5 PR Tips for Gaining Media Attention Positive media attention can give a business a massive boost. These tips could help you get ahead of the competition.

1. Build Relationships

Try to cultivate relationships with journalists and bloggers who have a genuine interest in your industry. Don’t just expect them to be interested in what you’re offering. Take the time to get to know them and find out what would actually be useful to them.

2. Distribute Useful Assets

Don’t approach journalists or bloggers with boring run of the mill information they are unlikely to care about. You’ll do much better if you only go to them with interesting newsworthy content or assets (photos, videos etc.) Journalists and bloggers also love exclusives… so offer them exclusivity.

3. Be organised and Efficient

When carrying out your PR activities make sure you are organised and efficient. You should have a media contacts list which you work through methodically. Also make sure to keep track of the responses you receive. A good communication system is invaluable when carrying out PR activities.

4. Do Not Spam

If you start spamming journalists and bloggers your emails will only find their way to junk mail folders. Every contact you make should be personalised. Make sure to spell the person’s name correctly and think about how you can make your message appealing to that individual.

5. Do Something Cool or Interesting

The best way to get attention is to do something deserving of it. Go the extra mile and try to be really creative when planning PR activities; if you just do the same as everyone else you’ll never stand out. Being original and different isn’t easy. It’ll take time and hard work, but the results can be spectacular.
