GCET (MBA/MCA) Preparation: The Balancing Act “How should I prepare for GCET along with the preparations of the Final year exams?”, “What is more important Maths or English?”, “How relevant is GK in GCET preparations? This article is intended to remove all these apprehensions regarding GCET preparations. GCET preparation Vs Final Year exams It is very important to strike a balance between the Final examinations' preparation and the GCET preparation. This can be achieved by working for around 15 hours a day with maximum efficiency. It is also advisable for the Final Year students to work diligently and make the most of the month of March, when they are not encumbered with the Academic work. This is one of the most crucial aspects of the GCET preparations as it fills an individual with a sense of accomplishment & confidence. With the university exams due in April, the GCET preparation will take a backseat in April and most of the focus and energies get diverted to put up a good show in the final year exams. When one resumes the preparations once the university exams get over, he/she would have already done a fair amount of preparation. Thus, May and June will see him deliver efficaciously as his concepts & fundamentals are already in place. Balancing all the Sections of Aptitude Test Most of the students do not divide proper time to different sections of aptitude test, viz. Quantitative Aptitude (Maths), Verbal Ability (English), G.K., Analytical and Logical Reasoning and end up spending more time in one of the sections and score poorly overall. Ideally the student should identify the weightage of each sections and subsections and allocate the time keeping his strengths in mind. The time allocated to a section may vary from a student's individual strengths in particular sections and the weightage of the sections in the GCET. Maths Vs English Generally students work hard in Maths and ignore English. This results in confusion on the day of exam as far as time allocation is concerned. To avoid getting in such a situation, one should invest sufficient time in improving, strengthening one’s vocabulary and reading skills from the beginning. Having good command in Vocabulary and Grammar will help one score more marks in less time. Not to forget Verbal reasoning which proves to be high scoring area if one is prepared thoroughly. GK – the deciding factor Questions on General knowledge approximately constitute 20% of the total questions in GCET MBA, which definitely should not be taken for granted. A good understanding of the economy, current affairs and who’s who of business world coupled with knowledge on history & sports will help deliver a high score. This can help you win the day even if other questions are tough. In GCETMCA, questions on GK are not asked and the weightage of reasoning and quant questions increases accordingly. Reasoning – make the most of it
Reasoning section comprises Analytical, Logical, Verbal and Nonverbal Reasoning. Together it contributes approximately 30% of the total questions. For students aspiring to take GCETMCA, reasoning section would be even more significant as it constitutes as much as 40% of the total questions.
