The Herald & Review’s Newspapers In Education program gets students acquainted with newspaper reading. Studies have shown newspapers in the classroom help increase test scores and encourage community involvement.

This innovative program provided more than 300,000 newspapers to 163 teachers and several thousand students in Central Illinois classrooms during the 2010-2011 school year. The newspaper is the most up-to-date textbook available. A new “textbook” is printed each and every day. Besides current events, the Herald & Review helps students learn a variety of subjects, from math to science to geography. And because it’s a different kind of textbook, it makes learning fun. Proceeds from our VIP Very Important Pets contest are used to support this very worthwhile program. So while you are helping make a pet (or pet owner’s) dream come true, know that you are also helping local students. For more information or to become a sponsor, contact our NIE department at 421-7903 or email at brad.maynard@lee.net
