Lady Eagles rout Barton to win 2-A district tournament

The Hazen Police Department confiscated 111 pounds of marijuana since the first of this year. Police Chief Bradley Taylor said that some of the drugs were taken from stops on Interstate 40 and some were taken in town. On January 7, Officer
Dillion Cook discovered some of the drugs when making a routine traffic stop at the intersection of Crowley St. and North Hazen Ave. The driver of the car, Kenneth Bryce Boyd of Carlisle, told Officer Cook that he was on parole and claimed ownership of several pounds of marijuana. Kessler Holt, a passenger in the car, had a pipe in her possession and a clear tube with white residue inside it.
Officer Colton Felts stopped a car on Interstate 40 on January 18 after observing erratic driving by the driver, Jason Reese, of Oklahoma. After a K9 unit was called to assist, a search of the vehicle was undertaken, and a bag containing twenty sealed packages of marijuana plus two boxes containing eight sealed bags of marijuana were found. Reese was transported to the Prairie County Detention Center. Officer Felts made another stop on I-40 on January 13 and found two duffle bags full of marijuana in the trunk of a car belonging to Christopher Lewis of Illinois. The drugs were confiscated, and Lewis was taken to the Prairie County Detention Center.
The Des Arc Lady Eagles beat Barton 8454 on Saturday night to win the 2A-6 district tournament at Bison Arena in Carlisle. Des Arc is now 15-4 on the season and will play Bay in the first round of the regional tournament at Buffalo Island Central on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
In the win over Barton, Des Arc led 32-11 after one quarter and 51-32 at halftime.
Gabi Berry led the Lady Eagles with 34 points. Shyanne Bell had 14. Makenzie Williams had 11. Harleigh Holloway had eight. Alaina Fields scored six. Isabella Flanagan had four. Kaylee McDonald had three. Rachel Reidhar and Jyllian Smith had two points each.
Des Arc advanced to the championship game with a 77-52 win over Carlisle in the semifinals. Des Arc led 24-8 after one quarter and 41-24 at halftime.
Berry led Des Arc with 24 points. Bell had 20.
Flanagan had 10. Fields scored seven. McDonald had six. Holloway had five. Calleigh Skarda had three. Williams added two. Addison Bartley led the Lady Bison with 18 points. Laken Golden scored 12. Paige Chadwick had 10. Bailey Jo Dawson had seven. Mariah Phillips scored five. Carlisle will also play in the regional tournament for the 12th consecutive season on Wednesday when the Lady Bison play Riverside at 4 p.m.
