Hepatitis Health Promotion Project Officer (contract)
Employment status:
This is a contract position for up to 24 hours per week for a period of 3 months (12 weeks).
Accountability:
Accountable to the Programs and Operations Manager for the delivery of program objectives.
Remuneration:
Salary will be according to qualifications and experience, in line with the Hepatitis Victoria Enterprise Agreement 2010. Access to the benefits of salary packaging is available.
Location:
The position is based at Hepatitis Victoria, Suite 5, 200 Sydney Rd, Brunswick, 3056.
2. ORGANISATIONAL ENVIRONMENT Hepatitis Victoria is the peak not-for-profit community-based organisation working across the state for people affected by, or at risk of, viral hepatitis. It is governed by an independent Board of Directors with the Chief Executive Officer and staff performing the day to day duties. Hepatitis Victoria is funded primarily by the Victorian Department of Health Hepatitis Victoria works to: • Provide leadership and coordination for the Victorian community response to viral hepatitis; • Build a strong and sustainable organisation that works effectively across all activities and is positioned to have greatest impact; • Raise community awareness and prevent the transmission of viral hepatitis; • Increase access to quality viral hepatitis information, care, treatment and support. POSITION CONTEXT Hepatitis Victoria receives funding from the Victorian Department of Health to deliver a range hepatitis education and early intervention programs for key priority groups within the Victorian community. The programs aim to reduce the risk of hepatitis, as well as increasing awareness of and support for people with viral hepatitis. Hepatitis Victoria currently requires an additional health promotions project officer on a short term basis, in order to meet the commitments of its health promotion programs and activities. Subject to the availability of further funding, the position may be ongoing. 5. KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS 5.1
Health promotion, education and training
•
In conjunction with other Hepatitis Victoria HealthPromotion educators, effectively plan and deliver health promotion activities that will increase awraenes about viral hepatitis amongst priority populations
•
In conjunction with other Hepatitis Victoria Health Promotion educators, effectively plan, conduct and evaluate education/information sessions for people from priority populations, including within Victorian prisons, with a focus on minimising transmission of viral hepatitis and increasing support for those affected by viral hepatitis
•
In conjunction with other Hepatitis Victoria Health Promotion educators, provide workforce development training around viral hepatitis to people who work with the priority population groups, including prison officers.

5.2
Team work
•
Report regularly to the Programs Manager on progress of activities and programs and develop written progress reports for the organisation and project funders as required
•
Contribute to Hepatitis Victoria publications
•
Contribute to Hepatitis Victoria initiatives such as World Hepatitis Day and Love Your Liver lunches
•
Attend and participate in regular general and specialist staff meetings
•
Act to promote a friendly climate, good morale and co-operation within the Hepatitis Victoria team
•
Take actions, make decisions, and shape priorities (individual, group or team) to reflect the organisation’s vision and values, and abide by Hepatitis Victoria’s operational policies
•
Undertake other duties as agreed.

General
•
Abide by Hepatitis Victoria’s policies and procedures

Carry out general administrative tasks in support of the role
•
At all times maintain confidentiality of information about service users, members, staff, volunteers and other personnel

Promote Hepatitis Victoria’s services to outside agencies and individuals.
6. KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Please note: all applications must specifically address the key selection criteria. Essential •
Demonstrated understanding of the principles of adult education and group facilitation
•
Highly developed communication skills, including the ability to develop quality documentation, supporting literature, guidelines, written reports and correspondence in a clear and concise manner Proven ability to establish and build good stakeholder relationships and to network with individuals from other organisations or groups
• •
Proven ability to identify and solve problems and where applicable provide relevant recommendations
•
Demonstrated proficiency and experience using the Microsoft Office suite of applications (eg Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook), combined with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
•
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as within a team, working collaboratively to achieve goals
•
A capacity to obtain security clearance to access both public and private prison systems in Victoria
•
The capacity to travel when required to rural areas and to stay overnight if necessary
•
A current driver’s license valid for the State of Victoria. It is a condition of

employment that a driver’s license remains current during employment. Highly desirable •
A relevant tertiary qualification in health, health promotion, community development or related disciplines
•
An understanding and /or experience in the range of issues closely associated with viral hepatitis, such as injecting drug use, harm reduction, custodial settings etc
•
At least two years experience in health education, health promotion, community development or related fields
•
Ability to analyse and contribute to research and policy development
Desirable •
Appreciation of issues associated with custodial settings, including the associated legal frameworks in Victoria.

A Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment (TAE40110 or equivalent).
