I have heard so much about Advance Directives and have thought that when my sister and I are with my parents this holiday season we should dicuss this with them. Could you give some pointers on the necessity of these documents?

The holiday season is a great time to take a few moments and discuss with your loved ones your wishes and directions in addition to filling out these papers. This proactive act may someday become a great gift to your loved ones in reducing the stress of guessing what your directions would have been.
