HENRIETA HORVÁTHOVÁ

I believe in architecture because architecture is a part of every single life. It creates spaces we live in, it can influence development, behavior and the quality of life and its also just a beauty which I can adore. I am a graduating student from the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, where I have dedicated six years of my life to studying architecture and civil engineering. During my studies, I also worked in the studio of FVA architects. I strive to surround myself with inspiring people in the field.

I want to create, I want to educate, I want to cultivate, and do everything I can to improve lives and the world itself through the architecture.

DIPLOMA THESIS, STONE SQUARE

Completing the Urbanistic Torso in the Center of the Capital of Slovakia

„IT‘S NOT ABOUT THE CARS IN THE CITY, IT‘S ABOUT THE PEOPLE IN THE CITY“

Work: academic

Location: Bratislava, Slovakia

Key words: torso, urban, the heart of Bratislava

Stone Square, due to its prominent location and historical context, has always been considered the social center of Bratislava. However, this significance subjected it to many violent changes, leading to unsystematic development of the urban space. The result of these changes is a solitary object placed without regard for its surroundings, accompanied by fragmented remnants of the original buildings. On the edge of the historic center of Bratislava, there is an urban ring, originally a water moat, intended to connect the entire core with a pedestrian path. The vision for this route is to link the city center with the historic center via a pedestrian path. In the urban-architectural design, I address how to heal the wound in the heart of Bratislava, how to deal with a complex urban entity, and how to bring people into the city center.

CONCEPT:

Do not tear down! Build. Not only the addition of the original historical footprint, but the proper densification of the city center.

„WORK WITH CONTEXT“
„DIVERT THE FREQUENTED ROAD. “
„FOR PEOPLE“
„THE NEW STRUCTURES DEFINE THE PUBLIC SPACES.“

EXIST:

The result of the drastic changes that have occurred in this area is a solitary structure placed out of context, along with remnants of buildings from the 20th century. A busy traffic artery runs through the area, dividing the largest squares. The square features remnants of buildings with gable walls covered in advertisement.

IDEA:

The proposal complements the urban torso; the new structure connects with the existing building, further densifying and completing the decaying part of the city center. I propose interrupting the city road to connect the city centers with a pedestrian path. The new structures in the proposal define new public spaces and squares. The city becomes lively, ready for people.

THE SLOVAK GOVERNMENT OFFICE

Work: academic

Location: Bratislava, Slovakia

Key words: institution, administration

The main aspect of the proposal was a clearly established hierarchy of the given territory. We can observe a significant hierarchy of objects in several historical examples. The proposed object is subdued but nevertheless has a solid expression of a state institution. The concept of the building is a reflection of an economic/service building that performs administrative/ service work. The building consists of four above-ground and three underground floors. The last two upper floors consist of a skeleton structure and a light outer shell, which is supposed to disappear in the reflection of the greenery of Lipai‘s garden. The proposed building does not disturb the urbanism of the surrounding area, it follows the cornices of the nearby Archbishop‘s Palace in height. The structural solution consists of a skeleton structure, a reinforced concrete wall and a light outer shell.

CONCEPT:

Do not tear down! Build. Not only the addition of the original historical footprint, but the proper densification of the city center.

SPORTS AND RECREATION CENTER

Work: cooperation, FVA studio

Location: Bratislava, Slovakia

Key words: sport and recreatio, Bratislava

In the urban-architectural competition for The new swimming pool, reconstruction of the hockey stadium, and construction of non-commercial accommodation for athletes, we propose three distinct and visually recognizable above-ground structures with minimalist forms: the reconstruction of the Vladimír Dzurilla Stadium, training halls with spaces for curling, a hotel, a restaurant, a congress center, and a separate swimming pool

RECONSTRUCTION APARTMENT

INTERIOR

Work: personal

Location: Bratislava, Slovakia

Key words: reconstruction, interior

The young owner of the apartment wanted light and colors in her new home. The renovated apartment is located in a panel building from the 1970s. Since most of the walls are load-bearing panels that cannot be altered, the layout of the apartment remained largely unchanged. We utilized an existing passage through the bathroom to bring more light into the entrance hallway. First, we had to remove the old parts of the apartment to apply new layers. We filled the passages with glass blocks, which do not allow shapes to pass through but let in the necessary light.

CONCEPT:

The core concept of the apartment‘s interior is white with colorful fragments in the furniture and accessories. The budget for the renovation was small, so we aimed to make the most of the apartment‘s inherent features.

Location: Piešťany, Slovakia

Key words: material clay, sauna, initipi

The PRAKS architectural workshop focuses on the tangible level of architecture, which is supported by thematic lectures. The goal is to acquaint the participants, especially students, with the practical side of architecture, deepening their relationship to the realization phase of the work by actively working on the work, and raising awareness of environmentally friendly creation. I love imperfections with joy, we learn from mistakes. I enjoy the experiment and highlight its value. We used only environmentally friendly materials and processes. We think in the spirit of minimizing the new, reusing the existing and recycling the seemingly unnecessary.
