Fusing razor sharp lyrics with brain rattling beats and huge hooks, Modern Medicine describe their music as “progressive electronic vocal indie hop�. The guys have played alongside many established acts such as Tinchy Stryder, N-dubz and Tim Westwood to name but a few.
In 2011 they reached the grand final of Live & Unsigned and finished in the top 10 of over 10,000 entrants. With the aid of turntables, sequencers, talkboxes, and a whole host of other music making implements, Modern Medicine transcend not just one genre but the very idea of pigeonhole-ing music at all.
BOBBY ESMOND As an MC, Bobby Esmond is known for his suave flow and sophisticated lyrics. He is also a trained musician and producer and has made tracks with many artists ranging from MC’s such as UK favourite Dr Syntax to members of chart busting girl group The Pipettes. He is also an accomplished scratch DJ and has held several residencies in cities across the UK.
Pete Cannon Pete Cannon is fast becoming one of the hottest producers in the UK. Having produced tracks with artists such as Foreign Beggars, G-Unit and Sway his stock is most definitely on the rise. Pete’s track with New York artist Nutzo was given it’s first airtime by the legendary DJ Premier. Whilst being the main man behind the boards for Modern Medicine, his vocals are also responsible for the plush melodies which can be heard on many of their songs. As far as the rapping goes, Pete’s style is best described as somewhere between hilarious and downright bizarre.
DYLAN ,DEADLINE, REES Dylan ‘Deadline’ Rees has performed and released under his solo moniker for several years establishing himself on the independent UK hip hop circuit. Deadline is known for his ability to switch between battle raps and witty social commentary seamlessly. Upon release his video ‘Grade A loser’ received airplay on both Channel AKA and MTV Base. More recently he has collaborated with several established artists such as Mack Lethal, Serocee and Basher from Andy C’s RAM Records.
SIMON‘,SPLICE, MARTINs Splice is a promising young musician, who switched from touring with several metal bands to producing DnB & dubstep and playing the synth for Modern Medicine with Kraftwerk-like precision. Having studied Music Production and Performance, he has become one of the UK’s hottest young producer/DJs, playing major Drum n Bass events in and around Manchester as well as a slot on and his productions have seen him signing his first release to Multi Function Records with ‘The Rush EP’. He brings huge synths and the occasional beat to the Modern Medicine table.
Henry ,hank zappa, roberts Classically trained, and leading orchestras by the age of 16, Henry enhances Modern Medicine’s musicality, and lends tracks extra depth both on stage and in the studio with layered violin loops. Playing mainly electric violin and synth, Henry also mucks in with occasional basslines, vocals and sandals.
Add to the mix a whole host of eccentricities including distribution of the highly potent homemade brew ‘Modern Medicine,’ and you’ll find the live show is quite something to behold. With the diverse range of characters who make up the group, Modern Medicine have undoubtedly created a brand of music which is unashamedly unique both in its musicality and its delivery.
In 2009 the guys were part of a collaborative project called ‘Tactical Thinking.’ This project culminated in the release of an album, ‘Too Broke To Go Solo’. The album was well received in several countries, gathering rave reviews in publications such as Q magazine. The lead single from the album, written by Modern Medicine, ‘Superstars’ was also single of the month in DJ Mag.
