Golf Report

Hello Port Royal Golfers, For those of you I have not met, my name is Bill Hazel, and I was recently appointed Golf Chairman for 2022. My wife Joan and I moved to Hilton Head and joined the Port Royal Club two years ago - and it has been a great experience! Prior to moving here, we were members of a private club in Pennsylvania for many years. The first thing I would like to do is to thank Rick D’Arienzo for all his efforts as Golf Chair over the last two years. He certainly set the bar high. The goal of the Golf Chair will not change – to help ensure the most enjoyable golfing experience possible for ALL golfing members. I look forward to working with Nigel Jones (men’s golf), Tammie Blank (women’s golf) and the Heritage team to set up a calendar of events that will attract a large majority of our members. Besides the events, we will work together through various working groups to address topics such as course conditions, handicaps/rules, etc., as well as planning our signature tournaments (Member Guest and The President’s Cup). Regarding conditions, I want to reiterate what Rick wrote about in January 2021. As we work with Heritage to optimize playing conditions, we can do our part. Specifically with respect to carts, sharing carts when feasible and strictly adhering to rules regarding where carts can and cannot go will help maintain and in some cases improve course conditions. Please don’t hesitate to let Nigel, Tammie or I know of any suggestion or complaints you may have – as well as things that you like and want to see continued.
