'LADDER' Yellow River Geological Culture Museum Design Personal academic work | 2009 Graduate design Loction: Ji Xian, ShangXi, China Tutor: Prof. Bai Yin

Formation history of the Yellow River

320 million years to 300 million years ago, the Yellow River area planation surface developed below 1,000 meters above sea level.

240 million years ago, the disintegration of planation surface, altitude plateau rising about 2000 meters.

Site analysis Base is located in the foothills, elevation within the building there are significant differences by analysis of the base elevation, to start the overall planning and design.

160 million years ago, tectonic upheaval period, continue to rise above sea level

sing the site height to layout the three ladders. At the same time, determining the external and internal features to perform the museum in the building design. According to the different characteristics of each ladder and the transition between the characteristics of ladder, I create a show of the construction that people can feel inherent of each ladder. Finally, the introduction of the external shape of the imprint of the Yellow River runs through the building to reflect the particular site in the natural sense.

In the flowing process of the Yellow River, the three ladder of the transition point reflects the characteristics of the Yellow River. The design of the transition point should reflect the characteristics.

[Internal flow lines]

A

clear line of flow is an important aspect of the museum design. In this project, I consider this problem from the early stages of planning that would make sure all of flows can seperate. At least, as is shown in the figure, the main flow line completely isolated.

I

n this semi-enclosed space for landscape design, I still use a fret as the main design element to create a strong cultural atmosphere and a full of fun space. Providing a leisure and chatting place for the office. Meanwhile, I consider the traditional Chinese feng shui theory into the design. Of course, the pleasant atmosphere of scale garden design has always been the core.

?How to make office integration. Body mass scrutiny

I

n the office building, in order to form an integrated whole, we first carried out on the building's Shape scrutiny, as the sculpture-like Shape sculpture, making it seamless. We then conducted a detail of its design, the texture as a theme, into the traditional Chinese elements, highlighting the building's signature. Formed body mass

I

n the real estate development, how to create economic benefits is an important prerequisite for the developer. Architectural design should meet customer and market needs. How to design a project to meet customer needs as much as possible? Before the design started, we carried out the entire city carpet-sample survey. We need to extract the design conditions.

Radius of 1 km, choosing the highend residential to access

[Overall planning]

I

n the overall planning, the project not only need to meet the economic interests of developers, but it also need to meet design specifications. Meanwhile, as an architect, it is the fundamental responsibility to meet various needs of users and the aesthtic perspective.

Planning process After dozens of discussions on the initial program planning to determine the direction, we then deepen the design to meet the sunshine and variety of design specifications, and finally to determine the final plan.

Step1. Direction exploring

Step2. Project determining

[Unit design]

I

n order to meet the housing needs of different customers, our units in the project design with variety of products, including small size, big house, duplex units and large luxury apartment. At the same time, we need to meet the different units of different clients in-depth study of design, such as A type to meet the needs of the middle mainly three-bedroom in the economy to achieve, B type of duplex units to meet the young people interesting and varied mainly special.

[Facade design]

W

hen it comes to the facade of the program design, developers and we reached a consensus - to create a reflection of the atmosphere of the modern Chinese residential area. Therefore, in the design, we introduced a lot of detail to reflect the Chinese elements, such as brackets, Chinese texture, profile roof. In materials, mainly red brick with strong Chinese means to do the main material, supplemented by color contrast warm and comfortable stone image of high quality real estate.
