COURSE
Last week the large oak tree behind the 5th green was struck by lightning during a short but very intense thunderstorm. For me it was a very stark reminder of the power of mother nature. It has also served as a reminder to the rest of my staff that they need to seek shelter when there is thunder and lightning in the area.
I would also like to remind all of you what you should be doing if you are out on the golf course when inclement weather hits. The club has a lightning horn that will sound if there is lightning present within a 10 mile radius of the club. If you hear the horn please seek shelter immediately. Once the threat has passed the horn will sound again and you are free to resume outdoor activities. Since 2006 there have been 12 people killed on golf courses due to lightning, please stay safe this summer and seek shelter when the horn sounds.
