Don t make me go to the kitchen. That s the running joke any time we experience less than stellar service while dining out. It stems from an evening out with a group of friends many years back that was only memorable because of how bad the service was. OF path MIDCENTRAL ILLINOIS How bad was it? Kevin Kast retiring from St. Mary’s DECATUR St. Mary’s Hospital President and CEO Kevin F. Kast has announced he will be retiring this month. Kast has been with the hospital since 2006 and has guided it through it’s $40- million revi talization process to update the emergency department, lobby, clinical laboratory and car diovascular catherization lab. It has truly been an honor to have served our patients and the residents of -Macon Coun ty, Kast said in a news release. Board selects Meyer as city librarian DECATUR The Decatur Public Library Board of Trustees voted unanimously last month to hire a new city librarian with strong ties to Central Illinois. Rick Meyer, 48, is currently director of the Robey Memorial Library in Waukon, Iowa. He will earn an $85,000 salary in the - new posi tion, which he is expected to start in April. Meyer is a native of Witt who worked for a decade for Mental Health Centers of Central Illinois in Springfield. He received a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Cham paign, where he also worked as a library cata loguer. Based on his visit, Meyer said the library’s strengths include the enthusiasm of the staff and management, volunteers and interested community members. He replaces Lee Ann Fisher who left the position in August.

DECATUR After working as an office manager for about 20 years, Mari Curry knows the importance of making a good first impression and making it last. One would not think to describe Curry as shy, especially since she would help meet the needs of countless clients and staff members at DCC Marketing with ease. But she found it to be an attribute that gave her a - unique per spective for the position. I m not a really outgoing person; I could walk into a room where I don t know anybody and feel sort of backward, she said. People want to open up, and it is important to make them comfortable and let them know that they are important and not just another person walking through the door.
