In partnership with www.alphaomegauk.co.uk ALPHA OMEGA DENTAL SOCIETY (LONDON) AND CHARITABLE TRUST Lecture Programme 2022-2023 DENTAL DISCOVERY: Current trends in dentistry

In this year’s program, I have tried to mix lectures that focus on cutting edge techniques with those that address broader topics that are relevant to us all. On the one hand, we have presentations on full digital workflows and injection moulding techniques and on the other, managing our older patients and our own mental health. Furthermore, this year will be the first time that we mix in person meetings with online meetings. Going online enables us to benefit from international speakers whilst allowing us to stay connected to our members from outside London.

Student Liaison Ella Levene

Let’s all celebrate dental discovery…. together.

You can also follow us:Twitter: Facebook:Instagram:alpha_omega_london@AOLondonAlphaOmegaDentalUK

The evolution of online presentations has enabled new exciting possibilities for us. Dr Ricardo Mitrani will join us from Mexico to present about management of the terminal dentition. He is a high profile educator at the Spear Institute as well as running a successful private practice.

Dr Carlo Poggio has an established reputation across Europe and USA and he will join us from Italy and show us how we can provide aesthetic rehabilitation using purely digital Changingtechniques.tacktowards

I’d like to thank the whole Alpha Omega committee for their efforts in helping me create the new program and ensuring this year will be a success. A special thank you to past chairman Richard Pins, who has been a constant source of advice and support and to the scientific committee for their input into developing the new program. I’d also like to thank our new hosts “The Central” and their team for the use of their facilities.

I would like to thank all of our sponsors and in particular Henry Schein who have provided so much support for Alpha Omega and their special discounts to our members. Thank you also for the continued donations to the AO Charitable Trust that continues to deliver so many impactful projects.

Chairman’s welcome:

DR Alon Preiskel

1. Outline the extent of burnout and stress related impact on wellbeing amongst members of the dental team

For over a decade, the term “Terminal Dentition”, has unquestionably gained a lot of traction in the dental community, and it implies that there is a need to remove a patient’s remaining dentition. But how do we reach such stage or conclusion? Does it mean the same to everybody? The reality is that the term Terminal Dentition is a “dentist made term”. Of the same token, until this day, there seems to be confusion among dental practitioners as to what is the ideal prosthetic solution for these patients, therefore this presentation will discuss a linear algorithm that allows the treating team to decide when to choose to give up hope on the remaining dentition as well as a classification that will help decide among the different restorative designs available.

By the end of the session attendees should be able to:

3. Describe techniques for alleviating work related stress in dental settings

The practice of dentistry is challenging, and there is a body of evidence demonstrating high levels of stress related burnout and impact on wellbeing amongst dental practitioners. In this talk I will explore the evidence of the extent of impact on well bring among the dental team, as well as the common sources of stress. I will outline evidence based approaches to managing the wellbeing of the dental team.

Over the past 10 years, the speed of evolution of prosthetic digitisation has accelerated significantly. The speech will focus on the rationale and the techniques available to perform periodontal surgery. In particular a focus on the regenerative techniques with the objective of change the prognosis of the teeth will be the main topic. Periodontal regeneration and reconstruction is a well renown and predictable surgical technique in the periodontal armamentarium. The techniques that are available nowadays have been increasing the prognosis of severely compromised teeth and improve tooth survival. Yet the predictability and the indications or periodontal regenerative surgery are mainly focusing on intrabony defects. Intrabony defects are supportive defects providing a positive environment for blood clot stability. Nevertheless, intrabony defects constitute the minority of the periodontal bony defects as horizontal suprabony defects, dehiscence, endo-periapical and furcation defects are the ones that are often frequent and draw the attention of the clinicians.
