on my fingers how many cases I have recently heard of parents that have used their medicine irresponsibly around their children, or that have had their children removed from their homes by their local CPS for not complying with the law. Fact is, parents aren’t even supposed to medicate in the presence of their children. But how fair is this for single parents with chronic conditions? How fair is this for any patient that can’t find a babysitter every time they medicate? Well, in order for the CPS to actually come into your home and remove your children from your custody, there has to be a reason beyond simply medicating. There has to be a case involving abuse and/or neglect. As Medical Marijuana patients, we have to make sure we are covering ourselves all around by simply complying with our local laws (and common sense, too). First of all, let’s make sure our paperwork is always up to date. Next, let’s not leave our medicine lying around in the reach of our children!!! Let me say that again; DO NOT LEAVE YOUR MEDICINE LYING AROUND IN THE REACH OF YOUR CHILDREN! Treat it as any other prescription; oxycontin, vicodin, xanax, etc. Put it away, locked in a cabinet. We just happen to have the privilege of buying the tastiest treats at dispensaries such as cookies, cake, rice crispy treats, lollypops, brownies and much more! Do our children know the difference between medicated treats and regular treats? No, they don’t. I was extremely upset to hear about the case of the couple here in Commerce City, Colorado, whose ten month old toddler had to be hospitalized due to their irresponsibility in using and storing their meds. Now this couple had thirty plants growing in a shed illegally and not in compliance with Amendment 20.
14
They also, apparently, aren’t careful about where they leave the edibles they make; the child ingested some medicated trail mix and ended up having to be hospitalized for a THC overdose. Another case; a ten year old boy shot himself in the foot while guarding his father’s grow. His father left him alone with a gun to protect himself or his grow (as assumed). This boy got scared by something and shot himself in the foot. All of this enrages me. Is it fair for a few irresponsible people to ruin the rights of those who are actually practicing things in a legal, responsible manner? No, it’s not. I, along with many friends of mine are legal MMJ patients as well as parents. We try our very best, and succeed at it, to use and store our medicine in the most responsible and safe manner with our children’s safety in highest regard. We should be thankful, that now that Marijuana is legal, we don’t have to put ourselves at risk to obtain our medicine, by breaking the law and buying from street dealers, doing illegal transactions, illegally possessing something we are not supposed to have. Let’s enjoy this amazing freedom we have of going to a dispensary, legally picking what strain works best for our pain, legally carrying our medicine without any paranoia, or fear of being caught, legally medicating in the safety of our own homes without worrying about doing something illegal with our children in the house, etc By complying with Amendment 20, we are showing the government that we are capable of being responsible. How do we ever intend on ending prohibition and the war on drugs if we can’t even handle a little Marijuana? This looks bad, real bad. Now, the police expect to see many more children hurt themselves. They are already further investigating about 23 more cases of child abuse as well as illegal grows. C’mon people, seriously, don’t ruin it for the rest of us. We are trying real hard to keep Marijuana at its fair legality as it is, and maybe even advance with time to further freedoms, but we will never be able to achieve those freedoms if we don’t show that we deserve them, that we can handle them responsibly. So join the movement, and be a responsible parent, a responsible grower, and a responsible patient. But most important of all, a responsible human being. Lotus

ABOUT JESSICA SIMPSON’S NEW “REALITY” SHOW THE PRICE OF BEAUTY ESSICA IS A DUMB, VAPID GIRL THAT DOESN'T CARE ABOUT INNER BEAUTY. SHE JUST THINKS THAT BECAUSE SHE’S GAINED A LITTLE WEIGHT IN THE PAST SHE CAN AUTOMATICALLY SAY "OMG I'M JUST LIKE THE REST OF YOU" AND IMMEDIATELY GAINS THE RIGHT TO MAKE A TV SHOW ABOUT HOW SHE "UNDERSTANDS" HOW INNER BEAUTY IS MORE IMPORTANT TO HER WHEN SHE ALONG WITH MANY OTHER CELEBRITIES ARE THE REASON WHY WOMEN AND MEN HERE IN OUR HOME HAVE TO FIGHT FOR THEIR RIGHTS TO BE PASSED AS BEAUTIFUL TOO! I MEAN, HOW CAN SOMEONE WHO HAS A PERSONAL ENTOURAGE OF BEAUTY EXPERTISE REALLY SAY SHE CARES? I HAVE ONE WORD FOR YOU MY FRIEND: RATINGS! DO NOT FALL FOR THE FACADE THAT PEOPLE SO DESPERATELY OBSESS OVER! WE ARE BEAUTIFUL IN ALL SHAPES, SIZES, AND COLORS, AND THAT VALUE IS LIFE ITSELF AND NOT A CAMPAIGN!

ON A MORE SENTIMENTAL NOTE, BEAUTY SHOULD NEVER BE MEASURED BY YOUR WAIST LINE, NOR BY THE SIZE OF YOUR WALLET, BECAUSE BEAUTY HAS NO COST OR WEIGHT, IT IS SOMETHING OF A MUCH MORE VALUABLE MEASUREMENT: THE SIZE OF YOUR HEART. YES, I KNOW WHAT YOU’RE THINKING, “WOW HOW CLICHÉ” WELL IN MY EYES, A PURE HEART AND KIND GESTURES ARE WHAT MAKES US BEAUTIFUL HUMAN BEINGS. IT SHOULD NEVER MATTER HOW MUCH MAKE UP YOU APPLY, OR HOW LONG IT TAKES YOU TO DAMAGE YOUR HAIR EVERYDAY, OR HOW MUCH CLOSER YOU ARE TO GETTING THAT SKELETOR PHYSIQUE THAT EVERYONE RAVES OVER, COME ON PEOPLE WAKE UP! I MEAN, DO YOU REALLY WANNA RISK YOUR HEALTH AND BECOME THAT MUCH CLOSER TO DEATH, JUST SO THAT SHALLOW CRUSH OF YOURS CAN SPARE ONE LOOK AT YOU? I HOPE YOU’RE ALL SMARTER THAN THAT! BEAUTY IS EVERYWHERE, NOT JUST IN US INDIVIDUALLY, BUT IN THE WORLD AROUND US. IT’S IN THE SIMPLEST THINGS THAT WE ALWAYS OVERLOOK, THE CALM WARM SUMMER BREEZE, THE TRANQUIL STILL POND IN OUR LOCAL PARKS, IT’S IN THE WAY THE SUN RISES AND KISSES YOUR FACE IN THE MORNING, IT’S IN HOW GRACEFULLY THE RAIN FALLS ON YOUR WINDOW PANE WHILE IT LULLS YOU TO SLEEP IN THE LATE EVENING , AND IT’S IN THE SMILE OF EVERY STRANGER YOU PASS ON THE SIDEWALK. THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT REALLY SHOULD PROMOTE TRUE BEAUTY, NOT THOSE HANDKERCHIEF, JADED STATUES THAT EVERYONE SO MINDLESSLY OBSSES OVER! SO I SAY TO YOU JESSICA SIMPSON, “DROP YOUR SUPERFICIAL SHOPPING SPREE, BECAUSE THERE IS NO PRICE FOR BEAUTY!”

Don’t Throw Away That Old Food… Learn to Recycle!
So you look in the fridge for the tenth time wondering what you should do with that old pot of vegetables or pasta/rice. Or you have just discovered it all the way in the back of the fridge. It’s been there for a week. You don’t want to throw it out, but you really don’t feel like eating it either. Ah! The guilt. Well, I have a solution for you, whether you have meat, vegetables, or an old lasagna, you can recycle it into a tasty soufflé by taking these easy steps!
You Will Need Your Old Food 2 Eggs (depending on amount of food) Milk Butter Cheese Whole Wheat Flour (or regular flour) A Glass Pyrex or Oven Dish A Blender
20
Steps
1 Please inspect your old cooked food thoroughly, making sure there is no mold, and no rancid or sour smell. I can’t stress this enough, we want to recycle, but we don’t want you to get sick, so please take the cautionary steps necessary. The shelf life for most refrigerated foods is between 7-14 days depending on various factors; the temperature of your fridge, whether you stuck the spoon/fork with your saliva back in the pot/pan, and what it is that’s being refrigerated among other factors. So check it out and use your best judgment, carefully inspecting its color, texture, and smell. If your food passes the safety inspection, then you can proceed to Step 2!
2 Preset your oven to 350 degrees. that you’ve made sure this 3 Now old food is edible, go ahead and dump all of it in a blender.
4
5
Add the other ingredients according to the amount of food you put in there. You will want to add 2 eggs, 1-2 tablespoons of butter (depends on the amount of food), 1-2 tablespoons of whole wheat flour, 1-2 cups of milk (according to the amount of food; too much will make it too soft), and a cup of shredded cheese. Blend on high if you want the texture to come out softer and mushier, blend low if you want it to be creamier.
butter your glass or metal 6 Now container all around the inside so that the food won’t stick while cooking. all of it in the container evenly, 7 Pour making sure it is not too full. Spread 1-2 cups of cheese on top of the mixture to your taste, do you like it super cheesy or not so cheesy?
in the middle 8 Put of center rack in your oven and set a timer for 25 minutes.
9 After 25 minutes take a look at it. If the cheese on top looks very gold/crispy and it smells very good, stick a fork in the middle. If the fork comes out clean, it is ready to go. If not, set another timer for 10 more minutes and repeat the previous procedure (with the fork).
Enjoy! Lotus Blossom

In this issue we have an inspirational artist who submitted his work all the way from Nigeria! He is a 23 year old business student who has always had an eye for art, in fact he stated that he is the first artist in all of his family’s history. “When I was young, that is when my mother and the entire family know that I am bless with Art, I have this natural gift from above and as I am telling you now, I am the only Artist from my relation according to my mother, from history.''

Najeem told us that he had lived in somewhat of a “ghetto” but that he and his family manage. They eat a variety of foods such as rice and beans and also eba which is made from cassava, and amala made from yam, as well as other foods he could not describe to me. “I am not from a silver spoon family, but I believe is my talent will not go astray and it shall speak for me Someday!”
I found Najeem’s art and motivation to be inspiring, so inspiring that I and my Editor-inChief have decided to begin a search for a curator who would like to help Najeem bring his astonishing art to America. T
he word Metaphysics is actually a combination of two words, Meta, the Greek word meaning beyond, and physics, the study of energy and matter. Metaphysics is the study of energy and matter beyond the physical plane to other dimensions. It is a spiritual belief system that combines theology, philosophy, and science that focuses on the individual’s self-awareness. It is the branch of philosophy that deals with the nature of existence, truth and knowledge. It is a way to interpret life, understand our spirituality and our relationship with God and each other.
26
Metaphysics closely follow the Eastern religions but are actually the essence of all the world’s spiritual teachings. It incorporates the Buddhist and Hindu concept of reincarnation and karma, and their understanding of life force energy
(prana, chi), Universal brotherhood; Kabbalah’s ancient teachings, Native American practices, and Christianity’s concept of the Trinity. The three important principles of reincarnation, karma and universal brotherhood that underlie this belief system explain many of the mysteries of life and death. It gives us a greater understanding of ourselves, our interconnectedness to everyone and everything, and our soul’s purpose for this lifetime. Theosophy, New Age and Occult are three terms that have been used in association with Metaphysics. Theosophy means “Divine Wisdom”, and is the study of science and God. It is also the essence of all the world’s spiritual teachings. The term “New Age” is not so new anymore but was coined in the mid seventies to convey the mass change of
consciousness that is occurring on our planet (more info on that in future issues). “Occult’s” actual definition is the “science of things hidden.” It was not known to the common person but was there for the true seekers of life’s mysteries, the supernatural. It was only Christianity and modern Western society that led people to believe that it had to do with Satanism and/or black magic – not true! It is simply the study of things hidden, the science and spirituality of life.
UNIVERSAL LAWS Just as the laws of physics govern our physical world, the universe is governed by universal laws and is an essential foundation of Metaphysics. The universe is perfectly balanced by these natural laws, which are regulatory vibrations to maintain order. These laws reign over the entire universe and our lives on the mental and psychological levels. When we become aware of the universal laws we can use them to improve our lives and accelerate our spiritual growth. The universal laws are the laws God made when he created the universe.
THE PRIMARY UNIVERSAL LAWS The Law of One – There is only one God. We are one with God and everything else. We are all connected. The energies of God keep the universe in motion. The Law of Mind – There is a universal intelligence that is shared by all and called the subconscious mind or the universal subconscious mind. It is the mind of God and this is where all of our prayers are heard. The Law of Unconditional Love – One of the most important laws – unconditional love for all beings and all things. It means acceptance of others without judgment or expectations.
The Law of Duality – Everything has both positive and negative energy within it (yinyang, feminine-masculine). The Law of Karma – This is the law of cause and effect that states for every action (thought, word or deed) there is an equal and opposite reaction. Karma is a continuous cycle of energy and what you put out will come back to you. The Law of Reincarnation - This law works with the Law of Karma and gives us the tool to free ourselves of karma. The soul is reborn into a physical body for the purpose of gaining knowledge and understanding and to resolve negative emotions, patterns and actions we incurred in previous lifetimes. Through repeated incarnations (lifetimes) we learn “karmic lessons” and reap the rewards of lessons that we previously learned in order to grow spiritually and evolve back to our souls awareness and perfection. The Law of Attraction – Through our conscious and subconscious thoughts we attract and or repel people and situations. Our mental attitude is the key to controlling this law. If you want peace and love in your life, you must become peaceful and loving. The Law of Free Will – This law gives each soul the freedom to make choices. It gives us the opportunity to follow a spiritual path, or not follow a path, to be happy, or to not be happy. We can choose how to respond to life’s lessons and grow from our choices. The Law of Tenfold Return – This law states that what you give out you will receive ten times over. Even if you ignore or are unaware of the Universal Laws, they will function in your life anyway. It is to your benefit to become aware, understand and use these laws to

improve your life. I have been spiritual my entire life. I was raised Catholic and later became a BornAgain Christian. However, at a early age I had so many questions and disagreements with the tenets of the church, that I actually got thrown out of Sunday school at the age of seven because I asked a question the nun couldn’t answer. My question – “Why is it that in order for me to receive communion I have to go to confession and confess my sins to the priest, while my girlfriend who was Lutheran only had to confess her sins to God? Why do I have to go through the middleman?” I guess calling the priest the “middleman” had something to do with getting pulled out of class and sent home with a note. Anyway, I continued questioning the church’s teachings all through my life until I discovered Metaphysics and then everything began making sense. I have been studying and teaching Metaphysics for the past twenty-five years. While all my beliefs encompass a metaphysical understanding, I believe in the same God as a non-Christian as I did when I was a Christian. My perception of God did not change because my spiritual beliefs and understandings have changed. The purpose of studying Metaphysics like following any other religion or spiritual practice is to grow and evolve spiritually. When we understand and live by the laws of the universe through the process of daily living, we find ourselves becoming our soul’s perfection. Note: Metaphysics is an extensive subject and this information is the bare basics and meant to be simply an introduction. If you’re new to Metaphysics you probably have many questions spinning around in your head. Look for future articles where I will go more in depth into this fascinating study.
METAPHYSICS AND THE HOLISTIC MOVEMENT Over the years I have observed that people interested in Metaphysics are also interested in alternative therapies. Why does there seem to be a relationship between the two? My personal opinion is one is the extension of the other. Both recognize the interaction of “Body, Mind & Spirit”. Metaphysics teaches, “like attracts like”. Negative thoughts create illness. If your thoughts are always negative you will manifest illness. In many Eastern cultures, there is no division between religion and medicine, and a person’s spirituality is always considered when treating a patient. In Holistic medicine, like metaphysics, selfresponsibility is stressed. All areas of our lives reflect our level of health and level of consciousness. It is all interrelated.
