Viktor Alois Mauracher 10/9/1951 – 12/9/2009 Viktor Alois Mauracher, also known as Wicki, Wick, Wickles, Punchy, Vick and Wicktor was born on Oct. 9, 1951 to Joanne and Ali Mauracher at Cottage Hospital. He went suddenly and in his sleep on Dec. 9, 2009. Wicki attended grade schools in Carpinteria, Crane School in Montecito and Dunn School in Los Olivos. He was an avid reader and won reading awards at Crane. He did well at Dunn and received letters in sports. He was a great penalty kicker in soccer and a great pitcher for their baseball team with a mean fastball. His career was an example of how diverse, intelligent and interested Wicki was. In his teens, he went to work for the law firm of Griffith and Thornburgh as their office boy. He was organized and thorough in his duties, and the secretaries loved him. Later he drove the hoist at the dry dock for Rod White at the Harbor. He worked for Tidewater Marine driving their service boats for the local oil wells and then transferred to Louisiana where he worked for several years. He was also employed by Coremark International as their buyer from 1985 to 1990. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1974 and received an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Sergeant in 1980. While he was stationed in Germany he was a Member of the Border Legion of 2D Armored Cavalry 2D Squadron in 1976 and 1977. He has been running the family avocado ranch in Carpinteria for the last 14 years. While Wicki was making these different career choices, he was also very busy in his personal life. He was a movie
star! In the late 1980s he portrayed Buck Hombre in three movies: “Way Out West,” “More of the Same” and “High Ridge Drifter” of the Buck Hombre Cadillac Western Series. These movies were filmed at the Brown’s ranch and the Cota place with Johnny Brown as director and Tony Brown as Wicki’s arch rival. Wicki was an avid hunter, going deer hunting each year with his good friends in the Sierras and also as a child at the Hollister Ranch with his father. He loved the camaraderie and all that the trips involved. He kept the poker and card games lively and was a great dominos player. In the late 1980s, Wicki and friends were in the Fiesta Parade six years running. He was part of the Jack Powers Gang, riding in full western garb and tossing coins to the crowds. Each year 30 to 40 friends would attend “Wick’s Shoot.” There was a barbecue, skeet shooting and an ugly trophy to be won. Everyone looked forward to it. Wicki had a wonderful dry sense of humor and was very entertaining. He was very sentimental and cared deeply for the ones he loved. He will be sorely missed by his family and many dear friends. Wicki is predeceased by his sisters Cathie Vedder and Heidi Mauracher and his parents Joanne and Ali Mauracher. He is survived by his brother Mark Vedder, Sr., his sister Mimi Putnam, nieces Emily Vedder and Erika Hollister and nephew Mark Vedder Jr. There will be a memorial service at the Santa Barbara Cemetery by the Bird Refuge on Friday, Dec. 18 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
